Punk doesn't apply to a specific sound of music, people generally assume that anything fast and haggard is punk rock, like sex pistols for example, and while some may protest that sex pistols are punk- they are definitely NOT. Punk is an ethic, it revolves around DIY, and usually revolves around belief in politics and even veganism. If you honestly call sex pistols, or the casualties punk, you are obviously mistaken, you can find any kind of merchandise by sex pistols, even in wal mart. Clocks, arm socks, etc, all fucking ridiculous, and all just strengthening the fact that sex pistols are sell out garbage.

REAL punk can be divided and heard through many sub-genres - grindcore, powerviolence, and the common term "hardcore".

some bands worthy of mentioning, followed by REASONS are listed below:

Swallowing Shit- Hardcore punk from winnepeg, strong vegan beliefs, angry lyrics about right wing sympathy, and even eventually got banned from playing shows because of their offensive material to government.

Dropdead- One of the pioneer hardcore punk bands that contributed to the grindcore sound, heavy, fast, political punk with members that moved on to other bands.

Dystopia- Sludgy veteran band, probably one of the most punk bands in history.

Crossed Out- A second wave powerviolence band that released everything DIY, and gave birth to the powerviolence era, among other bands like Man Is The Bastard

sure there is, you just dont know where to look. You're obviously not going to find any true punk over tv or radio, but there is a very large underground scene, full of new talent and many hardcore and punk bands are bringing back the true meaning and representation of punk rock.

Well for pop punk to me is Sk8ter boi by Avril Lavigne.

 

I love all those bands, but dropkick murphys arent punk

 

IM biggest Casualty fan here prob. Got every CD and DVD. Jake is awsome on guitar!

 

In the early days Dropkick Murphys were punk, they've merged over more into a celtic scene but all of the DKM songs I posted were off their first album.

Also to Severe:
Seriously, your making punk seem like its some huge image that if you don't follow, then your not punk. Theres more to punk than what your saying. Theres subgenres: Oi/Streetpunk, hardcore, the rowdy 70's etc etc etc. If you like your own subgenre, good for you, i'm proud of you, but not all of punk is based on that one type. And something about selling out: If a band changes its beliefs, genre, stuff like that, then sure, thats selling out and its understandable to stop liking a band because of it. But if a band does something like put their music on a video game, its no different than having their song on the radio or even doing gigs. They want to get their music out there, and maybe make a few bucks doing it, which really isn't selling out.

Also, if your the biggest casualties fan, don't you think you'd atleast spell their name right? =P

Rancid is amazing. Back in the days when they played with The Ramones was amazing. But they're still great!
