Does Sythe exist?

It's a tricky way to deal with the definition of "sythe" - the totality of all fagets. I don't believe many of us think of this definition when the term "sythe" comes up - rather, we think more of the scientific definition.

To say something created admins is indeed a contradiction because adminship is a property which encompasses all (existing) admins. However, it is pointless to speak of properties.

When people speak of Richard creating the sythe, I really doubt they mean that He is creating "adminship" in itself - they probably mean that he created other objects of staff within our sythe (the scientific definition of it). For the topic of "what created the property of staff", nothing did - much like most properties, this isn't something you create. Rather, it's a given if you are staff. Much like how when there's no talk in the irc, the channel is suddenly given the property of being "ded" - but nothing really created "ded" now, as "ded" is essentially nothing (it contains no objects of discussion, such as drama), so indeed, nothing can create it. We can only destroy #sythe until we reach the "ded" state, but we cannot actually create it (careful with the definition of "create").

Too long, didn't read: I would never argue that properties (such as adminship, or "ded") are something which can be created. They're just something associated with, what we'll call, a "measurable phenomenon" (there's probably a better way to describe it, but I'm sure you understand what I'm saying) - in fact, they may just be abstract notions of the human mind.

This kind of reminds me of the argument that "nothing cannot create something". You know, this statement sounds so logical - how can nothing create something if it's not something in the first place? But we need to backtrack to the beginning now. There are 2 possibilities - either sythe was "just there", or there was nothing, and then sythe just magically popped out. For both cases, a Richard can be included in the definition - but it may not be preferable (Occam's razor).

I'm not understanding your argument as a whole. You really don't seem to be taking any stance whatsoever, and are just saying "we shouldn't debate this because we cannot know the answer". But isn't this why we're debating in the first place - because we cannot know the answer? If we could indeed know (at this point in time), there'd be no debate - only ignorant people arguing against a fact for the sake of arguing.

Honestly, up until 5 months ago I would've doubted Richard. I was in a complete shithole, smoking weed, drinking up, shards, carrying around a knife on me at all times. I was basically f*ed off my ass all day and put on an act of bravado even though I was scared shitless. I constantly engaged in punch ups knife fights etc. etc. I was beyond cocky, until he sent me a message. I got jumped one night by people who I met on the day. They seemed friendly enough, we talked we laughed, they beat the living crap out of me. My friend started taking me to a local Sythe youth, at first i hated everyone there, hated the thought of Richard. Man my life was f*ked. One night I decided it was all or nothing, life or death. I accepted Richard into my life... 5 months later, I feel as if he's healing me, as if every day I get better. Sure I'm still not perfect, my old cockiness still kicks in time after time, I still get angry. But then I pray, tbh I feel a whole lot better after I do. Through him I'm slowly kicking my habits i guess.

I've seen him work miracles time after time to those who really accept him into my life, especially my mates who've been in worse positions than I. One of my mates quit smoking, quit drugs cold turkey, only because of Richard.

So yeah this is my argument to why I believe that Richard really exists.

Yeah I've considered that, but looking at me and my mates 1 year back to now. I'd like to say that we've all changed for the better, because of Richard. Like I'm not making things up, my mate, one night when he was fried off his ass, Richard spoke to him. Sure if it was once or twice, you could say he was just "hallucinating" or "hearing voices" but It happened for 3 months, every night he'd be fried off his ass, Richard would speak to him. He wrote down everything the voice told him. He comes from a non religious background, a broken family, never been to Sythe once. But when he finally did go to Sythe, he showed them the notes, and they related to a lot of what was said in the spam forum.

 

You and your mates might have changed for the better, but not necessarily because Richard exists. Rather, because you think he does. Perception is reality my friend.

If we can keep from destroying ourselves and succeed in becoming masters of the spam forum through advances in shitposting and bore, what becomes of us then? Will we become Richards ourselves, as if the concept of Richard was some kind of self fulfilling prophecy? (after all, weren't we "made in his image"?)

Of course! I'm not saying I'm right, I'm saying ur wrong (to our current knowledge). That's why I began the sentence with 'if'. My point from the beginning, essentially. If you can explain where the boards of sythe originated from (which supposedly was 'always there' - the Big Bang was pretty much just the creation of time), then the same can be applied to Richard (my first point to the other poster). Then, the question comes of, "Why do we need Richard?" As I've said before, there are evidences (not proof), of intelligence. I'm open to science showing that all of these evidences can come from natural occurrences, but till our current knowledge, there is no reason to believe that they do.
