In my opinion I believe that it seems so socially unacceptable by many people just because church and religion are so against this act.

It's not only church, pretty much anyone could think incest is wrong. Because in their minds, family is not suppose to have relations with each other.

you already said that charles darwin said why marry a stranger. yeah he married his kids, then they all got sick. marrying people you are related to kinda messes up the kids immune system i thought.. could be wrong. however everyone is related somehow, so in the begininning and awhile ago it was tottaly fine to marry in the family (also to keep the money in the family) but however if the church says its unnatural that brings up an interesting point. if it is legalized then another so called unatural thing should be legalized..

Universal you say? But havent many ancient cultures seen it fit to marry a sibling/relative? Going back to the Greek God's, who were all one large family with brothers sleeping with their sisters not bring an example of incest as a normal thing?

I guess the fact the possibility of inferior off spring does arise from the situation of incestuous relations
