Permanent Participation Miniranks

Actually you're completely right. After reading what you just wrote and looking all the little badges near the top right hand side of your postbit template I'm going to assume those are mini-ranks.

I thought you were talking about the ranks that are customizable through donations that are under usernames in the postbit template. I believe some admins and mods have special ones to indicate they are admins or mods, and then there is also random ones like "pirate", ect that are currently very rare.

And I thought you were talking about making one of those for people who reached 1000 posts in a certain thread and having specific and different ones for each thread. Which would in my opinion, devalue them.

Those little badges in the upper right of your postbit didn't even exist when I joined sythe and in my opinion aren't really that outstanding or unique in the first place. And if there is already the ability to get four rows of them then I don't see any harm in making more. Sounds like the more "mini-ranks" to unlock the longer people would work to try to get them, which would increase participation.

So you're right I completely mistook what you were talking about I didn't know those things existed yet as something official prior to reading your above post.

As already mentioned, once someone does eventually acquire the 1,000 posts in a particular section, that activity will cease to exist.

People are doing anything for miniranks these day...right Syed?

Once someone posts 1000 times their activity will cease to exist? They took months posting and being incredibly active for a minirank, just to stop posting completely? Tell me, which encourages activity more. Getting 15 posts for a one week minirank, or getting 1000 for one that you can hold onto.

 

I like the idea, however 1000 posts in a specific section will take most users years, if not more.

 

Yeah, it can be any threshold. Even sustained activity. 50 posts a month for 6 months, etc. 500 posts etc.

And nobody will get 1k pc just for a minirank, chances are if you can post 1k times in a section you actually like it and aren't just going to stop.

 

What I mean is, I don't think people will care for it just for a minirank, unless the minirank is out of this world or something. I like the idea, I'm all for it, just thinking out-loud I guess. Me personally, I don't need a minirank to make me post/active, and those that do, do you think they will do it for one minirank?

 

I think mini-ranks from since I've joined, are exclusive and should remain that way, meaning only insane amount of things can be done for the permanent like, 500 posts, 1000, posts, 1500 posts, and they don't stack, they just upgrade into the other version of it. So you can't have 3 of the post ones, just 1 but upgraded versions, like the 500 be like a bronze star or something, then 1k be silver, then 2k be gold or however you want it to be. maybe other mini rank ideas can be, poster of the month, most posts in 1 month, i don't know.

Doubt it, people easily have 1k posts in the spam forum, and i've done at least 1k in Off Topic. (having lost 2.5k PC, remember that).

 

Seems like a nice reward for long-term participation. Gold borders are awesome

Doesn't mean you have to still be active there, means you've posted a lot.

Also, you shouldn't start it now. I know it's to increase activity, but some of us have things going on. Many users go through phases where they can't be online a lot, and you should reward the old members for their past contributions, not just show them new things that they've already completed and say "do it again to be like the cool kids!"

Telling Gohan to go post more for a rank? ehhhhh.

Roary has stated my thoughts on this. No one is going to post 1k times for some mini rank and then stop their posting. Think of it as weight lifting...Weight lilfters are always trying to get to their next goal. For example, say the bench press 250 pounds but want to get to 300...They're going to push themselves to get there. However, once they get there, they're not going to just completely stop lifting. They have a desire for it so are going to continue and keep gaining.

That's how I see this. Reward them with a goal for being very active.

 

I agree with that. It shouldn't even be that hard to implement.

 

If the mini-ranks were perm people would not bother posting once they get it

At least I see that happening but I might be too cynical

 

If they have posted that much in that section already, they are not going to completely cease posting in said section because obviously they like that section unless they are some completely sad waste of space.
