Is time travel possible?

Yeah that's some of the worst logic I've ever heard in my entire life. Just because something has not been invented yet does not make it an impossibility. If you actually read up on the subject you'd know that backwards time travel would only be possible up to the point that the time machine was made.

Forward time travel is already present, we're moving forward in time at this moment. Semantics aside, speeding up the rate at which we move through time is theoretically possible through near light speed travel. The faster you move, the slower time moves around you. For example, you could travel at the speed of light and travel the observable universe in about 50 years. Or at least that's what it would feel like to you and that's roughly how much you would age. It's called time dilation (sp). This has already been observed in space shuttle launches today. Obviously to a much smaller degree, but the clocks on the shuttles would actually move a little slower than the clocks here on Earth that were in a static position.

Also, in regards to all the paradoxes surrounding backwards time travel, the answer to that is also simple. Each time you go backwards in time and change something, you enter an alternate reality/universe. Anything you do in this new universe has no effect on the universe you came from, and therefore there are no paradoxes.

It's just not realisthic at all if you think about it.

 

I don't know much about time travel but I doubt it's possible, just a theory to entertain our minds and ponder about. When you think about it, if someone was to travel into the past would it change the future? Or would they be in a different dimension? But what happens when they return to the present, are they in the same dimension they traveled backwards in time to, or are they in the dimension they previously left? Time travel seems too complex for anyone to be able to comprehend.

Edit- i was watching tv tho, and scientist is trying to do it with spinner lasers, and his theory was pretty nice, he said" I think time travel is possible but we would not be able to go back in time Prior the the machine being created, as the machine would not have been made yet, it would not be possible for it to be in the past further prior to it's creation."


So the day a time traveling machine is created, is the day we'll know

 

Time travel to the future is possible and has actually been done in small scales. Time traveling to the past is much more complicated and probably not possible.

The faster you're moving the slower time passes. If you were traveling close to the speed of light for one year and you come back to Earth, you would only age 1 year as opposed to every one else on Earth would have aged around 20 years. Astronauts actually experience this in a small scale when they travel to space.

 

Im surprised no one has referenced Stephan Hawkins Documentarys yet. He goes into great detail explaining that if we travelled around the earth at the speed of light for what feels like one hour, it will be (insert random long amount of time here) in the future, and although this is not traveling backwards thro time, it would allow use to 'travel' to the future.

He also said something about how time is slowed when we are closer to things of greater mass. I cannot remember his direct examples and don't want to mis qoute him. He was using black holes and the pyramids as examples of 'slowing time'.

 

This is of course assuming that we have some way of going faster than the speed of light; which might I say is impossible.

I don't think it's possible, but when I'm super baked I think about things like this, I go so in-depth that I think it is possible, and try and come up with ways of how to do it.

If it were possible I'd travel back to the 60's before any other time. See my hippie friends

You seem to be confused. If you travel the observable universe in 50 years, time would slow down, so it is only logical, that if you speed up just a bit more, the advancement of time will become negative. reversing this trend is the key to forwards time travel.

I think if we tried to time travel it would crush us... because trying to go into a whole new dimension with all the forces and traveling at speed of light would just be insanely dangerous.. but yeah i image it as back to the future haha that would be so sick... but if it were possible nothing would really exist because it would all be alterable and there would be so much havoc
