That's a good idea. Anyone want to volunteer to make such a thread?
Reporting.
Lets start with the basics.
-Served as OMM for 3.5 years, conducted hundreds of MM's with no issues.
-Served as moderator for one year.
-Served as Admin for almost 3 years.
-Has assisted in the creation and implementation of a plethora of rules, processes, and standards on the site and in the market.
-Served as Head OMM; multiple contributions to the current OMM application process.
-Served as HUE and has assisted in the maintenance of the site over the years.
-Created and implemented the pardon system which allows users to seek a second chance after committing a major error. Additionally amended the system in order to allow all staff input in order to make for a more fair look and avoiding the possibility of an admin bias when the case is reviewed.
Obviously these are just the major ones, however there are maybe a handful of people on the site who can even begin to add some of the things to their list that Finn has done. Personal examples of how he has assisted me in the time I have been here:
-Assisted me in reviewing my OMM application when I initially applied, gave me critiques and criticisms on how to better improve the application.
-During a trading mishap which result in a biased issue of a TwC, he went out of his way investing alot of time into helping me resolve the situation with both the other member as well as the other staff.
-During a rough patch, Finn listened to me ramble about some IRL issues I was having, and patiently handled my extended venting, and gave me good advice from a neutral perspective.
-Countless other instances of him answering questions and responding to suggestions.
Other examples:
Glad that you went ahead and made the thread. I was planning on making one, but never had the time.
Something you can add:
-Finn went ahead and made a pardon for me when I had posted in the perm ban thread. [Source] I was a nobody back then, and hardly knew anybody. Regardless, Finn went ahead and made an appeal for me which was later accepted. This shows that Finn truly cares about the users of the site, and is another reason as to why he is a huge asset to the site.
- Finn steps up and decides to help User Education do some highly needed renevation. [Source] Without Finn the User Education section would have more than likely completely died out, as it was just a matter of time. Finn and I are currently working now to make some pretty big changes to the UE section to make a change for the better. Once again this shows he cares for the site and its users.
- Personal Support and Assistance wouldn't be where it is today without the help of Finn. Besides actually creating the section he has also made improvements such as the fairly new ability to post anonymously. [Source] This is an extremely valuble section of the site, and has proved to be helpful to many users.
(source: http://www.sythe.org/showpost.php?p=7055988&postcount=22)- Promoted in 2008
- Garnered tens of thousands of modlogs as a moderator whilst removing the more trivial yet equally irritating things from the site (spam, etc.)
- Stood against the team lead system which almost all staff hated but were too scared to stand against. Alongside a couple of others, I was the one who put my neck on the line, ''offended'' Vision Ex and managed to reachieve the sectional/global system which our staff wanted back so badly
- Overcame severe hostility when I was first modded to achieve Global two months later under a unanimous staff vote
- Have never taken a back seat and have always contributed my views and position irrespective of whether they cause offense
- Have counted Moderator logs every single month since I was admined so the staff can see how they're doing
- Have helped remove corruption and stop leaking. When I ran for Official Middleman in 2007, the ENTIRE contents (votes, comments, etc.) were leaked to me within a matter of minutes of the poll being established. Leaking was extremely commonplace when I first became staff and I have helped to remove it.
- Stood behind fellow staff members in the face of them being framed and treated like shit
- Spent more time improving this site than I have done on my school work
- Introduced Personal Support as a haven for our members to seek advice when they have nowhere else to turn
- Introduced the Non-Virtual Items Market and ensured its activity
- Been an approachable staff member for new staff members to approach and seek advice from
- Have banned hundreds of IPs which were being used by scammers
- Have been part of major collaborations with Matthew, for example, where we improve the site. Don't get me wrong, the majority of major technical changes can be attributed to him, but I always take an interest and offer suggestions
- Was the driving force for Pen, one of our best, most dedicated and caring staff members to be reinstated following minor mistakes
- Have helped to ensure a high calibre of staff in terms of helpfuless, activity and integrity
- Organized multiple community competitions
- Taken a step further than most staff members would in helping those who have been cheated. For example, when Bring Me The Horizon stole almost $1,000 in donations, I was the only person who did not sit back in complacency but instead managed to get the money returned by contacting family members and almost ultimately his school
- I have pioneered for many of our best ever staff members to be promoted who, without them, we'd be lost - Verts, Tyro, etc.
- Have stood against corruption and have always spoken out against it and have been the public figure who constantly puts his neck on the line and gets criticised for doing so: Zypur, Brandon, Daily, Syed, Rawr. The list goes on with time and the names become innumerable.
Considering the level of freedom that Finn has been given with in running the site, I am impressed with his overall positive record. When I look at other sites such as powerbot, where admins scam, sell positions, and ban/delete all evidence, the admin team here on Sythe is a good team. The fact that Finn handled the situation with professionalism speaks about his committment to the site.
To those who are claiming that his actions are extremely out of line or that he should not go unpunished for his "crimes", keep in mind that the open discussion of his past mistakes and what some deem his poor conduct is embarassing and punishment enough.
I will concur, there are times when Finn does not act in accordance with what should be expected of an admin. Granted, these cases are infrequent and typically involve minor issues (joking about a ban, or perhaps a rude comment), obviously there are times when he could have responded better.
I will propose however, that if given the detailed level of scrutiny that Finn is undergoing right now, that EVERYONE on the site would not fare nearly as well as Finn has thus far. I suggest to anyone who continues to bash Finn over minor instances to reflectively look at some of your own actions, and ask if you are perfect either. If you seek to target him for some of the things he is currently being accused of, please be sure to aim at me, as well the entire rest of the staff and every member on the site.
My point is that we are all human; we cannot be the perfect shining example of leadership that we would always like to be. A careless remark or a whimsical distasteful threat made in jest is meaningless when contrasted with the huge amount of good that Finn has brought during his tenure as staff of Sythe.org.
This thread is for providing a counterbalance to the recent thread which brought out what I have perceived to be a bias against Finn after every minor detail he has ever done wrong has been discussed.
If you have any positive experiences with Finn, or would like to bring up anything that I have missed, please do so here. For the record though, this is NOT a thread for blatant brown nosing; keep it constructive and provide some content to back up your post.
Thanks.
