Why cant I get a job?

Maybe next time you should try to word it differently. Unless they straight out ask you if you have your licence there is nothing wrong with word play. Tell them you are only 15 minutes away. They don't have to know its a bus ride and I doubt they would ask you.

 

Have you ever had a job in the past? If so what type of job and how long were you employed by them?

Most employers want people they can depend on. For example if you've never had a job, or have never kept a job for more than just a few months then chances are they won't hire you unless you stand out in a good way from the other people applying for the job or show the initiative to work long hours when no one else wants to.

You say you come off as positive/confident/knowledgeable. I would focus on this and, on top of putting a bunch of applications in, visit these places. Dress nicely (collared dress shirt and nice jeans should work fine), rehearse/have a good idea of what you have to say (sell yourself), and ask to introduce yourself to a manager. It leaves a good impression and almost guarantees your application will at least be read.

 

My only advice: don't openly state that you don't drive. Break this news to them once you've secured the job.

 

I second this. You can always just use word play to avoid talking about transportation completely unless they straight up ask you do you have a car. My past employer actually asked me if I had a car, thankfully I did.

Anyway; In the New year i'll just focus really hard on getting my drivers license (it's a cancerous 100 hours behind the wheel with a passenger who has their open license, up to 60 I think) my RSA cert and my RSG cert and if worse comes to worst i'll just start delivering pizzas.

because standards at the local can't be bought with memes and cynicism.

 

Where i'm from it's who you know. Ask around on social networks, ask your best mates if they know of any vacancies and get your foot in the door that way.

Any gaps in employment are worth filling with ANYTHING. Hobbies, and volunteering you've done etc. It shows you're always keeping busy and filling your time with something useful and not being a bum.

Tailor your CV to the job you're applying for.

Yeah I can relate to you a lot my friend, I'm from Australia. Between the ages of 14-17 I really struggled to find any employment. I was lucky I had a small income off of playing sport. What I found in my area (Adelaide) applying online for jobs wasn't working. I had to actually head into the store and hand in my resume physically to even get a look in. Hopefully this helps out mate

 

might not be a line of work your intested but it pays really good and they hire just about anyone who can last, concrete flat work. I was washing dishes for $7.25/hr got a job doing concrete flat work in one phone call off posting on craigslist now I make $18/hr and I started mid September. Just smash craigslist hard or look around on sythe for work. There is always a hustle to be made you just have to find out what your good at.

 

Don't feel worthless over not having employment... I did that for awhile. I hated myself because I couldn't find a job... But, I gave up on it and instead, began furthering my education. I'm only in my 3rd semester, but I'll be finished with a networking degree in the summer of 2017.

I've had one job. And they treated me like shit. The pay sucked. The supervisor bullied the temp workers, and I found out my 3rd day that if you tried to report him, you'd get fired... I stayed for the full temp work, a 30 day period, but looking back now, it wasn't worth it... So aim high, quit looking in grocery stores (and avoid Orcheln factories if there are any where you live, cuz that's where I worked lol)

If you can't afford college and you live in America, look into a pell grant. So far, I've gotten PAID over $300 every semester just to go to school... The pell grant goes off your income (or your parents income if you live with them) and pays out so much depending on that... My mom's a single mom with 2 kids, she makes 36k/year and so far, the pell grant has given me enough money to fully pay for my classes, full pay for my books, and I still get a few hundred back from them.

Even if you have to take loans, from my perspective, college is worth it these days... And it'll become a requirement eventually... I dropped out of school to work in a factory... 3 years went by, I never found a job... So I got my GED... another year went by, I never found a job... And finally, Orcheln's was the only place that'd take me - Now, you might be smarter than me... I've got tattoos all over my arms and hands, visible scars from doing stupid shit as a teen, and in this area, a little bit of a bad reputation... So maybe you're better off than me and thus, don't need all that I see that I need for employment... But education can't possibly hurt your job search.

So, I believe you should at least consider it and look into it.
