Drug Testing for Welfare.

Drugs hang around in your system. If they do a hair test, they'll definitely find it. Blood sample, you may be lucky, Urine test you'll be borderline. Hair samples can detect drugs, sometimes for months after the original consumption.

 

You are probably right, I am not very knowledgeable on drug tests, but I was referring to urine tests in my statement.

 

I don't support this, simply because the government would be saving money by implementing this. Statistically, I would wager that the majority of people on welfare have used an illegal substance within the last three months. The day this becomes in place will be the day that crime rates rise as a result of not receiving the aid that these people so clearly need from welfare. Simply enforcing a new policy like this is not enough to clean the desires of many addicts from continuing their usage.

 

Huh? Save money? I sense Bullshit. It wouldn't save money because those people who use welfare would be less able to afford things they actually need, since they are spending their cash on drugs, not homes and educations.

 

I support drug testing for welfare as there is a large amount of government money(welfare) going towards illegal activities such as drug dealing.

 

It's not like the junkies WANT to steal this money for their drug habit. You CANNOT just quit use with addiction. Well you can, but you'll die.

Regardless is this a good thing as you can get help other places for drug problems.

 

A better solution is for the government to say they will not incriminate anybody who has a drug habit if they freely admit it to welfare, and will aid in rehabilitation free of monetary expense or criminal rating.

First off, let me start by saying I smoke weed and am EXTREMELY in favor of legalizing and regulating it in a manner similar to alcohol. However, that is an entirely different issue. Welfare checks should go to those who are pursuing the improvement of society and their own lives. If somebody is getting welfare checks and funneling all that money toward drugs, I would rather they weren't supported by welfare at all. IF, by some chance, weed is legalized, it wouldn't even be affected by this law. It's not like this is adding some permanent criminal burden to smoking pot. When weed is legalized, it will be unaffected by this law.

Opiates/stimulants are not going to kill you from withdrawals, it's hell but achievable. Benzo's on the other hand can kill you with withdrawal.

 

I smoke weed myself but if your going to be drug tested in order to recieve welfar then by all means you should stop smoking until you don't need welfare anymore. And who knows you might not start up again, but the point is you have to be responsible enough to say "I gotta stop doing these drugs and get my life in order"

 

They might not kill you, but you can get some real nasty disorders from it. I think that counts as well.

Their lucky enough to get a unemployment check. I live in Florida and its rough, there is little to no jobs and many are unemployed. They tax us on our hard earned money and it gets split between so many different areas. They should be drug tested, after all they get the money spent on the test back in their next check. Your ridiculous if you think that this is wrong

 

This will never happen because our state can't afford to send someone with out a job to a rehabilitation clinic free of charge. Get clean, get a job, then do what you wish. Getting a check for not working shouldn't just be handed out, it should be earned and this is the price you have to pay.

 

True, our state can't afford it, but that is something that the government should work on after we get into another economic boom. It has to happen someday.

Your an aussie. You're the one with the government restricted pornography. Seems fair to me, if your living off the state, you should be clean. It may be unconstitutional, but its pragmatic.

 

You're such an idiot. The debate is whether we should drug test people who receive welfare or not. We aren't debating the media hype on why drugs are bad. Do you want people spending YOUR MONEY (tax dollars) on drugs? If you say yes, then you're bullshitting me.

This absolutely NEEDS to go into effect. The people that are too unfortunate/poor that need government assistance shouldn't even be thinking about doing drugs. They should use that money to support themselves or a family until they find a new job. Once they find a new job they can do all the damn drugs they want.

I'm tired of people not supporting this law because they think it's a constitutional infringement. It is simply a loophole in the system that needs to be closed.

Also, if this law goes into effect, we will be creating jobs. We will need people to assist with the drug tests, and people who don't have jobs can fill the role. Boom, unemployment rate solved. (just kidding but it's a start)

 

If that happens, all the people on welfare will get a job testing themselves for drugs, or their friends, and so on... I smell bribes. A drug tester has to be a trusted person that won't fall for that shit.
