Do you hate it when people try to "Save" you?

Yeah IMO a Buddhist trying to save you is much more genuine than a Christian doing the same thing. The Christian usually has selfish motives (like going to heaven), while the Buddhist is probably actually trying to help you; they don't get rewarded by any "god" for converting people.

 

No one around where I live ever does the whole "door to door" approach, therefore, it's evenly distributed where I live (and have lived - Norway and Spain).

Using this forum as an example though, it's filled with atheists trying to convince others that "they are wrong" (or convert them even), while the Christians defend themselves and their beliefs (which they shouldn't even have to do in the first place).


Guess it's just mainly poopy America that seems to have their issue. (Don't worry, I know there are places in Europe they also do the whole "door to door" thing, just not as much....)

I also watch those religious programs on TV.
It's like a combo of Tell Sell and Comedy Central.

How many openly proclaimed atheists do you meet in real life? Yeah...atheists are the most distrusted group of people in America (where I live), making most atheists closed off about their beliefs to other people. Online, however, anonymity allows atheists to say whatever we want without fear of being persecuted. Even though the numbers suggest that atheism is a vast minority, it's actually quite different since many atheists aren't comfortable enough to say so and some people are atheists without even knowing it.

 

I'm an atheist, and while i do not like people trying to convert me, i don't mind it. I'm not going to change, I'm sure that I've made the correct decision.
I do appreciate it though, because that shows that they care about you. That shows that they give a shit enough to want to know your opinions, and want to share theirs with you.

 

I don't agree with the ideas they advocate, but I do think it's quite touching that they care about my person that much.

 

This haven't happened to me before, but if it happened I'd might get aggravated. Because I'm an Atheist, also because I think that beliefs should be figured out by every single person by themselves.

So mainly I think spreading beliefs is disrespectful.

 

To be honest yes it gets very annoying.

 

I completely hate it. Just believe in your religion, I'll believe in mine. Don't try to convert me since I really don't give 2 shits about it. I like my religion and I don't plan to ever convert.

 

I personally don't care.

It makes themselves feel warm fuzzies, so I let them have that, and try not to look too "overly-interested."

 

yes i hate it, i believe that everyone should discover religion by themselves rather than to be preached into one. I, for one, do not believe a specific religion because it just causes conflicts and fights. I.E. Jerusalem. But i do believe that there is a supreme being or beings because not everything can be explained.

 

This isn't a dabate whether Christianity is the right way or not, in the CHRISTIAN'S eyes, he can see the danger. The cliff one isnt a bad example.

Some guy comes and doesn't realize that if he jumps into the water, he will hit a rock just under it and die. I know that he will so I tell him. He says NO I WONT and doesn't believe me. Should I give up just because he doesn't believe what I know?

Oh, you founded atheism? Admit it, someone convinced you it was the path for you. Whether it be a book, a movie, or a person. You didn't just come up with it yourself.

In the end I know it is your decision so to bug you constantly is pointless, because you have to believe it in your heart.

 

If people wanted to "Change" then I think that should be there dicision...

Lol if someone is trying to save u, it's because they genuinely care about u. What's funny about atheists is that they believe in not believing. Imo, if there is a God, he must be pretty intelligent (hence scientific, as well). Anyways, science has never been able to determine what comes after death, so I'll stick with beliefs.

 

If you can prove that the rock is there, then there is no problem. The point most people are trying to make is that you can't prove religion with facts, it's based on "faith" so the rock under the water statement doesn't make any sense, just like Christianity.

 

I have personally run into many more atheists trying to convert me than Christians. I find that many atheists insult relegious people by insinuating that they are dumb due to their beliefs. They think that science proves everything any anything else is a lie. If you don't agree with them then your dumb is their mentality. Now this doesn't apply to all atheists or evan a majority, there are just a few out there that ruin it for others. Although some Christians are very ''pushy'' when trying to get you to convert and I don't find that appealing either.

I am a Christian and don't mind when buddings, etc try to pursuance me, I just think that an atheist who preaches all the time is in fact hypocritical.

Hm, when I road the bus to work I would get offered a ride to the Max station "public transit train" by random religious people. usually they'd offer me a ride, which I would not decline, then in sense they offer to "save" me by me joining their sunday prayer. . .. I alway respectively decline

 

No, you can physically point at the jagged rocks underneath the cliff to prove your point.

You research about the religion and make the choice whether or not you want to follow said religion. There doesn't need to be a nagging man in a suit to convince you to join a religion.

I'm pretty sure Atheism was founded by separate individuals who realized the fallacies of religion. I became Atheist/Agnostic myself after I found science. And yes, many people are convinced to stop believing in God...but the same goes for Christians. I'm sure you didn't follow Christianity by choice? Your parents most-likely preached it at a young age; as did their parents.
