Race And Intelligence.

This is incredibly racist. If you've taken a basic Psychology course, you would know that correlation does not equal causation. For example, if patients are given marijuana as a "medicine" and are tested for a loss of brain cells, having that loss wouldn't necessarily mean anything. It could have been caused by a chemical they have breathed in, something else they had partaken in (drinking, certain types of pills/other drugs, etc.). My (and everyone else's) point is that all you're doing is taking a correlation which leaves out EVERYTHING but race and acting as if race is the only possible cause of differing IQs. It's stupid, and it's making you look terrible.

 

The differences seem to correlate more to societal causes and not directly racial. Certain races are more subject to certain environmental factors - e.g. Africans and poverty, South Asians and family/cultural expectations, Asians and stress/pressure to succeed etc. Those are generalizations but I'm sure you get the point.

I don't get how culture affects intelligence. Do you know what intelligence means?

Science still isn't sure if your parents' IQ directly affects yours; what makes you think a bunch of teens on this forum can determine if their race will?

Your race determines many biological traits. Your brain is a part of your anatomy isn't it? It's called epidemiology.

Two words: control groups.

 

A logical one is the black kids that were adopted and lived in a peaceful environment even though they still had lower IQ than the white people during a study of 400+ adopted kids. It's not coincidence. Another one is a study of twins and how close they are to each others IQ, very close actually.

Go read any introductory anthropology textbook, even the most recently published ones, and they will ALL state that there is NO correlation between race and intelligence. It's a well known fact that most real anthropologists consider Rushton and Lynn charlatans.

I think anyone who says race has nothing to do with intelligence or actions, should look at those. Especially the first one.

 

You have to take in consideration the effects of being adopted has on the children, especially when they're a different race than the parents. Maybe they are not being fully accepted by extended family? If you take even the simplest psychology course you will understand that you have to take into consideration ALL factors that could alter your result, and categorize every single bit of data into different sections. Your poor research and claims leads me to believe that you seem to think you are superior because of your "race". The whole concept of "race" is flawed in my opinion, but that's another issue.

The Bell Curve is a popular book, but it is NOT an academic book and cannot be used as a reliable source for anything.

 

Don't you think the doctors who went through this study have better glasses than you do? This study got a lot of critics aswell - you can find their answers if you search.

 

Did you even read the link you posted? Nowhere does it take in consideration even the most simple control factors.

I'll hazard a guess that Djinn and other proponents of the Race/Intelligence relation have no knowledge or real interest in human genetics, anthropology, or science in general, and are merely trying to push their own point of view without even understanding the subject.

Take an introductory anthro course or read the first few pages of a textbook, then tell me if you still believe that Race and Intelligence are related.

The second article you linked, Djinn, doesn't contradict the quote I posted from the textbook. Incidentally, this entire thread is people flinging random articles and web pages at each other. Not much of a discussion, really.

I believe that there can be differences in intelligence relating to ethnicity.

Intelligence is a mixture of environment and genetic predisposition. As evolution goes, the more intelligent the human being, the more chance of a human being surviving.


Genetically, humans are so close on an evolutionary time scale to one another that the difference in IQ is due 99.9% to culture and genetic predisposition.

That being said, yes but you can't attribute this to someone you know.

I'm actually interested in the topic and want to learn more. I'm taking my master science in engineering right now, so Biology is something I read after school, like a hobby. And my english is not the best, so I find it easier to take it in my native language since we hardly use English now. But you're wrong, I've read a lot of topics about this subject, e.g the book MENSA recommends and few others.

Of course culture affects intelligence you total moronic bigot. If you're brought up in some scumbag community do you think you can perform well on psychometric evaluations, make rational, logical decisions etc - i highly doubt it as your surrounds will influence your development, emotional intelligence, ability to learn and handle complex tasks blah blah blah. The reason why there is this perception is predominant black communities have a poorer health & education system - hence less intelligent people populate these areas because of these surroundings.

If you were to take a BLACK BABY and put it in a well established community (black/white/purple whatever just well established) or a WHITE BABY and put it into a "black" or downright shitkickin community generally speaking you would find the same thing in respect of intelligence (emotional, psychometric).

As far as learning languages - you have a language acquisition device which basically gets turned on if you are bilingual (2-5 years). You can learn more languages better, faster afterwards supposedly.

As far as I.Q goes - I believe it is nature and nurture. You inherit certain factors about your parents and how you have been brought up plays a large role.
