I agree with most of you guys. Microsoft > Apple when it comes to PC's.

The new MacBook Air: 80 GB HD, No CD Drive, Leopard, $1800

    Macs = Fail.
I could seriously get a laptop with Windows better for $500. I don't care if it's light weight and small, but honestly, $1800 is a SCAM!

Plus, Mac's, in themselves, are hardly compatible with any programs. Granted, you could use a virtual PC, but why? Mac's suck...plain and simple.

Okay, so, if you're too computer illiterate to operate Windows without causing it to crash, then use a Mac. When's the last time I had a BSOD? Months ago, and that was one that I generated myself using CrashOnCtrlScroll (which is intended by Microsoft to manually create crashdumps: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/244139).
    Okay, I'll give you that.

If you mean iChat, iCalendar, and the rest of the iLife suite - that's not a part of the OS, it just comes bundled with OS X. Do a clean install and you'll find that iLife isn't there.

As for it being integrated, that's pretty much a given seeing how it's all part of the same software bundle. I'll let you have that, but with Office 2003 or even with msimn (the standard Microsoft Outlook that's part of Windows), the address book is part of the email program. So I can't see how email and address books (the example you gave) can get more integrated than that.

Although I'm sure that iLife is quite seamlessly integrated, most professionally made Windows software bundles (Office, Visual Studio, etc) are too.

I wasn't really responding to you on that one, I was directing that to anyone who might have said that OS X beats Windows in terms of security. Sorry, should've made that more clear. As for Quicktime, I don't use it, even on Windows, so I can't judge.

Not according to the netcraft uptime report.
Because if it was, they would at least call Mac OS X Server so that when people check the site uptime they would at least look like they thought their own server operating system was worth using? Also, why wouldn't they use Mac OS X Server for their own site? Why must they rely on some customized OS they make for their own use rather than their flagship server operating system?

Then that's probably a huge percentage of the population that should be switching to Macs. :/
iCal and rest of the iLife suite...
I did not bring up a single iLife app in that statement. Mail, iChat, iCal, and the Address book come with Leopard. Besides every single Mac you buy comes with iLife installed anyways. And the "clean install" disks they give you do indeed install iLife.

They don't come with the OS. And because the address book is part of the program, other programs have difficulty integrating with it. And now apparently in Vista, Microsoft has decided to separate the three, but they still don't have the integration that OS X does.

Maybe because they have special needs. And I saw the report and some parts of their site are hosted by OS X Server. Also Apple tends to be a somewhat secretive company, so I wouldn't be surprised if they decided to keep the OS X server labeled as "unknown".

Uhm... I find the 'Windows crashes a lot' belief complete BS - I was getting at the fact that Windows isn't crash-prone unless the user does something stupid to cause it to crash. My school's servers and website, and ALL student workstation computers are Windows, there are never any crashes, BSODs, etc. (http://toolbar.netcraft.com/site_report?url=webberacademy.ca)

Also, 99% of my friend's laptops run Windows and I'm quite sure they've never experienced trouble with the OS itself or any Microsoft-made software with them. They bring them to school frequently so I can come to that conclusion by general observation.

When trouble does arise with Windows in general, it usually involves badly configured hardware or badly coded software - and if the software is made by Microsoft, Sun, Blizzard, Valve, or any other decent company and it's not a beta/release candidate, it shouldn't give you any trouble.

Well the i___ prefix is misleading. I hadd read on XvsXP that OS X doesn't include iLife in a clean install so that's what I was basing that claim on.

Correction: Office doesn't come on the Vista/XP CDs that you buy in stores. Nearly all PC manufacturers include Office with Windows.

Visual Studio Express is a free download from the MSDN website.

Surely their server operating system can handle whatever those "special needs" might be.

    http://www.apple.com/server/macosx/features/webhosting.html

Apparently you can run the most sophisticated of websites. It's also 50% faster than OS X Tiger, so why shouldn't it be able to handle the high traffic of Apple's website?

Ya you have to buy seperatly and that would damage the cool looks of your mac you spent 1k+ on.

Final Cut pfft no home based movie editor would get that only if you were making money off it at the price tag of $1,200.

Your mac cant touch this coolness

Aww... stupid thing timed out so now i have to retype it T.T
I never said Windows crashes frequently. However, in my experience it does crash more than OS X. At my school we have both Macs and PC's and I have to say that the Macs outperform the PC's even though neither of them crash often (it's usually the PC's though):/

Lol, well that's kinda true. But if you buy a new mac, the OS install CD's they include also install iLife. But if you buy an OS separately it doesn't come with iLife. (But this isn't really a problem because iLife is already installed on pretty much every modern mac.)
Lol. and to futher add to your confusion, there's also iWork which has Pages, Numbers, and Keynote. Although I must admit Office is much better than Pages and Numbers, in their respective programs, but Keynote is better than powerpoint.

