OGV - Possibly Return? Your Expectations.

What would you expect of the OGV team?
To test and verify that a guide is legit in a relatively timely manner.

Who would you like to see in the OGV team? Just moderators, Mods+Trusted Users?
Mods, specifically market mods. Certain trusted users would be nice to include as well, but that depends heavily on the user. I might have objections to a mass gold farmer verifying guides that he could potentially use to drive his business forward, for example.

Do you think the current system works (users being able to post a review on a guide)?
Yes and no. It's nice but it makes buying a guide somewhat of a daunting task. There are all sorts of stupid guides out there that are really just common sense so you wind up waiting for someone to buy the guide before you do, so that you can see their review. There's also the problems with people posting fake reviews from second accounts. I think an official verification system would be more efficient.

Should we keep the old OGV members or re-introduce applications for everyone to re-try?
Definitely re-try everyone. Just because someone was good at something in the past doesn't mean they will be now. Yeah consider previous OGV team members but don't just automatically bring everyone back.

Do you think the ability to post a review of a guide should still be allowed with OGV?
Yes. One person may have an entirely different opinion of a guide. It's like reading product reviews online. You don't just look at the first review and assume it's all accurate, do you? Having more than one opinion can help better shape the overall worth of a product.

 

Hmm - I'm not going to vote yet, but will verification be for RS only guides?

Because currently, ebooks, idk how you plan to verify someone's "Story"

 

Do you realize how stupid that sounds? Nothing was wrong with the old OGV's, a new test system was implanted. Without that system taken into place, none of our OGV's would be different (for the most part).

I think you are being a little biased here, bringing back just all of the old members is just like a big eff you to everyone else. There are members out there who would like their chance, I have to agree with whoever said it needs to be a perpetual application process bringing in new members when qualified applications pop up and apply.

 

Thinking of the entire OGV team, I can't think of one person who wasn't suitable and extremely qualified for the job (leaving myself out of this, as clearly biased).

 

If you referring to the second question then I meant to say mods and trusted users, I read the question quickly.

 

How am i being biased???????? The system they have SUCKS, so they're looking to bring back their old stronger system, which included the past OGV's that were working just fine, the only reason they are not OGVs atm is because of the new system. Why the hell should they put up more apps if just around a week before the update, they had already picked out new ogv's?? You guys already had your chance to apply literally a week before the new system was implanted.
Like i said, most people on here are only asking to bring back OGV's again because they were denied and are looking for another way to try and let them on the OGV team.

Just so you all know, I was never an OGV.

 

You'd just check that it had the same amount of pages that they promise, same chapters, etc. The OGV may even write a short review on the grammar, diction, and overall value of the eBook (in his personal opinion)

 

Yes bring them back, and have them do their job so I dont get annoying pms about guides =)

Reviews and verification should both be present.

 

Dude calm the hell down. I never said I had all the answers. They asked for feedback from the member base and I felt like giving my input. Just because you don't agree with something doesn't mean it's automatically stupid.

I never said there was anything wrong with the old OGV team. I didn't even know most of them, considering I'm relatively new here. How can I recommend someone that I didn't know? Don't be stupid now... I'm positive there's at least one or two of the old OGVers that wouldn't qualify now. What's the big deal about putting them through the same tests or whatever they had to go through the last time?

To put it in perspective for you:
Let's say you are trying to get a job, it's safe to assume that you will be interviewed to see if you qualify for the position. Time goes by, and you're laid off for whatever reason. Some time later, you decide to look for another (similar) job. By your logic, since you've already been interviewed once before, you shouldn't have to be interviewed again.

Also, if you really want to know, I don't think it should be application. I feel like they should be appointed rather than self nominated. But hey, if you just want to label me as stupid without knowing anything about me, go ahead :laugh:. Just trying to help out.

 

The thing is though, they folded the OGV's to try the new system, and now that we are going back to the OLD system presumably it would make sense to have the old members.
Nomination would be stupid imo, because it would be a popularity contest.

If it was as simple as just reinstating them they wouldn't even be asking for input other than "yes/no". They obviously want to revise them in some way to make it a more efficient system.

The things I listed are just my honest opinion about the situation given my limited knowledge of the old system and the new system that I've had some experience with. It's completely subjective, so my opinion will obviously differ from someone else's.

I vote No, because of the following/
Guides or "eBooks" can be quickly verified by a sectional moderator. It generally would take the same time for the guide writer to get in contact with a mod than a OGV.
Also; if you do reintroduce them, your just going to pick the same people again.

Diverse, Trusted users. The ogv team, in my thoughts, was suppose to be a Sythe-user run system.

Deffinetly dont hire the same people again, if you do reintroduce the OGV system, bring in new, fresh faces.

If sectionals have to verify it all then it becomes just a chore on the mods plate, giving Users direct responsibilities will improve this community and could even give us good mod candidates for the future.

Experienced Active Users > Inexperienced, surely? we want an efficient system. And we're not sure who we're choosing as of yet.

Impossible, staff need to be on the team, and it is a Sythe user ran system, I am a sythe user

Elaborate? Alot of users do not think it does.

The last system brought in new faces, but at the end of the day we cant just choose any new randomer because we need a degree of trust in the users with all these guides.

What they had to do before, I felt like it worked EXTREMELY well and fluid. verify or deny all guides within 72 hours.

Moderators plus trusted users, as it was before. We obviously need a few moderators to move the guides around, lock guides, edit stickies, and having a few dedicated trusted members as well helps.

No, someone can get their friend Billy from down the street to post some amazing review for a guide they ripped off some other website. The guide may live up to the hype, and no one is going to google the guide to see if it's ripped so this person is getting away with scamming others.

OGV bias I guess, but our old team was perfect. Why fix it if it's not broken.
Despite this though, I'm not heavily opposed to applications again, but like I said why fix it if it's not broken.

Like, other non-OGV's post reviews? No. Someone can choose not to get their guide verified, or to just get some random user to "review" their guide for them. If we're going to have OGV's back, we shouldn't have reviews as well.

 

Maybe bring back the old team,and bring in some new members. A lot can happen in the space of time between the OGV apps, as I believe I had nearly 120 vouches when it was open last time, yet I've managed 200 now, and I don't trade as much as some people. Just because people are new to sythe, some who may not have been around for the last OGV apps, doesn't mean they are as capable.

Before anyone says you blatantly want it, I would apply, but I wouldn't be bothered if I got denied, as there are a lot more deserving people.
