Good that I never donated.

Sad that Jagex killed RS2006 but bah.. it could have happened anytime.

 

Not suprised. Jagex are assholes hungry for money.
If the donations totaled 50k, that is money they definitely would have wanted.

 

If any of you recall the old p server Lostpkz, they made close to $40k before Jagex ended up taking legal action. I talked with the owners a lot during the process and the owners were lucky to avoid enormous fines.

 

This was obviously coming, it was inevitable. It was either now or in a few months time. Sucks, but hey, people took the risk when they donated. Shame that the owners probably pocketed it all though :L

 

50K is nothing though, lol. NRPK makes ~ $25k per month of donations. During Xmas/holidays, up to $35k.

Yeah im not too surprised, not only was it too good to be true but the whole operation seemed to vulnerable to be a success. It got hacked too often and Jagex were hardly going to just let them continue with the making of it.
A shame really, thank god I never donated.

 

Yeah but I'm thinking on the lines of 2006scape and all the other p servers. 50k there + 20k here + 35k there, it adds up and since we know how much jagex likes to milk every little penny from anything possible, they are probably extremely fumed and probably didn't take legal action because it would have cost them a lot (thinking in the millions) and decided not to. Nyeh watever.

 

Can't say I'm surprised. Saw this coming for a long time, it's been done before.

At the same time, I can't help feel disappointed....

My server wasn't "lucky to avoid enormous fines", we found a pretty good way around getting the DMCA fair use policy to work in our favor. The reason I ended up shutting down LostPkz is because at the time I wasn't 18, and all the PayPals I was using for donations were frozen, so the bill for the dedicated server was on me for a month or so, then people slowly left due to problems with the staff. Jagex only throws around threats; I made their lawyer look stupid. Google Bogdan Stakins.

Another reason for me to hate Jagex LOL.. I kinda saw it coming, ever since Jagex went after 06scape for the copyright name thing.

Kind of glad this shit is ended. Hopefully the drama and speculation that was coming with it will be over as well.

 

That email looks unprofessional and extremely unlikely to be from Jagex.

It is either a hoax someone made for lolz to make Jagex look bad, or it is Vault himself trying to deflect the blame from himself the the 10s of thousands of dollars he stole from people who really should have known better, this guy was involved in a similar scheme before IRC, and people have been saying this since 06scape started.


If Jagex was able to get private servers shut down, they would shut down the big ones like soulsplit and NRPK.
