"…[T]he rising threat of AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases has become one of the most compelling arguments for the complete legalization of prostitution. According to current evidence, roughly half of the street prostitutes in Washington, D.C., and New York City are HIV-positive. In Newark, New Jersey, the estimate is that close to 60% of all prostitutes carry the AIDS virus. Yet, in the relatively 'free market' of Nevada, where prostitution is legal, not one (as of 1989) of the state-licensed prostitutes has ever tested positive for AIDS."

-- Paul Armentano

I believe in the complete legalization of prostitution. The right to be a prostitute is as important as the right not to be one. It is the right to set the terms of one’s own sexuality, plus the right to earn a good living.

Gary Ridgway said that he killed prostitutes because he knew he would not be held accountable. The tragedy is that he was right - he confessed to the murders of 48 women, committed over nearly twenty years.

They're many positive effects of the complete legalization of prostitution.

As long as the prostitutes remain clean I'm all for it. Their business who they have sex with and the reasons behind it.

The spread of AIDS via prostitution isn't the fault of the prostitutes really, it's the fault of the people paying them as they took the risk. It's their job choice, and so be it.
If it's legalized it can be a service, and a recognized service isn't supposed to cause harm to the person. That'd be like sending your car to be repaired only to have it worse off when you get it back.

Well yes, I see where you're coming from however paying for prostitution is a recognised risk as it is known that a high number of prostitutes with STDs. It's more like taking a car to a dodgy mechanic in hope for a good service, only for things to turn out worse after.
But is prostitution is legalised, then I believe it's the government of that state/country's responseability to run regular STD screening sessions and such.

Prostitution should be legal and regulated. Both the prostitutes and the customers would be better off, it would only hurt pimps and traffickers.

black males give aids to prostitutes. prostitutes give aids to hard working white males. enough said.

lol really. I would think white males give it to them as well with your state of mind I'm guessing you believe black people carry STDs just because we are black.

It's really no ones right to say who has sex with who and where. As long as both parties are okay with it. I'm not saying doing it in front of a bus station is OK but it shouldn't be illegal

I think it should be legal, and be an "at your own risk" sort of thing. As for the prostitutes, it's their body they can do whatever they want with it. If people are willing to pay money to have sex, so be it.

It should be as legal and unregulated as all business should be.

I disagree, as I had this discussion with Darren, I'd rather help the organizations that moderate this stuff do so, rather than be forced to waste my time doing background checks on everything I buy. While I don't think there should be much regulation, I certainly think there should be some regulation if a business license is to be issued.

If these numbers are correct, then I agree that it should be legalized with business licenses and daily/weekly/ or at least monthly testing. I believe all clients should be recorded, and in the event the working gal tests positive, the clients should all be notified of the risk, and seek medical attention.

I also believe street walking should not be allowed, instead they should be forced to be within a building. Street solicitation is as disgusting as a bum, even if they are attractive women. Would you rather buy something from a guy on the street, or from a company that invests lots of money in making their product the best on the market?

That's ridiculous. A brothel that mandates its employees be tested regularly will gain a reputation for being clean, and people will know that if a prostitute is backed by said brothel they can reasonably assume that they're safe to do business. A brothel without these standards will gain no such reputation and fall by the wayside.
You can also always choose not to involve yourself with prostitution in the first place, which is what I would suggest anyway.

Street prostitution will always exist, but as Tyro says a brothel which enforces safety will gain a positive reputation. Though, with that, the price would probably rise.

And as a side note, AIDS is not the only dangerous STI. There have been multiple cases of untreatable gonorrhoea around the world, which can cause significant problems in pregnancy.

I disagree. I fail to see how seeing an attractive woman is considered disgusting. I see no difference between corner shops selling used t-shirts and a young woman selling sexual favors. If you don't want to buy the used t-shirt, walk by the earnest salesman and continue along your way.

The difference is the type of solicitation. It's a business, they don't need to be amassing on the streets selling it. You people may be ok with being bummed in your car by sales people constantly, but I don't. I'd rather enter a building of a place I want to purchase product from, rather than have tits on my windshield trying to convince me to buy.

Anticipating something will fall purely because a brothel has a better reputation is what is ridiculous... I'm not doing this judgement based on the fact that they're selling sex, I'm doing it based on the fact that they're selling anything at all. If they're going to be running a business, they need to run it like a business, not like a bunch of bums on the street offering petty favors for cash.

I'm divided on this topic, I know that it's a wrong thing to do, but people in the life have a bad start, and need the money. If it was going to be legalized, it should be mandatory to wear a condom. I always thought, people in porn videos are the same resemblance to people in brothels, they are paid to have sex, so how come ones legal, and the other is not?

Not sure if srs or just newfag...
Which is better, a prostitute or an escort service?

That is if you see any difference to begin with.

Again, that's irrelevant; if many people are as uncomfortable with having sex with someone walking the streets as you are, the prostitute will simply find another job or starve.

You're not reading properly Tyro, either that or you don't understand. It's completely relevant as what I'm saying has nothing to do with my personal feelings, it's from a professional business sense.

For one, everywhere there are street walkers, there is private property, they are using other business areas to solicit customers, or they are on state property which is funded by the tax payers...

Why should they be allowed to sell products out in the street using the property of others and not be forced to go through all the normal business hoops? You want them to have completely free reign of the streets to sell their bodies, and I'm telling you that it won't work that way and that it shouldn't.

I understand a majority of Sythe has a very unrealistic belief in how the world should work, I'm telling you to wake the fuck up. If prostitution were to become legal, street-walking would remain illegal because of everything it entails.

It should be legal. Why shouldn't it be legal is the question.
