Ritalin is a central nervous system stimulant that improves focus, reduces potential for distraction, and is known by some as a "brain booster".

    Good idea, or no? Discuss.

Too much side effects and I think you should work to be smart, not have some stimulant to help out even the slightest... And why are you using Wikipedia as a source?

Holy shit, they make it sound so "good" but isn't that stuff addictive?

    Scheduling and abuse potential

In the United States, methylphenidate is classified as a Schedule II controlled substance, the designation used for substances that have a recognized medical value but present a high likelihood for abuse because of their addictive potential. Internationally, methylphenidate is a Schedule II drug under the Convention on Psychotropic Substances.[34] Methylphenidate has been used illegally by students for whom the drug has not been prescribed, intended to assist with coursework and examinations.

    according to wikipedia.

    What side effects are there?

    Why?

It's a reference for those who don't know anything about it. They can check the sources listed at the bottom of the page if they want.

Well i'm currently taking Ritalin (for my intense a.d.d.) and it seems to work great. Except if i forget to take it one day, my a.d.d. symptoms get worse than normal for a short period of time.

I actually believe I have a limited case of A.D.D and I was interested in pursuing this drug.

Inventor, if you just have a mild/limited case of a.d.d. i would say the side effects outweigh the good points by a whole lot.

    I used to take Ritalin,
if you take it when the doctors prescribed, etc.

    You won't get addicted.

But I've heard of my friends getting high off of it...

    just depends on the user,

and they do lots of tests on you, when prescribing Ritalin, they don't just hand it out.

And if I get none of these?

I suppose we have differing definitions of what is fair, then.

I just zone out a ridiculous amount of time. It feels like it cuts my life in half even though it's not all that "noticeable".

The only time I like it is for long walks.

That shit controlled my life sooo much.

I was always non talking, and hated being around people, more than i do now.

I would get aggravated really easily, and cried easily.

    So no, bad.

It doesn't seem harmful, but reliance on something and then lack of that thing you rely on is never a good thing.

Depends when you take them. If you're in a contest designed to measure natural ability, and it's against the rules, then no, it's not fair. However, if you're in reality, trying to succeed, then anything goes.

No, This is only effective on hyper active people, such as ADHD. ritalin is a depressant, If you take it and your not hyperactive, itl put you to sleep, youl be out of energy and probably have huge mood swings.

I dated a girl that was very hyperactive and she was on it for awhile, Tho it fucked with her, made her boring and not wanting to do anything. Stay away from the shit.

Ritalin kills your appetite. I had it before alternatives were out as a spacey 2nd grader.

I'm not really ADD, but I keep Adderal for the main tests. It acts like a shot of caffeine, you're really awake. If you take 2-3 pills, it gives you an overintense focus.

Negatirve side effects I've seen are can't sleep if you take one 10 hours before you sleep, appetite, and sometimes I feel a bit more grouchy.

You can get high off both, but I'd really doubt they were addictive enough for that to be their problem.

You really have no idea what the hell you're talking about. Ritalin (as most ADHD medicines) is a STIMULANT. It makes you more AWAKE. It works by connection signals within your brain that ADHD people lack.

It has a clear effect on most people, like a good shot of caffeine. As a matter of fact, coffee is suggested as an alternative to medication.

Dating a emo is NO evidence for it's potential side effects, though I do believe mood changes are a possibility.
