They tried to create a cure for cancer, but it wasn't a cure it was a virus that turned them all into zombie like things - therefore I wouldn't say it was about cancer. He's not talking a out s sci-fi film, he's talking about a proper, working cure for cancer.

There is a cure for cancer guaranteed tbh, just think about all the job lost people would have if the cure came out? Government wouldn't let that happen.

I know that this might sound sort of stupid, but why do animals like cows, chicken and pigs deserve to die? Just because they're unlucky enough to be born as animals? No, because we need to survive. Survival of the fittest applies here. Why do you value a human above an animal? Just because the human is of your kind?

All these diseases, genocides and stuff like that actually benefit us, whether you believe it or not. If you believe a human should live to his fullest, then you are wrong. He should be grateful for the time he received while he was still alive.

As for the whole criminal thing, well, the world wouldn't be any fun without them. You should respect the fact that different people like to do different things, and most criminals probably love to kill or do it for a living because they have no other choice.

People are the only ones who believe death to be some kind of ultimate punishment. Have you noticed that once we started to become afraid of death, we began to seek the powers of a god and have achieved close to it today with modern technology? It also accounts for the overpopulation and greed of people and how we're destroying the planet for our own selfish benefit. It's for fear of death, which is stupid, because it's just part of that cycle.

If you look at an animal, up to the point of death they are only afraid because of the physical pain. If an animal knew it was going to die without that pain though, there is a good chance it couldn't care less.

Death cannot be justified by anything because there is no need for it to be justified. Everything dies and needs to die, and we've been evading that which is why we've fucked up so much shit.

would be awesome allot more people would be happy !

I don't care about over population if we are supposed to get overpopulated like the same shit they been saying for 50 years.... then its gonna happen regardless.

Allot of people lost loved ones to cancer would be a miracle to see it cured.

If cancer was curable, id still have family members i dearly miss here with me today.. it really is a horrible disease, one that there does need to be a cure! especially for a childs sake, kids dont deserve to die at such a young age of cancer.

I do agree with alot of the posts above, Humans need some sort of population control factor, we break the normal mold for species that survive on Earth because we have rational and abstract thought. We are able to devise systems and plans faster than the Environment can evolve around us, we are not the top of the food chain anymore, were not even in the chain, we just co-exist with no natural born predators. The only thing thats stands in our way is other humans and diseases, its the environments only defense against us.

Now, do I think cancer should be cured? YES, but not for the reason you think. It's an incredibly in-efficient disease, with our technology it can be held off from ending the life of its host for many years, and thats not very effective as a defense against us. Tbh, plagues are much more realistic, and although many of you would think this is sick, humans need plagues to wipe out the weak every now and then. We just need SOMETHING to restore the balance. In any other species, handicapped individuals, sick individuals, elderly individuals, all of them die because they cannot care for themselves, its just a way of nature, but we have developed compassion, and although I experience this emotion myself and adore it, I cannot deny it is a flaw in the human design, its a weakness that requires us to hang on to every last life as if our population is going to go extinct without it, and thats just not true.

In the words of my biology professor, "WE NEED DINOSAURS", or something similar to put us in our place every once in awhile, something we can't defeat so easily, something to catch the slow and eat them for breakfast. Some of you said overpopulation isn't an issue right now, but neither is running out of fossil fuels or eventually destroying our planet and having to seek refuge on another one, all of these issues are far away but still inevitable and so is overpopulating our earth.

Yes, selective genocide is terrible, its racist and uncalled for and its completely wrong, but I do agree with the fact that eliminating that many humans did benefit the population issue, just the selection process was terrible and incredibly biased. Some Sci-Fi films reflect on this idea with a "lottery" in which people are chosen at complete random once they reach a certain age or once they become unproductive for the community. This sounds crazy and fantastical right now, but this make-believe thriller of an idea might not be as far off from the future as you think.

And thats the problem we have in america, all these young women hear about having kids, staying home and getting SSI, food stamps or whatever it may be. Then they figure hey, the more kids I have the more money I can take from the working citizen, so I might as well have 6 kids.

Speaking morally, I'd love to see cancer be cured. It's a really depressing medical issue. I remember being in the hospital once with an injured bone and walking past a child who I assumed had cancer and fell full of sympathy for her. You can tell she was sad. No-one deserves to go through something like that, especially if you didn't do anything to help cause it. (Smoking, etc.)

Logically, I guess Cancer would help cut the population growth a bit, which I guess is wanted but I don't like seeing these people going through such pain.

Millions of people isn't very much if you consider the amount of babies born per second and all that.

A cure for cancer would be great, the thing about cancer is that it doesn't discriminate (unless it's lung cancer from smoking). It kills some great people who do great good in this world, which is sad. It can happen to anyone, even you. A better way to control overpopulation is something like China has (although that's arguable of course). Cancer killing off random and potentially great and intelligent people is NOT good for the population.

We all will die someway, But I dont belive that we need to have mass killings to lower population. The world is growing larger with population size's yes but still more and more people die each day keeping it undercontrol.

The world is now where close to reaching its population limit. Although the general population is slowly growing other nation's populations are staying moderately the same or even declining. We have the resources, tools, and abilities sustain a lot more people on this earth. If we do reach a point of overpopulation it's the third world countries that will suffer from waves of famine and other repercussions. The same countries that would suffer would also not have the medical technologies needed to benefit from a cure to cancer. /end thread

    @ Finn

The earth's resources are not an endless source, one day they will dry up. The more people using up these resources the faster we will run out of them so overpopulation just means that we as humans are using up the resources we need faster then they can replenish themselves. With new technologies the amount of people who can comfortable live on earth increases. It is pretty widely accepted that the earth has too many people living on it but by no means do i agree that genocide is the way to fix this. There are humane and legitmate solutions that dont involve killing everyone. Like oil will run out one day, there is not enough food to feed everyone living on earth at once, if we keep expanding we will eventually occupy all the land there is and end up killing off endless populations of animals from doing this. building more cities adds to population which limits the fresh air resource we need to breath and grow crops so everything is like a trade off. A happy balance of people is way less then what we have now. China has the one child policy to steadily decrease its population untill it can sustain itself. Maybe this should be a world wide thing or a 2 child policy bc i love my siblings.

on topic: watch "medicine man" lol its a true story. so much money goes into finding a cure for cancer. so many people have jobs involved in this, doctors, researchers, people who work at clinics, people who design new equiptment to help cancer patients cope, event planners, ect ect. It would be a very great thing if a cure for cancer was released but every thing has both a positive and a negative. millions of people lose their jobs but millions of people are saved. Id say its a good trade.
Part of me can understand your stance on this but cancer is not even a spreadable disease. Hereditary problems or someting like STD or AIDS then i could see where your coming from bc as a whole we would be sacrificing now for the beneift in the long run. If everyone with cancer died there would still be cancer in the future so a cure is needed. The simple way to sure AIDS when only 3 million people had it was to confine those 3 million in some location and the disease would die with them. Now hundreds of millions of people suffer.

You wouldn't be thinking in this perspective if you had Cancer yourself and war is a better alternative to maintain the worlds population.

The truth is, the world isn't overpopulated. We still have a large food surplus.
