I added another bullet to combat the non contributors.

A few problems with this:

I don't see anyone other than a staff member being in charge of this.

Staff will think of it as a chore. They would prefer it being automated.

A criteria would need to be created for users to match.

There would be too many users to keep track of.

The only users I see being close to obtaining this power are the non staff members of the CDT. Even then, I still wouldn't trust them to give out points properly even with a cap placed on it.

I don't think there are too many users to keep track of, assign 2 or 3 people to 2 or 3 different parts of the forum, e.g one person keeps track of the graphics and support center.

Not a fan. Has it been shown to increase the QoL anywhere else? Sythe isn't really meant to be a game, and I feel like points would turn it into exactly that.

This is to reward users for their activity and provide an alternative way to get miniranks.

If you read the bullets, it would stop those who view this as a "game" from being eligible to obtain points.

It's just miniranks. No one will go through dire measures to obtain one as you guys anticipate, regardless of the imaginary "price" set on these images. If you viewed the market for miniranks, you can see it dying out. They're becoming more of an unprofitable image which is a good thing.

 

To receive a point reward, posts must be X amount of characters maybe?

Online activity? I feel this would need to be more narrowly defined. Especially if the system is automated, it's either yes or no. There can't really be grey areas.

As for the idea itself, I'm not too sure about it. This kind of seems like a system that could be a bust, so if it takes a lot of coding and effort, I wouldn't support it. But if it wouldn't take too much time, I wouldn't see why not.

 

Ultimately a similar opinion. If the time to create such a system is worth more than any boost of activity it may provide, then I'm against it. I don't have a clue about what it'd take to make a suggestion like this tick though.

 

I'm in full support of anything that would increase forum activity.

 

I don't know about minirank purchasing, but maybe like a minirank raffle at the end of each month with 1 point being 1 entry? Could be a few prizes every month, would be kinda need; support anyways, I'd love to see some more participation over all forums.

 

I think the best way to handle this would be to severely inflate the value of these points, to the point where it would take 3-4 weeks of let's say 2-3 ppd to achieve a "mid / low tier" mini rank.

We would preserve the value of the mini-ranks that are already in circulation, and then would gain the benefit of a small incentive for active members such as yourself to continue the activity, an incentive for inactive members like myself to come out of the woodworks and be a part of the community again, and incentive for new members to hop into a community that is eager for conversation.

Don't like this one. People who donate already recieve enough incentives by being able to customize their own UT, having a larger avatar, and being able to customize their own rank and UI. I know donating is important to this site and it benefits financially, but I don't think an additional bonus should come through the use of this system if implemented. I think this would work very well if it promoted activity, as opposed to having a "loophole" to gaining mini-ranks. I'm not 100% sure of the $$$ amounts, but as far as I'm aware, unless things have changed, you already gain prizeboxes for donating large amounts anyways, no need to allow more mini-ranks for $$$.

 

I completely forgot that I created this thread. I no longer support or rather agree with the premise of a point system, at least in the way I presented it a year ago. I believe with the new forum software, activity will be more apparent (notification system), and miniranks are coming in a much faster pace than they did a year ago. Close this thread if you'd like.

Certainly worried about noobs just spamming for post count/points.

 

Moderators would have to be active in their sections to catch spamming, and those that go unnoticed will be taken care of in spam reports. Why is this a problem?
