    The following still applies;

    It doesn't matter whether or not you are aware that there is an exploit. Two Factor Authentication exists just because there are exploits. Failure in securing your account leaves no one but yourself accountable for whatever damages is done using your account.

    If there is proof that the database leak happened I don't think he should be held accountable. That's just my 2 cents but after reading this I'm getting 2factor lmao.

    Take this scenario:

    You store your money in a bank and have a checkbook. If your checkbook is stolen, and the thief overdraws your account, you are responsible for the debt. If the bank's database is leaked, and a thief electronically overdraws the account even though the account owner never shared or lost his banking info, then the bank is at fault for the issue. However, if the bank's terms of account ownership never offered protection over bank errors over others accounts, the bank is not liable to pay for anything. It does, however, discourage people from using the bank, because of the lose-lose situation.

    Of course, there are a few issues here to consider as well

    Hackers - This is always a lose-lose
    2FA - This will protect your account from hackers (mostly, unless you are Jagex and absolutely retarded and allow deactivation of 2FA, which makes it pointless)
    A user making an account on this site makes it in good faith that his efforts in account/reputation building can't be arbitrarily destroyed by security issues that aren't entirely his (in this case, an exploit that allowed another person to scam and force a moderator to ban the account). While we don't want security issues to ever happen, there's only three outcomes:

    -Sythe.org repays victims (not economically feasible to put a $ guarantee on accounts without an account creation fee, etc)
    -Account is unbanned, victims are never repaid
    -Victim is repaid by user who was hacked

    Scenario 1: Sythe loses
    Scenario 2: Victim loses
    Scenario 3: Hacked guy loses

    We can't make the money appear out of nowhere to repay the guy because the hacker stole it.

    4th scenario: Sythe gives Donation ranks to those effected by this exploit/database leak. Just my 2 cents

    Didn't consider that. I don't think many people would consider that 'devaluing' other donor ranks either, aside from Richard who doesn't actually receive anything I guess.

    Double edged sword here. Let's take Luke's case, we give Luke an extra $500 donated to Sythe and he repays the victim. Issue here is Luke can't afford the $500.

    Situation two, we give $500 donor to the guy who was scammed. In anger and frustration he turns and scams another user with his new rank that obviously displays some form of trust.

    Neither of those situations seem like reasonable ways to move forward. Im sure there's a "not as shit" solution out there we just haven't found it yet

    I would assume giving a donation rank or portion of a rank to the user. I guess it looks like a form of trust but honestly i dont care how much a person donates. I look at trading habits and vouch's. I believe there is a solution but closing a pardon before others can express opinions or options isnt the right choice. Ghast has zero consideration for this subject and honestly shouldnt comment on it.

    The thing is, you do, I do, other veteran traders do but most users don't. We've all seen scam reports where we sit and think "how the hell did this scam even occur, there's no way in hell someone fell for this" but we're blinded by our own bias and knowledge. I get that the solution in theory makes sense to give donation ranks but imagine the potential blowback, I can't even sit and imagine how many users could potentially get scammed.

    As for your feelings towards how Ghast handled it, i stand by what I wrote on the other thread (incase you haven't seen it). Just rest assured that it's being discussed and not shot away, but these discussions aren't discussion to be had publicly on someone's pardon thread. If you have theoretical input feel free to continue to discuss it and I can forward it into staff discussion, but as I said before there's no easy nor entirely safe way to handle this situation

    If someone is forced to refund because of an exploit, I'd support that they are given an equal amount in donation value to Sythe and the corresponding rank.

    What other way is there to compliment those who are forced to take things out of their own pockets other than award them in the only way possible.

    If someone is given a donator rank they could at least use this to try to make some money back from what they have lost more easily as they will be a high level donator if forced to refund a big amount.

    Since we're on the topic of debts, when are you gonna pay back ttb bro? :(

    It's interesting, but I see a few holes in this.

    Does this mean that the person hacked is absolved of repaying debts?

    Does this mean the victim receives the rank as a substitute for not being paid back?

    Is the rank permanent?

    If this is handled on a case by case basis, what is different in said cases? Since mostly all involve the account being used to make contact, e.g., pm someone before scamming them.

    This idea is great, and I bet most victims would feel a little better receiving a rank, but at the same time this paves the way for copycats to falsify a hacking to receive a donation rank.

    Then... You have those who have already paid back their hacked victims. Does nothing change on their side? That would suck.

    The rank is permanent.

    The rank is given to whoever is forced to pay out of their own pocket as a complimentary gift for taking responsibility in situations where an exploit caused a member to get hacked.

    Whoever was scammed would only be refunded what was scammed and would not be given a rank.

    Let me reiterate;

    The rank would only be given to those who have fallen victim to vBulletin exploits, no one else. If you are hacked via virus or similar things, you will not be reimbursed for anything that was forcefully refunded after the hi-jacking of said account.
