Why is Suicide illegal?

Suicide is considered murder and murder is illegal.

 

I didn't know its illegal. Well really, its not.

If you attempt suicide they will evaluate your situation and you will go to a mental institution or something I don't really know the procedure but yeah. If they see you are not in a suicidal state they will send you home.

They won't fine you, or put you in jail.

If you do commit suicide no one will be going to jail or anything.

So what I'm trying to say, they can't call it illegal because they can do nothing about it.

People keep saying this, but if you fail at suicide, then you didn't kill anyone, not even yourself. That's the complete opposite of homocide. If you did succeed, than your dead and can't be charged with homicide. The suicide laws are obviously very fucked up. Usually, people are very iffy about free-will and human rights laws. In convalescant homes or rehabilitation centers, you can't FORCE anyone to stay there, if you do you can be charged with assault, false imprisonment, etc, etc....Yet suicide, an act of free will, is illegal. I agree that it shouldn't be punished, but helped. That is if the person is in a wrong state of mind(i forgot the actual term for that, its something state of mind...). If the person is coherent and simply wants to die, so be it. I really can't stop him, can I?...I just realized that if you witness someone commiting suicide and don't take actions to prevent, you can be charged with some kind of offense...forgot what is was called.

You must have meant wrong. The U.S. was founded on blatantly secular roots.

 

They probably don't want people forming euthinasia (sp?) companys (assistant suicide) to make money off killing other people.

 

If it was a financial issue, don't you believe that the government would have developed that company themselves. It's just not the case.

As for it being illegal, I think it should be, because without proper psychiatric evaluation, we don't know if a sucidial person is "mental" so to speak. A lot of it can be treated, so with that in mind, it should remain illegal.

 

What if somebody has a treatable disease, but wishes to die of that disease? Do you come along and forcibly treat them?

 

They don't want people messing up there econemy

 

Its their life, so one cannot control other people's matters.

 

I think that its horrible if you attempt to kill yourself and dont get it done because i think thats suffering enough and i agree with you because not everybody that wants to kill themselves think of the consequences

 

I believe that suicide is a terrible thing. The victim usually doesn't understand how much of a privilege it is to be alive. I also take pity in the suicide bombers. Ending their own lives for a promise of 72 virgins is just bit extreme.

 

I agree. Suicide is rarely a good choice.

However, would you agree that it is their choice, and however misguided it may be, they still have a right to make it?

 

Yes they still have a right, but they do not deserve such a right if they are to abuse it.

You abuse the right by taking other's lives when becoming a suicide bomber.

 

You're not really abusing the right to end your own life - you're violating the right of others to live.

 

Why should personal rights to do what you want to yourself be greater than the preservation of human life?

 

Rights determine what we can and cannot do. If one has a right to end their life, then, obviously, they have that right.
