The Promotions

Xombi, makes a great point. This is feedback, saying to give some other members a chance of modship, he's not asking, he's not asking for other mods to be demoted, he's just saying, to get some new mods that weren't previous mods. Its as simple as that. I'll make it bold just to get it through your minds.

I don't necessarily want new mods that aren't ex-mods, I just think that ex-mods should not get first priority of becoming mods again. I believe everyone here should have an equal chance, regardless of previous rank. I've seen ex-mods that have barely posted recently, become promoted instantly.

We try to be as fair as possible when it comes to promotions.

Staff members can nominate people for mod, which the global mods and admins then vote on. In addition to the vote, globals and admins are also required to explain their vote. Ex-mods don't get a free pass, they need to be voted on if they want to come back.

As for making friends with the staff, that won't do much. Everything comes down to how you act around the forum. I got a mod position in less than 2 months, and I didn't know any of the staff at the time.

As much as I hate to get involved with the 'politics' and backstabbing in this shithole of a website, I half-agree with OP. I don't have a problem with returning staff, but I DO have a problem with people resigning and coming back regularly. For example, Ryan and Finn. They're by no means the only ones, though. Just the first two to come to mind.

Everyone on staff was, at some point, a "regular member". However, the site is always understaffed, and we have no reason to turn away needed help when we know we can trust it. Doing so would be impractical - not to mention, there is nothing wrong with a mod taking a prolonged break from their responsibilities on the site every once in a while.

As for why the site is understaffed, it would be easier to find new mods if the average member - the one you suggest we promote - weren't a scammer, or prone to corruption. Given the ban rate, I consider it to be rather impressive that we've had so few serious problems with our moderators (and our MM's) in the past year.

Yep, just to elaborate on what Sin said, in all jobs across the world, experience is usually the main factor. And honestly, when you look around, it's hard to find people that stand out as deserving staff members. It takes more than simply posting on Sythe everyday to be a worthy candidate, we need to see that the member is genuinely interested in helping the site, and is not after personal gain from their rank.

We've had some major issues with Sythe staff, back in the day. Atomic is the name that comes to mind immediately. He was active, trusted, and a competent staff member, but ended up ripping a lot of people off on the site. It just goes to show how careful you need to be when selecting people.

Actually, all that Atomic did was send out phishing emails (and never responded to the replies he got) and POSTED ONCE using Cheeter's account when it was hacked. Not the right thing to do, but there's no proof of scamming. Suspecious, yes. Proof? No.

I see what you mean and I understand why you'd be hesitant; I just believe that everyone else shouldn't be punished for a few people becoming corrupt. It's gone far beyond being cautious and is on the verge of becoming exclusive.

What makes a "regular member"?
Not having been around long? Therefore not trustworthy?

Someone without a rank, obviously. Just because you've been around for years doesn't mean shit, as you don't have to post in those years. If I made an account when Sythe started, never posted once, and came back to the account 4 years later, does that mean I'm trusted? Not in the slightest.

I agree with Xombi
Just because alot of people scam doesn't mean you can put everybody else out on that same list.

When I was promoted, the only staff member I ever talked to was Swan...

As for old staff members coming back... Most of the staff members that come back were the ones that asked to be demoted in the first place... If they hadn't, they would still be mods. If they want to take some time off, then you should let them take a break.

As for new mods... It is very hard to find good mods. Staff members have to know about someone to know if they would make a good staff member. If you are friends with the person, then you know if they would be good. You guys are saying that only mods friends get promoted. Well. Out of all the staff, they have many friends, most of them are not morons either. Why would a staff member be friends with a moron?

That being said, many of the mod material people are friends with staff members, but it is not a popularity contest when the vote happens. To get nominated, staff members must know about you. Being friends with them is one of the many ways they can.

it would be better if there will be like a stairs.. before you get mod you have to earn the OMM rank something like that.. but all in all i dont care about this things all i want is to do business and make friends in sythe community.

Thats just dumb. Forcing people to do x y and z before they can be mod if they would be a good mod is stupid.

I talk to a lot of staff members, but only as friends.

I don't have conversations about the site, mods and such.

This place will always be understaffed that's just the way it is.

I don't feel like reading this through completely.. but I will give my 2¢

I don't think you can just give promotions out of the blue

I think you should work your way up, like original staff have.

Look at TRIBAL for example, he became graphics mod or something? Then like the "head" graphic guy or w/e. and later got to global.

And like other mods/people said, You just want random people that arnt as trust worthy/know what they are doing?

Take Jethr0x for example, you see how he turned out.

And Maybe if your MM long enough, Build your way up to an OMM, perhaps one day they will give you Market mod or RS Mod or something.

This made no sense,

Tr1bal isn't global.

Ehhh I think I just see the little santa hat thing and think global, bad habbit

Hes a runescape mod, thats what i ment, sorry.

And at this rate, it wouldn't surprise me if he is global one day =s.

Well, think about it like this. Would you like a mod that was a mod before who you can trust and that knows what they are doing, or someone that could be untrustable and not knowing what they are doing at all?

What Chase has said is completely right. You would want to mod someone you know and talk to a lot for example on msn.
