How To Flash and Upgrade Your BIOS For LAPTOPS!

INTRODUCTION

Welcome to my guide. This is handy for something like "High definition Runescape won't work for me!" or "Dammit, this game sucks balls! All pixelated and shit, yo!"
Updating your BIOS may be the solution to your woes. I know that by updating my BIOS, I was able to play HD Runescape and I got better performance on games, even accidentally hyper threading my graphics card to go from 128mb to 600mb+!

But...hold on. If I'm updating my BIOS, why the hell do I need WinFlash? What does it even do, anyway?

WHAT IS WINFLASH?

Simply put, WinFlash is a BIOS update utility bundled into a small program, making it infinitely easier than using a floppy disk (haha) or a CD to update your BIOS.

There are different flash programs for different brands.

Unzip it, install it and blah blah blah.


HOW TO FLASH YOUR BIOS

Once that's all said and done, locate your computer service providers support website. I have an ASUS A8jr, so I google "Asus Support".



I input my laptop model, and find my BIOS file.









Did all that make sense? I sure hope so. It is different for every brand. An ASUS BIOS update will not work for HP, funnily enough. Work out where your support centre is, and if the BIOS upgrade can't be found there, google for where it might be found. A few simple searchwords like "BIOS update for HP" is all you need.

You need to download that BIOS file, and keep it somewhere safe.



THIS IS WHERE THINGS GET TRICKY! TRY TO PRINT THIS OUT IF YOU HAVE TROUBLE REMEMBERING!

• Open WinFlash
• Open the BIOS file when it asks you to. (in my case, the extension is .210)
• CLOSE ALL PROGRAMS! This is a must. Flashing your BIOS while having things open can do horrible things. Even something as simple as typing a few letters can mess it up. Close all programs except WinFlash.
• Flash it.

When you add the BIOS file, it will look like this:



Once this is done, your computer should restart. If it doesn't, do it anyway. (IT SHOULD!)
REMEMBER THE WARNING ABOVE!

Then, once it's restarted, have a look around. Download CPU-z and have a look at your system specs to see if anything has changed. Games might run faster, or new things might appear! If, like my Asus Support page, you have other updates possible, go ahead and use them if you want. They might be of use to you!

I hope this guide has helped you out with any problems you might've had.

NOTE: I had not updated my drivers since I first recieved my laptop, so I had a significant change. You might be different.

but watever it gets the job done

9/10 on the tutorial, u shulda explained the stuff a lil more, sure its big but the pictures take up most of the space
