Fun ranks

Please don't instalock this thread please let's have a discussion about this before so. Not on the DNS so i imagine it was never asked b4?

In the FAQ it says that the ranks are rarely given out and only done so at admin discretion. It does mention contests.. Not sure if it was recently given out at one so please excuse me if it was.

I suggest TWO things!

1. Add more fun ranks! The current ones are butt ugly lol.. Only 4 good lookings ones out of the bunch

2. Increase the rate in which they're given! Look.. I know you're prob a forum that doesnt like change because you're so accustomed to the customs of the website but hear me out!!! The ranks are for fun right? Well why aren't they given away in fun events? They have no meaning right? So it isn't like a trust related thing.. The increase can be very minimal.

It's not fair that the ranks are given at discretion of staff because those who have some (prob all) will be opposed to giving them out. I only see staff and ex staff with them. Is it only a staff exclusive? Only non staff guy I've seen is bogdan

I prob wont be active enough to even receive any myself so this is to help the rest of you out seeking one

 

As much as I would like to see a more straightforward way of getting one (bias of course), I just don't see it happening, and here's why.

1. Staff, who are the only ones capable of making this come to fruition will undoubtedly be against the idea, no matter how minimalistic the increase in which the ranks are given away. For reasons of exclusivity.

2. Many users will piggyback on the idea of it being exclusive (including myself).

3. The ranks are perceived differently than what the FAQ entails. Yes, the rank is useless. Yes, it doesn't correlate or signify anything. However, the way the rank is looked at makes it seem prestigious, as silly as it sounds. Because of that it's rarely given out, and done so carefully.

Regarding your other points...

Two moderators that come to mind who got a fun rank before promotion are Jack Goff & Superfluous. There are also a few others who have a fun rank that hasn't ever been on the staff team. As you mention, Bogdan, and blazee are the only people who come to mind who have a fun rank. I wouldn't consider competition winner a fun rank because it has value.

More fun ranks sound cool, but the originals are rarely given out. It seems redundant to add more of something rarely given out. I'm not opposed to it though.

The last event a fun rank was given out was the 2013 Halloween event.

 

I wouldn't be averse to having another fun rank competition like the last where people submit various designs and a select couple get chosen to be created. The creators are given the rank and then the rest is at staff discretion.

 

Damn you type fast as fuck. Thanks for the info. It would suck if this got denied for reasons of not wanting it to be less exclusive.. The last event was nearly 2 years ago?? That seems very overdue.. Don't you think?

This sounds like a nice idea, although I would prefer it have restrictions to enter. Don't want a guy who just joined with $25 donor and svu to get a fun rank just to end up getting banned.. Nom sayin?

Funranks are basically made to go to the friends of whoever convinced Sythe to add the rank. There isn't a system to obtain one, and won't ever really be. No, it isn't fair and doesn't make much sense, but given that they've already been distributed randomly and haphazardly, albeit possibly undeservingly, there's no way to recall them without wronging those whose ranks were legitimate and deserved. Might as well just continue with the system in place, or rather lack thereof.

 

Different fun ranks for each holiday each year would be cool, or atleast keeping up with like half of the holidays and doing the other half the next year would be cool, support.

 

yeah doesn't really make sense to have one rank giveaway and then nothing for 2 years.

I'd like to see more - like one or two a year

 

Competitions for fun ranks are great...but like you said we just had one for design/artists. I'd like to see one that more people can participate in.


2-3 given out a year seems reasonable though. I don't think it should be more common then that though...since miniranks are here.

ik n4n0s the one who can hand out fun ranks for village drunk but i don't recall if he ran it through sythe beforehand or not the other ranks im not quite sure tbh.

This is a nice idea, but it seems like it will only really be beneficial to GFXers.

 

I got mine, along with Superman's latest one, for writing a comprehensive staff guide for new staff members. Superfluous got his for his compilation of banned members. Those sorts of things are generally rewarded. I believe in 2014? Heeatz got his for the Halloween event. So they are won with competitions.

I don't think we need new ones, really?

With the CDT, we've been trying to open up an option for contributors there to earn a fun rank with points from helping with hosting events and so on. Additionally, CDT membership would be more open to obtain.. so as long as you wanted to join, and helped regularly - you'd have a shot of earning one through hard work/time. I am open to ideas though.

There isn't a need for new ones, but I like the idea of bringing in new ones that are more relatable, and have meaning.

The last competition that had a fun rank as a prize was in 2013. We're nearing 2016.

 

We can't give out fun ranks for simple events. We need big events which require a certain level of participation to win. To host these; we need dedicated CDT members. Which is the difficulty there

 

What about the last batch of CDT members?

I expect fun ranks to come with big events, e.g., holiday events.
