The sympathy from the community was great and there were many of us willing to help and to waste our time as well as your time with a shenanigan like this is sad. I don't see how Sythe could or would approve a thing like this, I mean you could be clearing spam/scam reports or actively looking for scammers who are currently perpetrating scams.

 

Not entirely too sure what this exactly accomplished, as the only name on that list that I recognize is TTB. Interested to see his rebuttle if he decides to dispute, but I too am not a big fan of this publicity stunt.

 

Corey with all due respect, this sting operation doesn't necessarily mean for a second that those users would have scammed, this was a very obvious way of tricking them into *looking* like they would scam.

When someone says "msn hacked, paying back those who are scammed", your likely to attract even the legit newcomer to sythe who wouldnt normally be bothered scamming, but is hit over the head with a situation that might give him some easy money for simply saying he was scammed and throwing a screenshot togethor, I think that's the case especially with Time to buy.

However listening to Voltdax complain about being scammed for 2.5B and then have this come out is pure lulz.

No, Arcus, those people who posted sought to gain profit from someone who had been hacked. That is blatantly and shamelessly self-serving at the expense of others.

We don't want users who seek to extort others for personal gain, especially when they are in need, on our site. No matter what spin you put on it, it is scamming.

 

But the staff was dishonest, like its been said.. people were willing to waste their time and GP/money to help n4n0, people felt bad and felt sorry for n4n0. :S

 

Surprised this worked again >.< The sting was a bit obvious, since staff would never actively seek scam claims against a mod for this very reason.

I am adamantly opposed to this move and I am extremely displeased with the staff as whole. I am seriously questioning if the current staff possesses the maturity to lead Sythe into 2012 and beyond.

Yes I understand that I am acting as a dissenting voice but I believe that I am fully rational and speaking with the best of Sythe.org at heart. I am a $500 donor and I spend more than 12 hours on the site everyday.

Dishonesty is terrible even if the results may be "good." Unfortunately, I can't even say that the results were admirable.

 

I do not want a reward or any sort of payment or even recognition for offering to help.

I offered to help because I was genuinely torn up imagining the hell n4n0 must be going through, having to pay back billions on billions of GP. I have never, ever, handled anything near that amount on RS and I would be so stressed and overwhelmed if I was in his position and had my whole reputation on Sythe at stake. I just honestly felt so bad about what happened to n4n0, and like I stated in my previous post, I am now feeling duped and like I was lied to. Even if that lie was for "the greater good" of the Sythe community as a whole.

Viou made a valid point about feeling like he cannot trust the staff after this incident. I would have to say that I am feeling the same right now.

 

Well honestly at first i was like 'OMG LOL'

But after thinking about it reading the 4 pages and think about the 8-10 pages i've already read this is kind of dumb. We just got a ton of people rilled up going crazy, sad throwing emotions out everywhere to ban 10 randomers who probably couldnt of scammed anyone and pretty much set up one of the people we do know. I agree if he asked for a reimbursement he should be banned. Yes its entrapment you helped him make a case he thought was legitament in order for him to gain funds. Oh well he shouldn't of done it. But honestly 14 pages of text to get one guy ? Cmon. Realistic thinking.

Edit - i was legitely Chargedback via WU for 950$ and recently scammed for $1210 via Wells fargo instant transfer if i posted something like this and got 10 pages of text am i aloud to take the donations? Just wondering.

 

True but atleast they didnt just ban the users that "lied"

Don't even get me started on the dishonesty of the staff that I've witnessed in just a year of intense activity. I'm not quite sure when I'd stop.

That would be corruption not dishonest. The fact they spent the time fabricating a lie, and getting people to believe they had a case is sad. Although, I do agree.. that they intentions where good, the tactic used was not.

 

Obviously this was the plan.

I was following the original thread and I was shocked at how many people came forward claiming they where scammed. Glad you weren't actually hacked, could have lost a lot of money having to pay people back.

 

I completely agree. It seemed cute at first, but once I started thinking about it, I really agree with Viou. This has been nothing but abuse of power, which is something i've never observed on this site. I've always thought that our staff were kind of like the ordinary users. Not to say that I am not disappointed with Time to Buy and some other users, but the whole thing was inappropriate on both sides.
