Understanding the DNT (Do Not Trade) rank

Ok, well, as of now, there's literally jackshit being done about educating newcomers. The threads that do try to educate them are hidden throughout the forum. We need a single, coherent place where newcomers can retrieve common scam tactics and common knowledge of the forum.

If nothing is being done to educate users, you can't say "easier said than done". The least we can do is try.

 

If I can recall there was a giant discussion on how to educate users including a FAQ right after they register I believe. I don't really remember what came of it though it was years ago.

Of course we should educate newcomers. I'm not against that. I just think there is another step that can be taken on top of education to protect newcomers.

 

Roary already said there was going to be a PM to every newcomer with that giant how to survive sythe guide(back years ago when ur talking about) but its incredibly outdated and no-one wants to remake it now adays(he linked it on the recent "educating newcomers" suggestion thread.

Would take literally probably 10+ hours of solid work, threads a complete mammoth and would be horrid(even by my standards) to rewrite, almost as bad as my archives combing.

Interesting. But if it is as big as it sounds I don't think many people will get through it all just like most people skip EULAs and TOS'.

@Sythe completely disagree with all of of this, firstly the pardon system is absolute garbage at the moment with both terrible inconsistency's and no specific guidelines into letting people back. I've seen plenty of users that have made a mistake then attempt to do right by either repaying victims or taking a long break (1year+) before returning and trying to pardon which gets ends up deny'd and are told to wait 6 months to attempt to pardon again from mostly inactive mods that don't even read the pardons or accept the skype requests of people trying to add them to gain support or try to seek help returning. Why, if users are getting screwed over in the first place would they wait a further 6 months to potentially get screwed again and possible be re-denied. You need to remember after all this is a market based website and no one is going to wait multiple months to be able to buy gold or offer services when they can rejoin as a newcomer which takes 3 minutes work over and over. (in the above i am not referring to the % of scammers who are genuine Jerks and just scam legitimate users over and over again for personal gain or have bad intentions.) (Also i have never ban evaded but i really don't blame the people that do as i speak out of personal experience after myself being screwed in a pardon, and at times it has felt so much easier to just give in and do the wrong thing to regain access then to continue to do the right thing with no reward and further now be categorised with bad people who do the wrong with with no intentions of fixing their mistakes.)

As for stripping the post count and join date i feel that is wrong and unfair for the following reasons plus many more:
The DNT rank currently covers all Members for many different reasons and not only currently is 90% of access to the website been taken away already from us (markets, donation ranks, miniranks, ability to pm other users.) but the fact that DNT users like myself who have re-payed any previous debt owed donated even more to the website since returning and receiving the rank who are trying to enjoy the limited resources we have left (essentially a spam form) and also aren't vading. To then to try and take all we have left (join date/post count) for no reason at all considering we cannot access any markets and have a huge "DO NOT TRADE" rank in our name so it gives us no personal gain at all is just unnecessarily further punishing us also seems quite pointless.

You mention the point of this rank is both to reduce ban evading and give the chance to allow users to return to the community, but it seems as if it is starting to get taken advantage of as honestly how many DNT rank users have arranged either a payment plan or fully re-payed their debts in the month and a half it's been released? i do feel the frustration that the legitimate players and ex moderators points were feeling as it is starting to just feel like everyone just gets a free pass back to the website without having to make any effort to any corrections of previous actions. Maybe it's something you can look into so there is a medium put in place that keeps everyone happy eg. All DNT users must repay/set up payment plan within specific time of returning if they are looking to continue to be a part of the community or maybe re-payed DNT users can even then be given TWC's depending history as the TWC rank they would still be required to use MM's or go first most of the time. They would need to show they have done a specific amount of legitimate business transactions (vouches) to be able to remove the rank and be considered a regular member of the community. this also will entice and reward members looking to make positive actions into returning to the community without going through a trash pardon system.

Just my 2 cents, anyone feel free to let me know your feelings/views to any of the above.

 

Does this mean that even those who scam large sums (and are highly unlikely to repay it) won't get perm banned?

In my opinion this makes scam-quitting from several forums easier since the user is not banned from Sythe and users from other forums who do a fast google search only notice that Sythe account "X" is still active. I know this does not concern Sythe users directly but for the good of the general public this would make a difference.

Another reason why I think large-sum scammers deserve a perm ban derives from this line: "Serious indictable crimes are still permanently banable." . Scams that really hurt the victim (3 figures and up) in my view need to be punished as they have been thusfar.

Finally - leaving the perpatrators account unbanned will create a plethora of opportunities for those who scam via various forms of social engineering. I'd rather not elaborate on the billion and one schemes i've seen as I think those whom it concerns will know what I mean.

 

Instead of user title Do not trade there should be something abit more clear for new users
for example
Do not trade - banned from using market
Do not trade - user is banned in marketplaces
Do not trade - this user isn't allowed to do it

Or something like that

 

Good work, scammers should get banned

 

Not everyone who has the DNT rank have broken the rules of Sythe though
