@pleasant

Thanks for that advice, I do agree that the guide kinda veered off in the evidence part.

going to look for help from other members, as I know nothing about the markets besides the Runescape one.

Hello Fellow Sythe Members, Stui here on how to navigate the market forum on sythe.org and how not to get scammed.

Vouches:

1st of all you should visit this thread here and Create a new topic called (your username) vouches. And then have a quick read of this which tells you what you can and cant do with your vouches.

MiddleMen:

Have a look at this fourm here which is the middleman forums. The definition for a middleman is:A person who arranges business or political deals between other people. A good explanation of how a middleman works is written here by FlyingToast.

Ranks:

A complete list of ranks can be found here

This is a rank to be wary of [IMG] this means that they have either had some problems with having their account secured or have been suspected of scamming or coming close to but there isnt enough proof to get them banned.

Some more ranks you may see around:

These ranks mean that they have donated that amount to sythe.org to help with the costs of hosting and ect. the full list of donation benefits can be found here and the link to donate is http://sythe.org/donations/donate.html

Moderators and Admins

Moderators are probably one of the most trusted people on sythe, they have been chosen by sythe himself to be a respectful and kind member of the community. To be one of these is a great honour and you should listen to their advice at all times wherever you are on sythe

A complete list of mods and admins can be found here

Who moderates where?
A sectional moderator will moderate whatever section he or she is assigned to, for example a Runescape Moderator will moderate all threads and posts in the Runescape forums. Global moderators have the power to moderate every forum and admins can moderate every forum, as well as having complete control of all forums through the admin panel. All moderators and admins can give any user an infraction (except those of an equal or higher power than them) an infraction in any forum.

Rules

The full list of rules can be found here http://sythe.org/showthread.php?t=148431 but some of the main ones are listed below

1 Week Ban
1 Month Ban

Scammed What Should I Do

OMG I've been scammed what should i do. Well 1st of all you should head down to the report a scammer section which is here and read all of the stickes which are here
http://sythe.org/showthread.php?t=1290917
http://sythe.org/showthread.php?t=1109411
http://sythe.org/showthread.php?t=1118369
Then just choose what applies to you, Fill it in with all of the necessary proof and you will be rid of that person in a flash

What You Need to Know Before Entering the Market

First you should be aware of the rules. To list a few common rules that are broken in the market area:

Remember to take a look at all of the rules located HERE. When you get banned, negligence is NOT an excuse.

The Dangers of PAYPAL

Yes PayPal is a very convenient way to buy and sell gp, but what do you really know about it? If you are new to virtual trading you probably aren't aware that it is very easy to get scammed by using PayPal.

PayPal does not support the sale of virtual goods (ie RSGP) so all it takes is the buyer to file a dispute on PayPal and the payment is almost always reversed back to the person who bought the GP.

If you plan on selling GP NEVER sell through PayPal to someone even if they offer a ridiculous amount and offer to go first. These people almost always will charge the payment back and leave your PayPal account with a negative balance. The only exception to this is if the person is obviously a very trusted trader on this site.

What are VOUCHES?

Vouches are a form of proof that someone has successfully completed a trade or a service in the past. When viewing someone's vouches remember to take note of the quality of vouches instead of quantity. Someone completing a trade for $1000 value should be trusted more then someone with five $10 vouches. The two following vouches illustrate the difference between a good and a bad vouch:

GOOD Vouch
[IMG]

BAD Vouch
[IMG]

Notice how the bad vouch doesn't say much at all while on the other hand the good vouch shows that the trader has been trusted with large amounts in the past.

Another very important thing you need to know when reading vouches is the payment method used. Take note that if a seller has a lot of vouches but they are all dealing with PlayerAuction sales they have no real value. PlayerAuctions protects the buyer so there is no way the seller could have scammed using that site. They are proof of successful trades, however there is no proof that he can be trusted trading outside of PlayerAuctions. An example of these kind of vouches:

Middleman and OMM

What is a middleman? A middleman essentially makes sure a trade goes down smoothly without either party getting scammed.

There are two types of middlemen; regular middlemen and official sythe middlemen (OMM) which have gotten this status by completing a lengthy application and have been deemed trustworthy by staff. Do not always trust regular middlemen. Just because they label themselves a middlemen doesn't mean they can be trusted.

To view the list of Official Middlemen click HERE
To take your chance with a regular middlemen you can find one HERE

Keep in mind Offical Middlemen will always have the following rank:

Well, there isn't a size limit but keep in mind you are writing it to be read by people who are completely new and know nothing and you want to get them off their feet and have their first trade without getting scammed. Even if you hit on those main points and at the end link off to some other guides to improve their knowledge, that's fine.

Just gonna say @kjmt, don't put to never sell through PayPal, I don't agree with that because a lot of trusted users buy and sell through PayPal, and not everyone charges back. It should say something like, selling through PayPal can be risky so there are alternatives such as PA and such, but don't say don't trade through PayPal.

