Pin Scammers - The Solution
Introduction
- This isn't a "LOLZ GET RID OF SCAMMERS" thread.
- I would very much like to see one or all of my ideas taken seriously
- I have been watching the sythe pin market for a very long time, and all my observations have been seen and are not at all false.
The Observations
- There are alot of pin scammers (no brainer)
- People are selling saying "Official MM or You First" To make them seem legit
- There are alot of long-time pin scammers (explained later)
- Alot of noobs can't tell trusted from untrusted people
- There is too short supply of pins
- Pins are too low priced.

The Solutions
Solution 1: More Official MMs
This solution is quite a no brainer and i'm presuming is already in place. But i'm posting it here just to pretty much say that it will help.
Pin sellers are getting away with sayin "Official MM or You First". This is because they know that there won't be an Official MM on, or the buyer won't be prepared to pay the fees, or the seller will just be able to leave the convo if an official mm is added. By saying this, the seller is able to appear legit.
The obvious solution: More official MMs, Not only does this allow official mms to be on, it lessens the demand for them, meaning that they are more likely to charge less or do more pin trades. Pretty simple solution, and im pretty sure Sythe is looking for as many official MMs as possible already
Solution 2: TWC
This solution is designed directly to stop 2 problems.
The first problem is there are long time pin scammers, by this i mean, people who are able to scam over 10 pins, and still remain unbanned. Even though these people, have no or faked vouches, and multiple reports of being scammers, they remain on sythe, unbanned, and still scamming.
The second problem is that people new to sythe don't know how to tell if someone is trusted or not, thus resulting in them trading with someone untrustworthy even though they may or may not have reports of being a scammer.
The solution is already with us: Three simple words, Trade With Caution (TWC). At current, TWC is being used for those who are scammers, but have resolved their ways, i.e. proved to be a scammer, but payed back and said it was a one-off/mistake. However, it is used for other things. I suggest that the Trade With Caution be used for what its purpose is. I propose that TWC be awarded to those who appear to have scammed people multiple times, the long-time pin scammers. By doing this, you are not only eliminating their chances to scam, but you are also creating awareness for those new members.
I would suggest that TWC be done by, Globals (if they have time), Market Mods or a specifically designed TWC mod. Whos job it is to sniff out those untrustworthy and scamming members of sythe.
Solution 3: Verified Pin Shops
This solution is able to get rid of a few pin scammers, but mainly to show whos trusted and whos not. It can also fix the demand and pricing on pins.
This is taken from my other site, www.no-wai.org.
The solution is: Verified Pin Stalls. We at sythe have a decent amount of trusted pin sellers, these pin sellers are put in with all the other pin sellers, and often dont stand out. The result is that new comers can't tell the difference between the trusted and untrusted people. If we were to have a verified pin seller section, totally locked off for new threads, where a mod could move the very trusted pin sellers thread, then the new comers would be able to see hows trustworthy, and who is the best to buy from. The glory of the verified pin stall, infact, is that it encourages good pin sellers. If people are seen as good pin sellers, they are able to raise their prices and get more customers, it gives pin sellers a good goal and a good reward for their work. It also means people can charge what pins are worth.
And after all, who are the people getting scammed the most and end up complaining that sythe is such a bad place? The new-comers that come here for membership.
You may be asking now... How can we tell if someone is trustworthy enough for a verified pin stall?
I have thought of a way to determine this. Much like the Official MM app. And it is: (note this is a very rough sketch)
- 20/25/30 pins sold successfully
- No faked vouches
- No OR FEW suspect trades
- 30 or so vouches
- A vouche from a more trusted member (like the official MM one)
By this we are able to determine whether they deserve a verified pin stall or not
