New Sticky About Recovery Tests

Agreed. I think some people get a false sense of security with them. They are not only useless but time consuming, so I don't see why we don't let users know this.

 

personly I dislike the idea of recovery tests I would simply not buy from somebody if not trusted enough or if I dident deem the risk worth it

recovery tests can cause accounts to be banned for being a *contested account* I have had this happen when buying a account and I still lost what I payed because technicaly I received the account

 

Support, recovery tests only make things worse, more likely to get an account locked and cause confusion and false feeling of safety.

Also when people buy an account and want to use a middleman for the purchase is pure nonsense (unless the account is being resold and the reseller is not trusted while the original owner is) as you shouldn't even be buying an account in the first place if you don't feel safe enough to go through without a middleman. In the end it will most likely be that you lost the account + the middleman fee (if any).

 

Still not sure why this isn't implemented, they are indeed useless/waste of time.

bump. I still think this need to be more clearly stated in the account market where the information on it belongs.

 

Support, being in the account sales market it is very frustrating to have to explain to the buyer that recovery test doesn't do much for them, but most have this false hope of it being the ultimate sign of legitimacy.

There are still many threads about users wondering about account recovery and recovery tests in rs general all the time. People are obviously searching for the information. Why isn't it available in the MARKET SECTION?

 

I'm sureeee you've seen someone ask for a recovery test in the last month cmon.

 

I get asked to do them once or twice a week.

 

I'm thinking this along with some sort of amalgamation of the information in the MM forum would be prudent

 

For now I just edited the title of the sticky in the MM section since it was a 1 second fix. I think that most people who request recovery tests already know that the account can still be recovered though.

 

It's actually the opposite. The majority of people who ask about it don't know, or assume changing the email and adding 2FA makes it unrecoverable by the original owner.

 

So far the only complaints i've seen is that it's a waste of time because nobody reads stickies and that most people hopefully should know this without being told..... Not a great practice to turn down anything based on those reasons alone right?? The pros clearly outweigh the cons, so i think we may be overthinking this a little to much. I will even offer to write the sticky, but as you can see my grammar and spelling isn't top notch.

 

bump still see people who think they are responsible by requesting these still all the time. People need to be properly explained to that these recovery tests are 100% useless.

 

I totally support this. Honestly, only accounts that are unregistered are safe to buy. Other than that.. you're screwed if the owner decides to be a douchebag

 

Seeming as a title change and renovation can't hurt, I've changed all the stickies mentioning it to:

Accounts are ALWAYS recoverable, even with a Middleman/Recovery Test!
