What is the point of it, really?

The information given by the user is kept in the staff lounge probably, and never released to scam victims or anyone. I remember someone saying that if there was a police report then it would be used, but really? Who's going to file a police report over some gold?

A good example of this is Invocation. He scammed like 6b, but you guys wouldn't give his information to the victims to maybe call him and speak with him or his parents to get it back.

It puts a symbol of trust on people who probably shouldn't be trusted. $5 for trust, sounds good to me.

Worst idea to be implemented on Sythe in my opinion. It almost creates scam opportunities by letting people think they're dealing with someone trusted who can be held accountable for their actions if they scam, when in reality they can't.

Invocations victims should have been given his SVU information. It is wrong that they weren't. That's what it was made for, correct?

Same thing happened to xkronik (I think that's how you spell his name) he scammed a user and he was a SVU, the scammed user asked for the information and was never handed to him (To my knowledge)

I agree with this though, if you went to the police and told them someone scammed your runescape gold they'd laugh at you, more action should be taken if a SVU scams with legit proof.

I agree, however I do think the initial idea had the right intentions. Perhaps if they enforced it stronger it would provide more of an element of trustworthiness?

Hell, I know if I was going to scam somebody I wouldn't want my address and telephone numbers getting released.

They stated somewhere that information would not be released except for to the police if contacted by them for a police report.

This is fucking retarded to be honest.

Hell, I know if I was going to scam somebody I wouldn't want my address and telephone numbers getting released.

This.

Most scammers seem to be kids who don't have jobs yet. Giving their phone numbers allow us to contact their parents and hopefully work it out, probably preventing scams in the first place since they know we can do this.

So really there isn't going to be a use for it as police aren't going to respond seriously to reports under $1k.

Agree with OP. Victims should be given all said individuals info.

I agree as well, if someone scams the victim should be given the information on file that is what it was created for in the first place.

The SVU clearly states what it can and can't be used for. If someone is to initiate a police case with someone, then we will supply the information to the authorities. We can't release the info because of violating personal information and such legal problems.

How could someone initiate a police case without knowing the person's personal info?

By telling them to contact us or vise versa. We can't just release everyone's personal info over the internet, but we can supply it to the authorities should you wish.

It's made very clear on the SVU description:
While we cannot guarantee a Sythe Verified user won't scam or cause other trouble, we can at least ensure we have their personal information on file to provide to law enforcement.

Yeah if the phone number is his cell phone, then his parents will never even get the call.. not many people in 2013 have a land line anymore.

So, it's stated the police may not even get involved for up to a 25,000$ (citation needed) scam... and the information won't be released without involvement from the police, therefore rendering it inaccessible unless in a very rare situation.

Yes you can research and find information about what a SVU is or isn't, but most people (the 2 invocation scammed for six billion rsgp) were new to the forums and probably couldn't locate RWM's quote in the forums if you asked them to. So as it is stated before it really is just a glorified tag that offers no real added security, but can trick a new member into thinking sythe endorses the user or some such.

It is a tag that is openly misleading many who do not lurk the forums on a regular basis, that offers no real security or offers retribution for negative actions.

Do away with it if it has nothing to offer in any real situation...

No matter what we do, how heavily available some information is or how simply we explain everything on the site, people are going to get scammed regardless. We can't, by law, release personal information - so there's not really much we can do on that part other than assist in any legal action taken.

If people researched and looked at what the ranks meant, they wouldn't be so easily lead.

If you clearly state that their information will be given out when they buy it if they should ever scam, then I'm sure you could avoid any legal issue. Hell, giving out personal information doesn't usually cause legal issues, hence why Richard did it with Stui before.

SVU description clearly states only to law enforcement though

It gets us into murky waters regarding safety and disclosure of personal information. - Matthew

I said this when the whole 'Sythe verified' process began. At the very least, it needs to be even more clear that information will not be provided to individuals. The initial announcement wasn't clear on disclosure regulations, and the donation center isn't much better. One of the first things it should say, "This information will never be disclosed to any individual on Sythe.org. It will only be given to a verified law enforcement official with a court ordered doe subpoena"

If that isn't the standard, you guys should create one and voice it.

It's not like doxing can't be done if a serious scam happened. The people that scam do not deserve to have their name clean, simple.
