Cant seem to find this if this has been suggested before. If so, hate me.

Can we get a sticky in the Name Sales section with a list of sniped names?

Sticky wouldn't say "Do not buy these names" however it should say something like "Have Caution when buying X name" or "These names have been reported to have been sniped, inquire you're seller how he/she acquired the name before buying".

Someone would have to update the thread and names listed on thread kind of like how the Name Request Thread is.

This is definitely open to interpretation, so if you like it but think it would be better if done another way, definitely voice what you think.

Why? To help prevent people who've sniped names (scammed) from re-selling.

How? Easily create a thread, sticky it, and have someone add names when someone reports one sniped (similiar to the Name Request Thread)

Why not? I dunno, maybe you don't want to stop scammers from easily selling a sniped name.

I've tried to enforce this, but it's just too hard. You would need to provide full evidence, which means a fully filled out report, evidence that a name was sniped (which is sometimes hard) and etc. Think about how many reports there are about people's names being sniped? Almost none. Based on personal experience, they're hard as fuck to catch. What if someone decides to unknowningly buy a sniped name? It wouldn't be fair for them to have their name on what is essentially a "Do not buy" name list.
Sorry if I missed some points, I didn't read the whole thread.

Yeah it's really hard to keep track of. It's a very sketchy market unfortunately with a lot of missing information that 99% of us do not know. So it'd be near impossible to do this efficiently and correctly.

What would be smart is a sticky that says that the name sales market is sketchy and that users should enter it with extreme precaution. That way new users are informed of what is capable of happening. The sticky should include scams such as resnipe, name recovering, and etc.

Yeah i could support that. That would be a great idea to have a thread that explains that names can get recovered and sniped and such. I believe there is one for sniping; however, its very brief and doesn't explain at all what it is. Potentially a revamp of that thread?

Wouldn't really need full scam reports or anything to report a name, just someone saying their name has been scammed and maybe some evidence that they atleast used to own it.

Also, as I said in OP, the thread wouldn't say "DO NOT BUY" just says to have caution when buying the name.

People would claim that their name is unjustly tagged, would create a lot of drama, and tbh would be a LOT of upkeep. Besides, people would complain for days and it'd just create more problem than it would fix imo

Tbh, I have no idea how it could create drama. I envision that it would be a list of name that have been said to have been sniped, so when you're buying a name from someone you could refer to it.

Also, not really sure what you mean by "tagged" but assuming you mean sniped, how can someone be justly sniped? On you're comment about upkeep I would agree, it would require someone to update the OP, however could probably be updated every week or so.

Lastly, I have no idea what people would be complaining for days about, I mean it would just be a list of names that have been said to have been sniped in order to give you a little precaution when buying names.

Plenty of people would come and say "I have that name, I bought it" or "It wasn't sniped" etc. They would complain that they obtained their name legitly from a sniper, or that the name wasn't sniped at all. Who's job would it be to determine the validity of that? Or say we just leave it be, and if it was sniped once it remains. Plenty of names are sniped, and while many of us don't think to check, I can bet around 25% or more of the names that circulate through big name sellers were sniped at some point, but are no longer categorized as that.

The only thing that implies "snipe=scam" is Sythe. Most good names come from some form of sniper in the beginning. People snipe them to sell them legitimately. Warning everybody about the dangers thoroughly would be 1000% more effective than singling out name status' that change literally every day.

I'm not talking about every name in history to have been sniped, I'm talking about the ones that haven been bought/sold on sythe.

Agreed entirely, as Josh and I detailed out earlier

No one on Sythe knows all the RSNs that are for sale right now on Sythe lol. Many of the sellers keep their names very private. Ergo, that would be very ineffective

Lol you wouldn't need to know every name being sold on sythe, just when one gets sniped and it was from someone on sythe, they could post that their name was sniped and then if someone is selling it on sythe the next month or whatever, then you would know it was sniped.

I basically see this as an idealistic idea. Sure it would be good in theory; however, the practicality of this working isn't there. What do you do 2 months down the road when a name that was sniped is now up for sale by a new owner, who claims to have bought it, and shows proof of purchase, or who doesn't show proof of purchase? What do you do 2 months down the road when a sniped name resurfaces in a private sale that the big name sellers know nothing about, because the buyer didn't read the sticky. What do you do if someone claims a name got sniped, and someone else doesn't. Are we going to ask Sythe mods to weigh in everytime in order to post the name or not, when a scam report isn't opened?

As you can see there are simply too many complications to make this ineffective and unrealistic.

If this was in place, then when 2 months down the road a sniped name comes up for sale, you get proof from the new owner of the name that they bought it, find out who they got it from, and see if they have a sythe account and ban them.

Also, the scenario that someone claims that their name got sniped, then someone else claims it doesn't really make sense. It's pretty easy to confirm if you have ownership over an account or not, and wouldn't benefit anyone if you fake that you're name has been sniped.

Would be super hard to regulate. Proving who did the sniping/even that the name was sniped is actually really tricky.

It's quite a hassle to keep track of all sniped names as there are literally thousands of names that are frequently being tracked by snipers (or so I believe.) I don't think it's quite possible really.

Wouldn't need to keep track, when someone from sythe's name gets sniped, they post on the sticky and then someone adds it to the OP.

You're half correct, proving who did the sniping would be super hard, almost impossible. However, instead of trying to find out who did the sniping in the first hand, we just put out a warning so that the next time the name comes up for sale, we track it back to the sniper and see if he has a sythe.

On your comment about checking if "even that the name was sniped", I don't understand why anyone would lie about their name being sniped as it would provide no benefit to them, only making it harder for them to sell later on.

Wouldn't there have to be a valid way of confirming it was actually sniped?....
