How to avoid and win chargebacks through Paypal?

I Have a Ikov gp shop where I buy and sell ikov gp for exclusively 07GP. I am going to start buying and selling using Paypal. I was wondering how big of a problem chargebacks really are and how to prevent them, also in the unfortunate case a chargeback occurs how would I have the highest chance of winning the dispute?

 

They are a pretty big problem. There's a decent amount of scammers in the RuneScape scene and they tend to target people who seem like easy victims.

I'm not sure about winning them. There's other people who know about that more than me. :x

There are no true methods of prevention. I'd recommend taking PayPal from semi-trusted users here on Sythe. If the purchase is excess 20M07+ I would ask the user to email me from the email associated with the PayPal and provide ID proof of that in case of chargeback.

If a chargeback does occur, which it most likely will, I'd gather all the relevant screenshots to make sure that your dispute is accountable.

Never take paypal from members without vouches for paypal transactions. Document/ record every transaction to prove delivery. Google emails/ skypeids to see if a particular user has been reported/banned previously.

Just ask for a pic of their state ID and match it with their PayPal. It's funny how I see Distort everywhere saying don't trade untrusted members and he's already banned for scamming xD

 

The truth of the matter is, there is no way to avoid or win chargebacks with PayPal unless:

1) You are a larger business with dedicated account management
2) You have industry risk tools to help you analyze purchases
3) You have large negative/black lists that cater to your specific industry
4) You enact painful and impractical methods of control (such as snail-mail verification)
5) You have an auto-system set up for risk management and fraud prevention

Getting a copy of their photo-id is not enough.

Unless you are a solid business operation, with tons of transactional history, any sort of chargebacks will run you the risk of having your PayPal account suspended and your funds Frozen (few years back, there were two incidents of sellers who operated on PA who also did their own sales on the side. One shared member, who had been purchasing from them directly for about 3 months, did wholesale chargebacks totaling around $40k to both of them. They both had to shut down operations, but one guy had it far worse than the other, in that he held his funds in an unverified PayPal account (a new one) which results in a freeze where he could not recover the rest of his funds (he may have gotten them back by now, not sure).

You're best bet (sure, it's a shameless plug, but really, there isn't a better alternative) is to use PlayerAuctions as your payment processor. This is our 15th year in operation, transact in very large volumes which allow us to communicate directly with PayPal on CB's for immediate resolution, and our systems work in tandem with theirs (we have the tools to do this) to help mitigate and stop fraud before it occurs.

And on those rare instances when it does occur, we absorb it, you don't.

If anyone wants to guess what our CB rates are, and our fraud loss rates are... I'd be willing to entertain that discussion with hot/cold responses for fun

There's been so many complaints & issues on here even the people that previously supported alot of ur feedback have bailed & stopped using PA.


Also I just want to mention a personal issue here which Frankly I am so sick of Playerauctions over its mind numbing.

Well let me tell you, I've tryed 5 PHONES FIVE, all of them using diff carrier's & numbers(grandparents,dad,mom,sister,mine).
Every single phone is on diff plans, several using diff providers, every single one is a mobile I can play apps on, text, call on, etc.
But nooo, your playerauctions support has been completely and utterly useless in aiding me, I consider myself a above average/larger seller with 150-250 livechats a day, and PA is an absolute unhelpful joke to me at this stage.
Fix your shit & message me if you can help because clearly your support cant.



I cant use playerauctions because of some freaking phone # verification which is an absolute joke, I can submit my freaking ID but cant sell because of a phone #.


FYI I'm american so I wonder how many other people cant either?

I might not go so far as to say PA is a complete joke on Sythe. If anyone knows the population of Sythe's active user base, I can shoot back with a % of the community which uses PA, and we have, through the years, worked closely with Admins, and members here.

There are many steps you need to take, but they are always mentioned. One thing I don't see mentioned much is to ask them to take a picture of their PayPal balance; if it is $0.00 or close, they are able to pay via PayPal and dispute their credit card company instead of with PayPal. This is almost a GUARANTEED loss. Hope this helps!

 

You cannot prevent dispute , just watch to who you are selling

Never used player auctions and wouldn't use it.

Seen so many bad reviews on styhe about it, I can't say tech support cos i've never used but to say it not a joke on sythe is understatement, Never heard of it before I joined but from my reading on this website it biggest joke of any rs selling website (Besides rs wallmart obv).

 

Definitely agree with that. Be sure they're paying with Paypal balance because if it does get disputed, you have a chance at winning the case. If they paid via their bank or credit card and dispute it there, you have no way to voice your side, and pretty much always lose. Smart way to check how they're paying.

Basically, you can't prevent it. Either risk it for the biscuit by selling for a higher price to non-trusted sources, or take the hit, but get guaranteed money for a lower price.

EDIT: In regards to how often they are, I've been quoted anywhere from 1/20 to 1/50 with proper precautions being taken, which is alarmingly high for the number of sales you'll strive to make.

 

The best way to avoid a chargeback is to sell to only highly trusted users or not use paypal at all. To win a chare back make sure u have as much info as possible like their id, sending email, and sent from family and friends through their paypal balance.

 

Not much can be done by one person. This is so many people on here decline paypal as a form of payment.
