Secondly, the hijab/burka is an idea of modesty enforced by the Muslim patriarchy. It's men telling women what to wear. That isn't even my main point though. Again, you didn't read my posts so I suppose I'll have to summarize.

Women during their menstrual cycle are seen as impure. You talk of inclusion when the exact opposite is happening on a regular basis in mosques. Women are sent to the back of the mosque to observe prayer during their periods as they are impure. They may not touch the Quran because they are impure. While a woman is pregnant, if her husband dies, she may not see or touch her husband. The woman is also forbidden to demonstrate an appropriate emotional response during her husband's death, as it is is deemed inappropriate.

Women are lesser according to Islam. They use a scale of purity to determine a woman's merit during her menstrual cycle which is abhorrent. This is where my confusion comes in. How can those who are pro-multiculturalism (such as yourself) defend Islam in the same breath, while also being anti-sexist? Islam directly contradicts this notion. This is the exact equivalent of saying "in a religious context, sexism is ok", which is so wrong on so many levels.

Do you see where I'm coming from now? Again, to reiterate, this is not a notion exclusive to orthodox/radical/fundamentalist muslims. This is a regular occurrence in mosques, just as eating the body of Christ is a regular occurrence in Christian churches.

I'm a sociology student looking at acceptance letters from UCLA and Berkeley. Those are the #4 and #1 schools in the country for social sciences. As far as the politics go- I could care less. But the US confirmed in this last election EXACTLY how important gender equality is. Not important at all.

None of these things are socially acceptable in majority of christian communities in the US and Canada.
Majority of christian denominations have "updated" their code of conducts in general. Christianity has survived since it was able to morph into a more liberal religion. The bible has not be altered any extra but, the way pastors preach has changed. Also take Catholics ; the pope himself believes in evolution and has a different understanding of the bible then other Christians. Christians don't want to live in a biblical society ; the issue is that muslims want a sharia based society .

Islam is the new posterchild and the average day lesbian and gay people are no longer "trendy".
In the past in the west we were by large anti homosexual then for a time being a homosexual was amazing and popular but, nowadays being gay isn't enough. Its not enough oppression. It is the same with Trans people unless a transwoman looks like a man she isn't oppressed enough. Transwoman who look like life females get "passing privilege " ... Its annoying how everyone wants to be edgy. The whole gender dynamics is the on basis that being a transwoman wasn't edgy enough so now you must be a demi boy. In reality all you are doing is shitting on and neutralizing the struggles any trans or gay people have. Also in the homosexual communities bisexuals are looked down upon but both sexes which is still a social issue anyone in the that community wishes to address.

Islam is systematically sexist whereas sexism in Christianity is a bi-product of orthodox beliefs and is not indoctrinated in their modern practices (i.e. moderate Christianity). In contrast, Islam has literally indoctrinated sexism into their modern practice (again, i.e. moderate Islam). In your last bit about leftists, you mention solely defending civil liberties. Would you defend the beliefs of a fascist, of whom notably exhibit unhinged racism? Why would you not defend a racist movement, but would defend a sexist movement? Do you see the contradiction?
