Ah yes, I thought so.

So Christianity has saved millions of people, but I have to convert to your faith and then die if I want proof.

Maybe not in the sense of somebody dieing with cancer, and are healed.

But the small things that all add up, such as: Many Orphanages are owned and ran by the church, many churches have schools, food drives, clothes drives, toy drives, free Thanksgiving meals are handed out every single year, same for Easter and Christmas.

Religion isn't the big bad wolf you try to make it out to be, just because a couple of extremist do some bad things doesn't make the religion a whole bad.

 

Are you serious? Look at all the different organizations that go out into third world countries giving food and medicine. All the money churches and youth groups raise, the mission trips they go on. Habitat for Humanity ALONE has built over 350,000 houses for people in need, which provides nearly 2 million people with homes. If you're honestly that naive then I pity you.

 

The Pope, who as I understand it, can never be wrong, ordered the Crusades to happen many times. The thought that, after "God" ordered the wars that killed millions, people will still follow this "God" is appalling to me. They may help people, but religion also hurts people constantly. The world can not be at peace with religion still existing. People are not good enough to be able to not force their beliefs on others and thus, it breeds hate and war and death.

 

The Pope is Catholic, not Christian. Maybe 700 hundred years ago there were popes, but not in todays day and age. And really, Christians aren't out to cause death and destruction. If they do so, and claim to be Christian, then they're not really Christians. And please, give me a modern day example of a war started by Christians over religion?

 

*rolls eyes* Why bring up an event that happened 700 years ago, the Pope at the time was incredibly corrupt. Modern day Christianity can not be compared to an event 700 years ago.

It will become extremely close to world peace, but of course, this will be led by the Antichrist, who will ultimately destroy the world.

Catholics are Christians. There is still a Pope today. The bible says that slavery is okay, and that gays should be killed.

 

Catholics are Christians, but Christians aren't Catholics.

If you're talking about Christianity during the Crusades, before the Reformation. Then Christians would be the same as Catholics.

The Bible has borrowed from countless other books of religion, and God's "omni-potency" itself is contradictory. The Bible describes a being which cannot exist. If the Bible was indeed a true story, such contradictions would not exist.

 

I wasn't sure if you got the second part.

I realize this, the Old Testament is the Jewish Bible. Do I believe the stories in the Old Testament? Most of them, no.

But the teachings, morals, and ethics aren't fiction.

 

Proof by contradiction

1. The bible is the inerrant word of God
2. Being the inerrant word of God, the teaching presented in the bible are a reflection upon reality
3. Genesis 1:16 reads "And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also."
4. According to the above passage, the moon emits its own light, and the sun is not a star.
5. In reality, the moon reflects the light of the sun and the sun is a star.
6. Statement #4 and #5 contradict each other, meaning that the original premise is false.
7. The bible is not the inerrant word of God.
   Q.E.D.

Keep in mind, I can replace statement 4 and 5 with any one of the tens of dozens of things in the bible that are at odds with reality.

I've added the word necessarily to illustrate that the relation between Christianity and Catholicism is like that of a rectangle and a square, that is, a square is a rectangle, but a rectangle is not necessarily a square (meaning that it CAN be a square, but does not HAVE to be one).

Nobody will contest that for his time, Jesus of Nazareth was a good moral teacher (if, in fact he existed), however this does not validate any of the supernatural claims made in regard to him.

 

Proof that he didn't do these things?

 

The Pope back then was way different than the Pope today. The Popes back then were corrupt. Catholics are not true Christians according to Protestants. Your claims about slavery and gays are taken from the Old Testament, correct? Most laws were overruled by Jesus in the New Testament.

 

Any sort of miracle is, by definition, a violation of the observed physical laws, and such a thing has never been observed to happen. Please explain how one would go about turning water into wine, or walking on water. Explain how one can rise from the dead after three days, despite the fact that their brain would be too damaged from the lack of oxygen to function, as would all the rest of their organs. Such things are, as stated above, contrary to the laws of nature and so do not happen in reality. If you would like to claim that they do, please explain how and give provide that such a thing has happened.
