Re-Compile Bonafide Rules & Guidelines In Regards to The DNT "Do Not Trade" Rank

The rules & guidelines for DNT without a doubt need to be re-written. I will be addressing issues with the "Do Not Trade" rank and the big grey areas it has. It's about time this is cleared up.

    What DNT is:
    • DNT is a more severe version of the TWC rank.
    • DNT users cannot PM other users.
    • DNT users cannot view or post in any market.
    • DNT users cannot view or post in any dicing section.
    • DNT users cannot display any ranks or miniranks except the DNT rank which they cannot hide.
    • DNT users are encouraged to repay any outstanding debts they have and attempt to pardon through a streamlined process.
    • DNT users will receive further temporary bans for attempting to trade with ban lengths proportional to how many warnings they have been given.

Just from a glance, these guidelines are frail and vague. To be frank, the only thing that makes sense is the logic behind DNT.

    • In most parts of the world punishment, restitution (repaying) and protection of others are separated.
    • In our case:
    1. A temporary ban is a punishment.
    2. Repayment of others is necessary to rejoin the market (through a pardon).
    3. DNT is for the protection of others.
    • Once punishment (ban period) for an offense has been served it is finalized and the punishment is complete.
    • DNT is not a punishment, it is for the protection of others.
    • After ban period is served the debt becomes a civil debt just like every other legal system.
    • Restitution (repayment of the debt) is still required to rejoin the market.
    • Serious indictable crimes are still permanently bannable.

To outline what Sythe's current view on DNT is let me show you a picture.

    DNT question

This is ridiculously stupid, I just cannot fathom the logic behind this. Some people make a living from selling their virtual goods. What you're trying to do is to dictate the life of others and control their flow of income/how they want to spend money. If the trade is offsite and your Sythe account is not directly involved a DNT member should not be punished for it.

Hypothetical situation, A non-DNT Sythe user willingly trades with a DNT user offsite, they continue to do smooth business for a month. The DNT user raises the price of their gold, non-DNT user is angry and blackmails the DNT user that if they do not lower the price he will report them for circumventing the DNT. Would it be fair for the DNT user to be punished?

The rules behind DNT aren't clear regardless of what Richard thinks, you can't hold anyone accountable until you compile bonafide rules & guidelines as well as address hypothetical scenarios (Similar to the issue we had with the blackhat rule).

Now let me list a bunch of unanswered hypothetical scenarios that fall in the grey area:

    • Are Sythe staff allowed to willingly trade with a DNT user? (If no, why not?)
    • Are Sythe staff allowed to sell goods of a DNT user if it's something that can't be recovered by the DNT user (Gold)? (If no, why not?)
    • Are Sythe members allowed to willingly trade with a DNT user? (If no, why not? They obviously knows that if the trade goes sour they took the risk)
    • What if a DNT user trades offsite with someone that is also a Sythe member? (Someone selling gold to Bogla via website) (If not allowed, why not?)
    • Are Sythe members allowed to sell goods of other DNT members user if it's something that can't be recovered by the DNT user (Gold)? (If no, why not?)
    • What is considered onsite and what is considered offsite? If you are DNT are you allowed to trade offsite but confirm it's them onsite (Posting on profile "Yes it is me").
Now let's look at these scenarios in the event that a DNT user has no outstanding debts, is the answer the same(Also a possible suggestion, something along the lines of "hey you now have no outstanding debts but we understand you aren't able to pardon currently, you can now X")?

I understand that there are a lot of divergent views on this topic, feel free to chime in.

Re-Compile Bonafide Rules & Guidelines In Regards to The DNT "Do Not Trade" Rank

I'd like of the DNT to be thought of as this: You are not allowed to advertise trading or really even trade, but if you do trade and we are not aware of it, we will not action. We will not search for you trading; however, if you approach a Sythe user trying to buy their gold and that Sythe user reports you, you will be banned. The update to DNT rules serves the purpose of DNT users being able to purchase gold from gold sites or even trade with individuals that do not care about their DNT status (i.e. friends that do not care about their status). Staff are ill-advised to trade with DNT users, but the same idea remains. If a DNT users approaches a staff member trying to trade, they may very well be banned.

If you want to be safe as a DNT user, DO NOT TRADE as the title suggests.

Staff can handle DNT cases as they occur. I do not care to jump through hoops trying to address each-and-every situation that may arise. If someone is actually being blackmailed for prices as a DNT, I imagine a report will be filed and the blackmailer will be banned. Who knows, we'll deal with it if it happens. DNT users received their DNT for a reason and we are not going to go any further out of our way to accommodate users in the DNT user group. I already pushed for the first update in DNT rules and that was a stretch.

If anyone is unsatisfied with this response, PM me and we can discuss it.

I don't see the point. As a seller I'm allowed to trade with whoever I want including members who aren't registered for whatever reason. I can trade with banned members and they face no punishment, but if they want to engage in the community they're suddenly not allowed to trade with me.

It seems really backwards in that sense. If by requesting a DNT you accept you can no longer use the market at all, what incentive is there for people to pay it off to return to the market? You're actually worse off by going through the procedure altogether atm.

I'm surprised that Elite Dust even took a DNT. I think that it shows that he has really changed. It would be much easier for Elite Dust to ban evade because of all the people that don't like him because of what he did. Instead he decides to request for a DNT and try to clear his name and help the community out. I haven't talked to him much and I don't know everything about him but he seems like a very genuine guy and I think he has changed.