Question for SuF / Karl.

How important are pictures in this guide, because I wrote mine pretty in depth and detailed in the thought that this was a guide on how to conduct a successful trade, IE how to do a trade without being scammed, and I feel I have successfully gotten that across but I am looking at other members posts and feeling as if this is a guide for a person that is completely new to the black market in general and has never made a trade in their life.

I just want to know how in depth I need to go if you could so kindly quickly revise my 'guide' and let me know your thoughts on this.

Can be found here.

Break it up a little and just think of what a new person might want to know and add more than just not getting scammed. Whatever you think. I'm not a market person so I really don't know.

What to Do When you Get Scammed and How to Prevent it

--------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Introduction:
Sythe’s black-market, buzzing and active, is what attracts many traders from across the Internet. Learning how to function properly on these markets will increase your chances of making a great trade and help you build trust and respect among the community. Unlike many other sites, most traders on Sythe are friendly and honest; however, there are a couple of people on Sythe who will try to steal your money: Scammers. This guide will help you understand how the market works, how to conduct yourself in the market, how to avoid scammers and of course, make a great trade.

The Market can be found on the Sythe homepage, and by clicking on it, you will open yourself to many subtopics/sections and connect yourself to hundred’s of interested buyers/sellers.

What is essential when buying/selling:

1) Way of Communicating

To be an efficient buyer/seller on Sythe, you are going to need to communicate. The most popular way of communication on Sythe is through: MSN (Windows live messenger). Besides msn, you can communicate through Skype, AIM, ICQ, Yahoo and sometimes-even text/call!

2) A Vouch Thread
Before you start trading, you should create a vouch thread. You can create one here: http://sythe.org/newthread.php?do=newthread&f=518
You only need and only should have one vouch thread! The purpose of a vouch thread is so that buyers/sellers can post feedback on their trading experience. Your vouch thread should be easy to find, this is courtesy to future buyers/sellers.

You should lay your vouch thread out like below:

3) Knowledge of all Sythe Rules Before conducting a trade, you should know and be aware of all the sythe rules. Ignorance is not an excuse
Educate yourself here: http://sythe.org/showthread.php?t=148431

4) Knowledge of the Stickes Before trading in a certain subsection, you must be aware of all the subsections rules. Rules in a subsection does not nescessarily apply to other subsections. Again, ignorance is not an excuse.

Buying a Product/Service on Sythe

1) Finding the correct section. Upon entering the market section, a list of sections will be presented. Choose the section in which you would like to do business in.

2) Finding your salesman. After choosing your section, you need to find someone who is willing to sell his or her product/service to you. Pick the thread of your choice.

3) Deeming whether your salesman is trusted. When you’ve found the right seller, before proceeding to contact him/her, you should check the following:

• Ranks: Ranks can be found under a person's username. They're specially given to users who have proven themselves worthy of such rank.

Donator Ranks:
These are given to people who have helped Sythe.org financially. They're sometimes used as a way of determining one's legitamacy.

Mod/Admin Ranks:
Moderators/Administrators are a small group, chosen by sythe, to enforce the rules. They take care of the site and those who use it. Moderators/Admins are deemed to be among the most trusted on Sythe.

A more detailed explaination on ranks can be found here: http://sythe.org/showthread.php?t=367619

• Vouches: Vouches should be easily found. They're mainly presented in someone's signature or his sales thread. You should check the quantity and quality of their vouches. For example, a hundred vouches like this
still isn't worth one vouch like this:
• Professionalism: Ask yourself, is this guy willing to put in the effort to selling his product/service to me? A thread with good grammar and a good layout can go a long way.

4)Contacting your salesman:

When you are sure that you've found your guy, contact him. His contact info should be clearly marked on his thread or signature. *MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ADDED THE CORRECT PERSON*

5) Sorting Details Out:
When talking to your trader , it is important that you make sure that you have the correct price. Usually, the seller with give you a small briefing of how the trade will go down. Try to ask questions like: Who is going first? Can we use [Name] as a Middleman?

6) Security and Scam-Prevention: Read this step with utmost attention, because it can save your money and save a moderators time.

Asking for a Private Message
Before you pay your salesman, you should ask for a Private Message or "PM". Your salesman will message you privately on Sythe, with either a chat log of your conversation or evidence that he is talking to you. This is to make sure that you are talking to the right person. A legitimate salesman will not refuse a PM. When talking to seller who refuses a PM, don't trade; he is most likely an impostor.

Using a Middleman:
Also, to prevent scamming, Sythe uses a Middleman system. This is when you allow someone who you deem extremely trusted to hold both parties goods. He will give the buyer their product and give the seller their money. Using a Middleman decreases the chances of you getting scammed. It is highly recommended that you use a Middleman for all trades.

