MM's Not allowed to Vouch Traders

I completely agree with the suggestion. I do think, however, it's fine if a MM posts something along the lines of, MM'd trade for so and so, everything went smooth.

The thing I ABSOLUTELY HATE is when an OMM posts something like the following:

Random Official Middleman said:
MMed 400m trade for these two, trusted, very legit.

In my opinion the OMM is being very misleading, and if that user turns out to scam someone, the OMM should be held responsible.

Why would the OMM be held responsible for having posted a vouch?

Lol, not many mm's vouch anyway, even if you ask them ( Telling from experience, used mm quite few times )

Why would the OMM be held responsible for having posted a vouch?

Because they are blatantly misleading other members, whether it's intentionally or not. What need is there for a MM to post that both members are trusted, or legit, when both members weren't trusted with anything. And half the time, MMs make the vouch sound like they personally traded with the member versus only MMing the trade for them. Then those same people use those vouches and say they're vouched by mods or OMMs and scam people.

MMs have no business vouching anyone, unless they're actually trading another member. Period.

It still takes trust to hand over your belongings to another person without ransom regardless of whether they are an OMM or not.

Yes, that's why the traders vouch the mms...

I am not reading through everyone's comments on this.. but, I don't support this. A vouch is basically saying that person being vouched for did a successful trade, it's up the omm or who ever vouching to vouch or not. If they mm'ed the traade then they was in the trade transaction and witnessed him/her being legit.

Don't want to let this die, I think it's a good idea and could possibly lead to some users who intend to scam without twice as many vouches.

No support.

The MM has vouched for overseeing a successful trade. Would I agree that MMs are not allowed to vouch for $ figures, sure if you like.

However I do NOT agree that they are not allowed to vouch for the fact that a successful trade has indeed taken place.

This is a difficult one to answer for myself. I think overall there are more cons than pros when a MM vouches so I would say there is not a need for an MM to vouch.

Many new users cannot tell the difference. Before I joined this forum I to be honest didn't even know what a MM or OMM was, and I don't think some kid who googled "Cheap Runescape gold" and makes an account here will, or at least enough to comprehend the difference between "Vouch for *** I MM'd a Trade for him" and "Vouch for *** I traded with him" as they are both "vouches".

I don't believe in bending to accommodate 'those' type of people if you will.

People learn from their mistakes, it's called 'habituation'. I was scammed twice when I first joined Sythe. I learnt from my mistakes, and will never be scammed again.

Support, tired of people with 1 trade getting 3x the vouches...

The mm should BE vouched, not giving them out...
The traders can vouch eachother.

No support. The MM should be entitled to vouch whoever they deem trusted. If I am doing a trade between too people, and it goes successfully, where I deem both traders respectable and trusted, I'm well within my rights to vouch for them, as I'd request they do for me.

Those people are the people who are the future Moderators, giant Pin sellers, OMM's etc. Everyone is new at once, and not all people lurk for a bit before joining, or memorize the rules. A lot of people have the illusion that scams don't occur, and that since they sent them their money that they will get their gold. I see people all of the time saying "Yeah, he is on vacation, he told me to get his order in and when he gets back I'll get my gold" or stuff a long those lines. Someone posted something similar to what you said so I'm going to quote you what I told them.

Yeah, but you know what isn't left to the ignorance of the newcomer? The ability to scam.

Billy comes to Sythe to buy 100m. He gets ripped of by Bob because Bob had inflated vouches and pressured Billy into going first because he was "trusted". Billy loses $100, Bob runs off with his money and gets off scott free, besides a measly ban from Sythe.

Billy is now pissed, he doesn't realize that there is a solid community on Sythe, he just knows he can get his gold / money back just like Bob did to him. Billy either can inflate his vouches by buying 5m, or small trades like that and pressure a new user into buying from him like he did, or just claim back his money.

This is really what this is trying to solve. It seems like a very simple fix to some of these problems. It's not going to fix scamming or much in general, but if a few people are helped by this suggestion / rule then it is worth it to be honest.

Now I'm not saying this happens all of the time, and to every user being scammed. Even older users who get scammed I assume will scam back to try and "break even" so to say.

I never vouch when I MM a trade considering no trust is exhibited by either participant (such is the point of using a MM). I think that it is reckless to vouch as a MM, but technically speaking, you're still entitled to vouch anybody you deem worthy.

I disagree with paving the way for ignorance and people un wanting to learn.

Your scenario:

Billy learns a life lesson.
Billy is not a fit member of Sythe, having those retaliatory intentions.

I got scammed earlier on in Sythe, was I enraged, sure. But it was my fault. I learned from it. I even got scammed again, by God according to your scenario I most definitely must scam someone?

My personality is not that of a scammers. Billy's was, and Sythe does not support scammers, regardless of whether they are retaliatory.

It's like those people holding children crossing signs. All it does is promote children that only follow. It's all good and well that the children won't get hit, but when that safeguard is taken away, he will blindly run across the road without looking either way because someone else does it for him, and he has learnt this as a fixed action pattern. He will then be hit by a car.

Paving the way for people IS NOT the solution, we have stickies in place, numerous safeguards already, and if people want to ignore them then that is there problem.

The difference was that you recognized what Sythe has to offer to say the least. That scamming wasn't the way, and that building up trust would earn you WAY more then one could earn in a scam. The endless ways to profit despite the occasional chargeback. The great community and even the CA section (/highfive, your application looks great) but others don't, especially when first joining.

New users are probably used to systems that are like "feedback" like ebay, or other forums (See PBNation, love their system). The closest thing we have to that is vouches, which technically are signs of trust. A vouch is something that we'd find in a MM thread, like yours or mine, but it has evolved into something that we have in our vouch thread saying "Vouch for *** we swapped accounts" and then we count them all up, and stick that number in our signatures and say "245356256 Vouches" and stuff like that. What this is trying to do is make a vouch = a trade, not to protect new users although I feel if this happens it would greatly.
