I grew up in one country and lived there for 12 years, moved to the states and was absolutely devastated for at least a couple years. I've lived here for 13 years and all the sudden, I'm moving back..

I hate having to leave good friends of many years. I had to rebuild from the bottom with regards to friends. It's an upsetting thought and quite honestly, it sucks having to leave everyone behind and it sucks even more that I have to do it twice.

Anyone else been through the same thing? Suggestions to cope?

I haven't been through the same thing, however, I have friends who have.

In their experience, it's not really too bad. It also depends where you're moving to. Are you moving to a country that similar to the states? If so, it will be easier. If not, it will be a bit harder. However, through my friends' experiences, they've stated that social media has really helped them stay connected with their friends and with an open mind, they've made new friends relatively fast. Also keep in mind that if your heart lies in the United States, you can always move back when you start working.

Hey thanks for taking your time to reply. I guess you are right. When I first moved here social media wasnt really as big as it was so it was kinda hard to keep track of everyone.

It should be a little better now considering (who doesn't use social media!?) I'm moving to Hong Kong for work; previously lived there for 12 years. Polar opposites of the states. I guess I really just gotta suck it up and make new friends once again.. It just sucks.

Hong Kong is a super fun place. My friends have studied abroad there and some even want to move there in the future.

Also, if you and your friends are into gaming (which I assume you are since you're on Sythe) you can always game together over discord or skype to keep in touch.

Yeah you've got a good point. Just gotta work around the 12 hour time difference so we may catch each other couple hours a day to catch up.

    Moving countries

I have lived in 4 different countries.
I lived in the UK until I was 18 then I decided I wanted a change and moved to Germany, then to Poland, and then onto Spain.
Where I have been living for the past 4 and half years or so.

I still talk to my friends on a weekly basis and see them at Christmas / whenever they come to visit me.

I guess it depends where you are moving to and how much the culture / language differs to where you are at the moment. And also on your age & if you are moving back on your own or with family.

It sounds strange but I actually made a lot of friends through dating websites and through couchsurfing as well - not necessarily hosting or staying at people's places, just going to the meetups.

If you need any help feel free to pm me :)

Thank you for taking your time to respond. I will most definitely go out and meet people as well as uploading pics for everybody to see. :)

    Why don't you just stay?

Based on what you said, you would be 25 years old, free to decide for yourself.

Yeah I really want to. I have family over there though, specifically my grandmother that doesn't have very much time left so I figured I should be there ya feel?

Sure, but this doesn't address the issue at hand. I would visit, but not move.

You are at the prime of your life, and you should be living it for you, not for your family. I would suggest laying some foundation and actually starting your own life.
