    Rational Suicide

I was aiming it at the person above who said they wouldn't walk on the same street as someone who felt like that.

You can't hate on a type of person, which makes it worse for them, and then say they're selfish for acting against it.

    Rational Suicide

Suicide is, to put it simply, when the pain and anguish somebody feels exceeds their means to cope with it. In a way it's selfish but they deserve that right, it's their life and even if people are sad to see them go at the end of the day it's what they wanted. Suicidal people do not need criticism or pity, they need assistance. I think that, generally, people consider suicide an extremely long time before they do it as it's a pretty major decision so I think that there is rationality to the process. As an aside though, I find it pretty tragic when people decide to jump in front of trains and the like due to the effect it has on witnesses and the drivers. The suicide itself isn't irrational but the way they go about it can be. It's extremely difficult not to be compassionate and to criticise somebody who is hurting so badly they kill themselves though... well besides the occasional person in this thread.

As for rational suicide, what does everybody think about being cryogenically frozen? Is it suicide if there is a genuine belief that you will be revived at some point in the future even though the technology doesn't exist at the time of freezing? I find it pretty fascinating.
