Are you serious? What reason do you have to suspect that any new drug tester would accept a bribe? That is a completely unfounded assumption.

If you really think that the government would allow the people who are ON welfare to test themselves, you're retarded.

Cameras in the bathroom could easily solve that. Also, before being a drug testers you would be tested yourself. Honest people who are welfare want to do an honest job. They wouldn't mess it up if they honestly wanted to get back on their feet with their families.

That shit is political only....just to buy votes.

I rather they spend the money on fixing exploits and loopholes in the welfare system instead of making it cost MORE money.

I would call getting drug money from the government (aka taxpayers) an exploit.

I feel this is actually a good idea.
A lot of people who are out of work are alcoholics or junkies most of the time..

    I support it...

However i see it like this.

I wouldn't strip welfare away from someone who legitly needs it and does drugs. i would have them arrested etc but not lose the benefits IF the drugs arn't the reason they can't work.

I know atleast 3 people personally who are on welfare and do drugs, and could legitly work. they just scheme the system for a free ride.

Still doesn't rule out the possibility of other forms of drug testing. And my first statement still stands. Honest people want to do honest work. Hire the one's who have a clean drug history.

    Drug Testing for Welfare.

This discussion centers around hiring junkies, removing them from the workforce would just put them back onto welfare, piggybacking off the government. Just because someone is/was a drug addict, doesn't mean they aren't honest. Employment curbs drug addiction, if only just because it keeps the potential user off the street. Your post is irrelevant and borderline inhumane.

Also @Honeo, I don't see how people spending my tax dollars on drugs is any worse than my dollars funding the death of Iraqis.

    Drug Testing for Welfare.

My post is neither irrelevant nor inhumane, that's a bold statement. The idea is very flawed and was posted more as a joke than anything. If we were to conduct drug tests they would have to be done by professionals who know what they are doing, not people living off welfare, that I understand.

And your claim about "hiring junkies" is very judgmental. People on welfare could have been laid off because of job cuts and have nowhere else to go. I have no problem that my money goes to welfare, just give it to people who actually need it and use it for good use.
You cannot even compare these two extremes. People actually support the war in Iraq. You would find very little people who would support giving money to homeless people for drugs unless they were drugged up themselves. Like I said before, if you whole heatedly support giving money for drugs to homeless people then you're bullshitting me for the sake of this debate.

    Drug Testing for Welfare.

I'm actually on welfare currently for an accident that disabled me temporarily, and I love this idea. I'm tired of seeing the public's hard earned money misused. I know quite a few jobless mothers just from around here who adopt children to collect more and more welfare money, then go off to spend the vast majority on their drug addictions.

See Welfare deserves to go to people like you who need the money until they get back on their feet. I support 110% my money going to you. But to those junkies? I don't fucking think so

Capital idea! It will cut down on a lot of crack heads. Now if we could just get people on government aid to stop buying liquor...

"How is it not fair seriously."

Because those same people on welfare have to pay for the drug tests themselves.

Honestly, I think that's a bad idea. so what if osmebody who's on welfare spends some of their money on weed? As long as their not crackheads or spending all the money on drugs. also, sorta off-topic, but how old do you have to be to recieve welfare in Canada?

Because their using government funds to buy illicit drugs. Regardless if marijuana is harmless and should be legalized, I don't want people receiving welfare to spend my money on unnecessary drugs. People who receive the aid should be using it to help get another job, not to get high.

I will completely agree with a random drug test before ANY activity regarding government funding. People receiving Welfare should be required to have a receipt for everything purchased with that money, in my opinion of course.