Recording the Trade
Throughout the trade, you should be recording the trade (screen shots/screen recorder). The reason for recording your trade is to ensure that the trader will be banned if he tries to/successfully scams you. These records act as evidence.

7) Paying and receiving:

If you're going first: After going first, the seller should tell you where to meet for the delivery of your product. If for a service, after you give the details requested by the seller and the service has been payed for, the seller should give you details of when the order will finish. You should be sure that you trust the seller.

If the seller is going first:: After the seller has completed the delivery or service, you must verify that it has been completed, then proceed to pay the agreed amount. If you refuse to pay when the order has been completed, you will be banned.

Using a Middleman:: When using a middleman, he should give you clear instructions on how he is going to conduct the trade.

8) Vouching: After the trade has been completed, Most users will ask you to vouch for them. What they want is for you to go to their thread and post a concise comment/feedback on how the trade went. Was it fast? Was it smooth? Were there any problems? Should I let the next customer know something important? The better you answer these questions, the better your vouch will be.

Selling your Product/Service on Sythe.

1) Finding the Correct section: It is important that you find the correct sub-section. This way, you will be advertising your product/service to interested buyers.

2) Creating your Thread: After choosing the correct subsection, you're going to want to create your thread. To create your thread, press the [IMG] on the top left of the Sythe website.

What to include in my thread?
Obviously, you should include your prices and the type of services you offer. To have a successful sales thread, remember to maintain professionalism - use decent grammar and non-explicit languange. Also please include links to both your vouch thread link and your contact information.

3)Waiting for your buyer.
While waiting for your buyer, you can browse around the forum or do various other activities. However, try not to get too sidetracked, otherwise you might keep the buyer waiting for too long.

How to know when someone posts on your thread:
So you can keep track of your thread, aswell as know when someone posts on it, you should subscribe to your own thread. To subscribe, you need to go to the top right of your thread, and press the tab "Thread Tools" a drop down menu will appear, you must then press "Subscribe to this thread"

Bumping
While watching your thread, you might notice it move down the list. A way to move it back up the list is to have someone post on your thread, or you may bump it once every 24 hours.

4)Communicating with your buyer
It is important to ensure that both parties are clear with the details: price, delivery etc. You should connect through an active messaging system

5) Security and Scam-Prevention: Read this step with utmost attention, because it can save your money and save a moderators time.

Asking for a Private Message
Before you deliver your product/start your service, you should ask for a Private Message or "PM". The buyer will message you privately on Sythe, with either a chat log of your conversation or evidence that he is talking to you. This is to make sure that you are talking to the right person. A legitimate buyer will not refuse a PM. When talking to buyer who refuses a PM, don't trade; he is most likely an impostor/scammer.

Using a Middleman:
Also, to prevent scamming, Sythe uses a Middleman system. This is when you allow someone who you deem extremely trusted to hold both parties goods. He will give the buyer their product and give the seller their money. Using a Middleman decreases the chances of you getting scammed. It is highly recommended that you use a Middleman for all trades

Recording the Trade
Throughout the trade, you should be recording the trade (screen shots/screen recorder). The reason for recording your trade is to ensure that the trader will be banned if he tries to/successfully scams you. These records act as evidence.

6) Payment/Delivery

If you're going first: You should make sure that you fully trust the buyer. Check their ranks and vouches before you proceed

If they're going first: After receiving payment, deliver your product/ start your service. If you fail to do so, you will be banned.

Using a middleman: The Middleman will brief you on the way he/she would like the trade to go down. Make sure you can trust this person.

7) Vouching

After the trade it's common courtesy to post a comment on the buyers vouch thread. You should also comment on the trade: Was it fast? Was it smooth? Were there any problems? Should I let future traders know something important? The better you answer these questions, the better your vouch will be.

What to Do When you Get Scammed and How to Prevent it
"If you get scammed for whatever reason, navigate to the bottom of the index page to the Report a Scammer forum (or click here: http://www.sythe.org/forumdisplay.php?f=253).

Make sure you have sufficient, legitimate evidence to prove that you were scammed. Failure to do so will result in your report beging ignored.

Read every sticky then make a report following the guidelines of the stickies. Keep in mind that it may take a while for the report to get tended to, but the main purpose of the section is for the reference of other traders. Before you make a trade, you should always search the name of the other trader in the Report a Scammer section and see if there are any reports on them. This could help prevent you from being scammed." quote from MegaMatt, ex-mod.

Formatting this was a pain in the ass.

I didn't proof-read it yet. I'm pretty sure there are tons of typo's and grammatical mistakes.

Anyfeed back would be lovely!

@rang3d maul

If this person is completely new, I doubt he would have complete knowledge of PM systems and such. Anyway, I thought we had to be as thorough as possible