I'm pretty sure I said Office DOESN'T come with the OS. And my PC manufacturer only included an Office Trial. The average user has almost no use for Visual Studio Express.

I'll have to admit that I don't know much about webhosting. However, I'll say this: Perhaps apple is testing new features on the Server but they don't want to brand it as OS X yet to avoid suspicion.

@wtp: I use final cut for my Video Film class (not for random home-based projects):/
lol, that video is Compiz Fusion which I have tried and I just wrote in the box you quoted me from. And that Aero is just butt-ugly. Perhaps you haven't seen OS X Leopard's UI in action? About the mouse, Apple computers (Desktops) come with mighty mice (dumb name, but yeah) which have all the functionality of PC mice and do not look like a hockey puck in any way. And although my laptop's trackpad has one button, the multitouch allows me to scroll with 2 fingers as well as right click with two fingers+regular click.

My windows has never crashed...The only people who use Mac's are the people who don't know how to keep a computer clean. You guys are simply retards when it comes to computers, sorry. And that's fact.

Wow... thanks for stereotyping people. I use Macs and I don't just look at photos, watch movies and music. I do video editing and compositing, web graphics, as well as a ton of my homework to boot. I've also messed around with Eclipse (java, for my AP Comp Sci Class) which is a tool for programmers.

Macs are not exactly useless when they get old. In fact, PC's are the ones that tend to become more useless as they age: http://machinist.salon.com/feature/2007/11/07/mac_price/index.html
    http://www.macnn.com/articles/07/11/08/macs.cheaper.than.pcs/

Linux is not necessarily for Uber people. I do not consider myself an "Uber person" yet I've used linux before. Furthermore, I do no believe that it takes an "Uber person" to use linux at all (especially if the distro is Ubuntu, SUSE, or Fedora).

Yeah... the site is down a lot >_>

Eh. G5 processors are pretty fast, though I don't think they're the fastest processors in the world. Although I stand by my belief about PC crashes being the result of PEBKAC users.

    Ah, right.

Yeah, I just said it doesn't come with the OS - but OEM (original equipment manufacturer) Windows Editions usually do include either Office or MS Works. (Those are the Windows installations which computer companies (eMachines, IBM, Dell, Compaq, etc) bundle a bunch of stuff into.)

That may have been a good guess... if those 'unknown' operating systems hadn't been present there for the past year. <_<

lol, I wonder what type of server it's on.

Well a lot of the computers in the lab, including mine are macs, and they use the Intel Core 2 Duo (my laptop) and Intel Xeon chipsets (School Macs) chipset. (Although some of the older macs in the school lab still use G5s)
I do agree that most crashes are due to user errors, most users are prone to mistakes.

I got MS Works with my PC (which really sucks) and unfortunately in my experience 90% of the stuff the comps come bundled with is either junk or trial software. :/

Well they could always be updating... Lol it's not as if there are version numbers there.

EDIT: I missed fairyfrank and purepwnage's comments above
I brought up the backlight, because someone earlier in the thread stated that it wasted power. And you melodramatic response isn't helpful in supporting your point in any way whatsoever.-.-

But there are people that do care about how small it is. There is a reason it became it's own separate line instead of replacing the regular macbook. And show me a better Windows laptop for $500.
Macs are technically compatible with any PC program, and with programs like Parallels you can run Windows with 90% performance within OS X, and with boot camp, you can run Windows directly.

Both of those have crap specs. My macbook is cheaper than the first one, and smaller with better specs (i bumped up the RAM on mine): http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?family=MacBook

And the second one from best buy just sucks in terms of specs.

Are you kidding me? That's a 1.6 GHz Pentium Dual Core.
A macbook is 2.0 GHz Core 2 Duo at the very least as of now.

Hard drives and memory are easily upgraded by the user--and it isn't that expensive either. And maybe the iMac your cousin has is a PowerPC iMac. Those are slow, but ever since they moved to Intel and used the Core 2 Duo/Xeon chipsets, they are just as fast as PCs. And I can vouch that a fresh install of OS X is faster than a fresh install of Windows on the same hardware. And as the time goes, Windows becomes progressively slower while OS X still maintains the same performance.
