What about the GOLD?!?!

it will go down alot in the beginning i think around 0.6 lowest and then will rice alot again that's my thought about it

It will never go down that low at all.. Your acting like gold is in depserate measures.. Just because it's easy accessable people are paying for a risk.

I think it will go up over time. Here is my reasoning.

- currently, GP is only necessary for things like rares or possibly buying certain skills. However most people, unless they are merchers, had no need for huge amounts of gp or rares.
- with the reintroduction of free trade, people who were previously reluctant to buy gp because of all the difficulties (needing certain requirements, an xfer method, handing over your account to a gold seller, and need to not play your account for a while), will be more than willing to purchase gold due to how easy it will be.
-Staking alone should cause a huge influx in GP buyers. staking is an addictive hobby, and very few people are good at staking. As such, they will buy more so they can fuel their staking habits, since it is an enjoyable hobby.

As such, these are a few of the reasons why I believe gold will rise within a month or two of the release of free trade and staking.

I'ma have to disagree with you, simply because before the trade limit was ever in cap, their was no rediciulously expensive boss drop available. (God swords, god armour, and spirit shields). Frost dragons, dragon claw hunting etc... Their was simply FAARR less gold in the runescape economy back than, when compared with today. That's the true reason the price of rares like phats have inflated so much. They are just keeping up with how EASY it is to make 100m now a days. (In 06', 100m was VERY wealthy, enough to buy you a few phats.) Today, it takes about a week of camping gwd or d claw hunting to make 100m (maybe a bit more). Back than, 100m was obtained by a) luck in staking, b) cutting ALOT OF YEWS c) mining ALOT of rune ore. Ofcourse their were other money making methods, but non even close to todays gp/h possible.

Staking will bring many people for sure, and godswords, sigils, claws prices are going down :)

it should go up............why cant it go up? before they took away free trading, wilderness etc, gold used to be $5-6/ mil, why can't it go up again?

I don't think it's necessarily the ease of xfer that will lower the prices.

1. The reason gold went down from the $5, and $10 it used to be is because there is so much more gold in the game so players have access to larger amounts.

2. Sellers control the market they will lower prices as low as they feel necessary.

So I think prices will stay basically the same, maybe even out at $1

If PVP statues are removed, the amount of gold coming into the game will take a HUGE hit.. meaning the GP will hold a significantly higher value than it currently does. Therefore I predict that initially we might see a dip in prices, but it will soon recover and most likely be higher than it is now, despite gold being much easier to transfer.

The economy itself is gonna take a hit imo, things like furies and bandos will probably drop off a bit. Just basic things you expect to see people PKing in will probably go down, most likely after an initial buy out from people coming back.. but as the supply starts to meet the demand, it'll start crashing because they no longer disappear to the void whenever someone gets downed for them in PVP.. not to mention with GP holding a higher value, I'd expect to see some just general deflation.

As soon as people gather it all up at low prices its going to go up, also alot will disappear as members start getting banned for RWTing again.

I personally think it will go up. Before the owned free trade it was hovering around $4.00 to 5.00 a mil, and I think there will be a pretty big influx of the old players back (like hardcore stakers and pkers). Because of new moneymaking methods though, I doubt it will ever reach where it used to be, but I wouldn't be surprised at seeing it rise to $3.50 or so a mil.

bump, anyone else have an opinion to add? might as well talk a bout something since jagex thinks its so funny to toy with our emotions and withhold there plans (as we know the outcome has already been decided).

You raise a good point here. You need to factor in the billions of GP that will never get pushed back into the economy due to permanent bans.

Personally, without reading all the replies I think to start off with the prices will drop suddenly because there will be more people trying to buy gold because it will be very easy without any x-fer shit, also the competition will force mass gold sellers to lower the price to get business because everyone will want to buy gold.
There is a lot more gold in Runescape today then there was back in 07 and I assume with pking and staking coming back there will be a large amount of old players returning to PK and this might cause the prices of some useful pking items to rise.

Overall I see the price of mills dropping slightly then rising over time as plznate has stated.

Personally i think its going to drop but not too much - i think it will go to like 70 - 80 cents per mil then raise back to $1 - $1.20 and stable off.

plznate I think you're right about the dip then the rise.

I think the prices of items (especially rares) will drop because of stakers quickly selling their gain. As for other items they will drop because of botters.

This is very logical, gp will rise in the long run. At first it will drop because people who have huge chunks will sell their stocks and/or stocks will run out from so many people wanting to purchase gp. There is only so much gp a single person has to satisfy the amount of ppl that will be storming in to buy gp now (because you can trade directly ingamE).

It does NOT matter the price per mill of gold.

An example to prove this is, look at the price of a whip, back in 07, its price stabled at around 1.5M, and now it's between 3M and 3.5M.

A whip is an item, it has no price, but the economy gives it a price. With less gold in the economy, the whip will cost less because it is harder to gain those coins, but now, coins are easier to come by, so the price has risen.

TL:DR - The gold you get, will always buy the item you want, $/mill does not matter.

It'll drop dramatically because the past 3 years people that didn't have an xfer method there mills where worthless with the current gp sellers mills are at 1.50$ per mill and not many ppl have xfer methods.. Now anybody will be able to sell mills bringing billions of gp to sythe gold sales, probably will drop to around 50c
