Encouraging Others

It may not be a big deal to some, but I seem to see it a lot.
In Personal Support when people have a problem, some people say "Smoke some weed and chill out" or something on the lines of that.

I personally think there should be some sort of rule made that stops people encouraging others to take drugs.
I know a lot of people on Sythe smoke weed and some of you probably take harder drugs, I really don't care what people do with their lives as it theirs to live, I don't judge people just because they take drugs or whatever as I know people grow up in different environments. Drug taking doesn't bother me, however telling others to take drugs does. I think it should be against the rules to tell/advise people to take illegal drugs, or legal drugs in a bad manner.

I want to enforce this in Personal Support only, I am not trying to stop it in every section of the forum.

Support, telling someone to resort to drugs is in no way a good form of support.

It is against the rules to do that in Personal Support because that's not only seen as bad advice, but it's also a form of trolling and spamming. Report it when you see it.

However, outside of that section, saying things like that should not be punishable. People should use their own judgements when making decisions that could drastically affect their life. If they're not old enough to do that, then parents should be monitoring the content their child reads. There is no reason to increase the stress or restrictions imposed upon users.

Please use your rational abilities to determine whether or not someone is giving you good advice; if someone is being less than respectable, ignore them. Requiring punishment of these people is a bad idea and will only lead to upset users and excessive consumption of the staff's time.

If it's not prescribed from a doctor, yes.

Yes, the majority of users on Sythe live in the US or Britain, it's illegal in both. It's also illegal in almost all other countries.

Yes most people here are underage, the regular users and those that hang here a lot may be older but that is a really small percentage, there shouldn't be any encouragment to kids to do drugs, if you do believe that then, well I don't want to insult anyone or start a drug talk. It would be nice if drug talk didn't pop up in this thread.

I disagree. Drugs can be extremely helpful and useful. As long as the poster encourages strict moderation and knowledge before use, I don't see it as a problem.

 

Yes some drugs can be useful, but illegal drugs have very bad negative effects and should not be suggested to people in a bad situation.

Then maybe he just didn't care to discuss the matter. Posting unhelpful, or unnecessary posts in PS section IS infractable and forum bannable. People who say things like "do drugs and chill" are not providing helpful advice, are spamming, and are trolling. All of which are against the rules, and all of which are majorly frowned upon in that section.

I understand you may have good intentions with this idea, but I promise you that it reflects quite the opposite. You're sounding pro-censorship, and come off as a prude... both of which do not bode well on these forums. If someone posts spam, trolls, or something like that... then report them. But please do not try to limit the flow of conversation simply because you feel it is wrong.

I understand you may have good intentions with this idea, but I promise you that it reflects quite the opposite. I never said that helpful advice isn't permitted. He was referring to posts like "smoke weed and chill" which is not helpful advice. It may have some underlying truth to it, but it is far from a positive suggestion.

(This is hypothetically in the United States.) Someone comes to PS&A reporting having troubles with school. He feels depressed because he is having trouble with being motivated in his coursework. He already makes $30k/year on Sythe, and if he left school he had ways of giving people networking and website-hosting advice; his estimated proceeds are $50-70k/yr with all of that. He already has his GED. He also happens to be seventeen years old. Dropping out of school is perfectly legal at this point, but since the government say it's okay, it is immediately bad to assume that option? Your logic makes as little sense as this situation does, man.

What? I never said anything about a right or wrong stance. I just said that the fact that his government deems something illegal does not mean people should be banned from suggesting it.

I'm suggesting people STOP ENCOURAGING OTHERS TO TAKE DRUGS.

People in bad situations, such as considering suicide resort to asking for help on Sythe.
When people seek professional help they don't get told to smoke some weed, it clearly doesn't help at all. All drugs have negative effects as well as positive. It's only the ignorant drug takers that fail to see the negative side to it.
I used to smoke weed when I was younger, I thought it was cool at the time but I didn't go around telling others to smoke it because it made me high for short amount of time.
The term "going white" comes to mind when I think of the negative effects, someone in a situation such as suicide doesn't need that on their minds as it only makes their life worse.
Suggesting other drugs which can become hooked on is stupid, people come for advice, not for some idiotic child to come and tell them to smoke weed or take other drugs.
