How do you prove it wasn't done by a vBulletin exploit?

    Let me also add;

You ought to never, under any circumstances award a member a donation rank equal to what they were scammed if the scammer falls under the clause of being hi-jacked during the time of the offense.

Doing so could potentially mean others could be at risk as a person who has been scammed cannot be trusted and should therefore not be given any trust in order to try to get back what was stolen, even if reputable.

People can't be trusted in situations like these, because we do not know how that person would react to something like this happening to them.

    I have no idea.

I was under the impression that Administrators were aware whether or not a vBulletin exploit was the case.

I don't think it's possible to pinpoint whether it was caused by exploit. We just assume so because it's active.

So why is this the case in the scam report presented in the OP?

    Sorry, pardon.

Assumption I guess. If the IP changes, we'll just go along with it.

When you think about it, it's incredibly easy to fake a hacking, but the deterrent in doing so is that you're held liable.

    It's a catch 22.

Yeah, if it isn't possible to identify whether or not a person has been hacked due to a vBulletin exploit, it would also mean you cannot introduce such a system.

I think we should just leave everything the way it is. If a person has been hacked and people have been scammed, they need to be held accountable, as ultimately - one's account security is one's self responsibility, whether or not this is due to an exploit, 2FA is there to prevent this from happening in it's entirety.

Unfortunately this is the best way about going about it, but the situation is currently being discussed in sl so we'll see what happens.

or you could just enable 2fa and accept responsibility for your own negligence. Regardless of whether a hacked was due to an exploit or not, you will never be able to correctly determine how a user was hacked. Stop being so simple minded and enable 2FA to prevent such an occurrence from happening.

I love the chain of thought.

Hey guys, can I just make a kind of "logic" post here that I cant believe didn't get made already.

2fa to my knowledge was released at the VERY END of 2013, basically 2014.
    http://www.sythe.org/sythe-org-news/1652660-two-factor-authentication-now-available.html

If you notice, most of these hackings were pre users having the 2fa option lol.

I think this is an important point, I mean how can u blame people for not having 2fa enabled when it didn't EXIST WHEN THEY USED SYTHE?

Seriously, makes absolutely 0 sense, Anyone after 2014 sure okay, 2fa should of been enabled.

But lugging every user into this "they should have had 2fa enabled" mindset is just a poor choice lol, some users legitimately probably don't even know 2fa exists.

    LolSmurfin got hacked this year.

    http://www.sythe.org/report-scammer-archive/1810711-lolsmurfin-430m-07-scam.html

He's fully aware of the existence of 2fa, and has seen many users hacked post introduction of 2fa.

Can you give an example of someone being hacked due to a vBulletin exploit pre introduction of 2fa?

The current way of handling these issues are the best way. Any other way creates more problems, and puts more users at risk. It's sad to say, but this is the truth.

It doesn't get any more clear than this.

How about some form of remote two factor authentication system where every sythe account is linked to a 2FA Bot that automatically sends an alert to the registered e-mail whenever an unrecognized IP address is used to log onto an account, as well as authentication codes for the login when the ip is recognized?

Did he also tell you ive tried making large payments to him as well? On several occasions i offered him large amounts of gold. He refused due to his gambling addictions. At the time of this i had taken 4 or 5 loans exceeding 1,000.00 at a time. I paid every single one of them off with in days sometimes. This last loan was for several accounts being recovered and large amounts of money needed to be repaid. At the time i didnt have the money to refund users. TTB wanted me to take a additional loan from him to pay these users off and make payments to him. I actually refused at first. TTB told me not to worry about it and that it was fine. Eventually i agreed to the loan and paid the users back. Dragondyce fell shortly afterwards. (Say what you want but dragondyce was a large portion of my income. I was making thousands sometimes weekly). I tried using what money i had left to join 07 commission staking. I knew how much users were making daily. Unfortunately staking was removed 2 weeks after i bought in for 800m 07.(2.3/m@ the time) Now you might ask why i didnt just pay him the money then? Well my thinking was to use the money i had to make more money. It worked several times in ddyce and i knew the profits from 07 commission staking were even better. Shit blew up in my face thats for sure. Shortly after this happened my sythe account was hacked due to the sythe exploit. I was selling a 07 near max main account. The proceeds were going to be given to TTB. I was attempting to get around 100m @ the time. The hacker used my thread and scammed a user for 100m exactly. I didnt have the money to repay the hack victim so i offered him the account i was selling. He accepted it and ended up flipping it himself i believe. During this entire process i was also arrested. I lost everything and had thousands to pay in lawyer fee's and court costs. Only recently have i been able to see the light of day. My debt was so huge it almost destroyed me. I sold my vehicles along with other valuables just to avoid doing serious time. Im finally almost done and caught up. I should be done with probation some time in January. At which time i should be able to make real headway with payments. Ive pm'd TTB several times apologizing for how long its taken. Ive sent him random payments when i could. Ive paid approximately 200-300 of the debt. Last month i sent him 50.00 via paypal. (think it was last month)
