Duel Glitching Okay, Item Scamming Not...?

Luring is social engeering ingame, it is a lot different then me being able to eat in a stake where eating isn't allowed tha'ts scamming, but if I drop 10k in the wild and say it's A LOT money then they go pick it up and my friend kills them did I scam them?

95% of people on here scam anyways...if a free MM gets to handle a phat set and say $2000 I can almost guarantee you he/she would probably scam it.

Bottom line.. everybody on here is greedy and if they can make a profit any way possible they'll do it. The guide reviewers or whatever are probably loving getting to review these guides.
That's why there are Official MMs like me. :)

On a serious note, it shouldn't be allowed to sell on here. It's the same concept as scamming, but without the other user's knowledge. Indirect scamming, essentially.

Support.

Like I've said in every thread about this before: You can not be a cheating site and not allow cheats. Either you market aligned people give in a bit on what you consider "scamming" or we eliminate the cheating site of the website all together.

Why does the approach have to be to allow all cheats or don't allow any? That doesn't seem to be the site's current stance. If it were, then why is account recovering not allowed? Everyone has access to the same in-game recovery system, so you would just be using a glitch in Jagex's recovery process to gain an advantage over someone else, right?

Not all cheating involves directly scamming another player. Botting and real world trading are considered cheating as far as Runescape is concerned, and that is what the majority of the Runescape cheating section deals with. Just go look at the section and you'll see that it is dominated by these topics. Eliminating the sale of glitches that allow someone to directly steal from other players would not necessitate the removal of botting and real world trading from the site.

It seems strange that you are labeling some users in this thread as being "market aligned people" as if they were some kind of minority here. Look at the site's slogan: "Sythe: The craigslist of virtual goods". I think the majority of people come here for the market, not bug abuse.

I do not support the sale of bug abuse which relates to an unfair advantage in staking, etc. at all. It isn't borderline, it is scamming. Perople have been banned for admitting to scamming players who have nothing to do with Sythe on Runescape. How is this any different?

Wouldn't trading RSGP, accounts, and any other Jagex property be a form of manipulating/scamming the game? In short, yes. The thing is we have to find out what is "right" and what is "wrong" according to Sythe. I agree in game scamming is wrong and unfair, just my two cents.

Buying gold or botting isn't the same as cheating to scam money from other players.

Wait, do you not have an Archer rank?
the hard thing about this is the following:
If these glitches become against the rules, they will just be renamed so their purpose isn't solely for the Duel Arena.

Luring is perfectly acceptable. Also, it's perfectly acceptable to snipe names so long as you didn't snipe them from a sythe user (see Orly's ban)

I wasn't talking about luring.. I was talking about a user who scammed in a duel.

Luring guides are not scamming the way I see it and does not break RuneScape rules in any way. Sure, you are tricking someone to fall for a trap. That happens everyday in Wilderness in many other ways.

Staking glitches, however, are bug exploiting. Those are against the RuneScape rules and are a form of scamming. No doubt about that.

Cheers.

That is a really good point. It would be difficult to disallow certain glitches based on how you predict people will use them. The popular staking glitch now (requiring RotM) could be marketed simply as a way to improve your combat stats without having to use consumables. I guess this would be pretty difficult to enforce.

Its really not that hard to enforce.. Issue warnings/bans of increasing severity for repeat offenders. Bundle this with a user support (users report threads) and it becomes fairly easy to enforce this.

I never said that nor implied it. Either eliminate them all together or not market people need to give a little on what they consider scamming. That is not all or nothing. This is also my personal stance, not the websites. EDIT: You are also reading way too much into my post. Never once did I say that the market users were in the minority. Stop putting words into my mouth and take what I am saying as it is written.

The thing is that Sythe hasn't been a cheating site in a long time; it is a market place over anything. Just remove glitching all together and this would be very easily settled. The market isn't going to take a hit because 3 guides aren't going to be allowed to be sold.

Its also really not going to take a hit if they are allowed to be sold so it really does not matter.

This isn't the same as scamming at all, and also when your staking you dont know if your staking a sythe members, or just some kid.

sythe takes action on people who scam sythe members, not just runescape scammers.

I didn't mean to sound so hostile in my post, or put words into your mouth, that was just the impression I got from reading your reply. I have a bit of a bad habit of going on the offensive when it's not really called for, so I apologize for that.

While I still think allowing these glitches to be sold encourages scamming, you are probably right about the site not really being affected by it. I've never seen a worthwhile staking glitch being sold here, and I doubt the ones that are actually useful ever will be, at least not until they are already widely known or soon to be patched. I guess allowing them to be sold may even help make the legitimate stakers of the site aware of their existence, as they are going to be used against us regardless if they are sold here. Seems like it might not be as clear cut of a decision as I originally thought...

I always felt like Sythe was an underground. The black market. Essentially, it still is. However, I never understood why people, all of the sudden, feel like scamming in-game should be even close to a bannable offence. In Runescape, simply scamming might give you a slap on the wrist. Possibly a mute. But then,.. goldfarming, account trading, RWT, botting, glitching, ect.. are all bannable offences in the eyes of Jagex.

Yet, here on Sythe, it's the complete opposite. All actions/items listed above can all be rationalized as scamming, or have very similiar effects on the parties involved. But they're all completely accepted here. I don't see how anybody can rationalize one, but not the other. Double standards are not something anyone should have. Cheating's apparently allowed, but scamming is not? What do people think the word "cheating" means? I'm confused. I felt as if Sythe is a place for cheaters and scammers. However, there must be honesty amongst theives. People wonder why Sythe has so many members scam others. It's simply because that's the kind of people the site attracts. The cheaters. While scamming on-site doesn't have a place here, trying to rid this site of any scammers and cheaters is like taking the animals out the zoo. I think it's all the same.

I, for one, think banning people from Sythe for in-game scamming is asinine.

I agree with Aegis. The only form of cheating I frown upon is one between two Sythe members. Other than that we are pretty much on the same side of the battlefield. Us abusing and exploiting the platform made by Jagex which goes by the name of RuneScape.
