I pm'd roary 2 days before you posted that public applications thread about sending me the (private) application so I could apply, then you took it public and I just gave up. Fix your app process.

Did he not respond? I made it known to all the other CDT members that a public thread was going to be posted ahead of time, it wasn't out of the blue.

Wouldn't hurt to search back on other CDT Application threads, as there pretty much always the same. And good job PMing the busiest member of the CDT, who probably receives 10 PMs per minute, and on top of that, you were too lazy to PM more than one person? Smh.

I applied for a position so I'm hoping to get a spot. But personally I'd suggest we bring back the sythe lottery but COMPLETELY restructure it. I did a search and found we used to have one but nobody participated...

(Reason I'm suggesting here instead of Suggestion section is because the CDT would have more power to implement this than gaining support from members and admin in other section. This is a community event and issue therefore I think the CDT is capable of making the decision.)

Here is how I'd run it:
Create an RS3 and OSRS lotto. Assign one member as the lotto representative and collection officer. Replace the 100 slot design with an open entry, this way lotto does not have to be canceled if not many people participate one month. Each entry would be 5M RSGP or 1M OSRS. The representative will collect from the contestant, and place each user's name in a numbered list according to which order entries were made. Once a month use a random number generator (we have one for the dicing thread for donors or we livestream via twitch). A winner will be contacted via PM (banned users will institute a re-roll) and will be give 90% of the pot collected. The other 10% will be used as donations for Sythe.org.

    Example:
I pay 5m 3 times in a row to whoever the rep is. I will be entry number 31-32-33. The pot at the end of month totals 1B RSGP... The number rolled is 32, I would be contacted and given two weeks to collect the pot before its rerolled in a second drawing, each member who entered will be notified of this. When I collect I'll be paid 900M RSGP and sythe keeps 100M to be sold for the site's maintenance.

This way we have a better lotto system in place, a user will always win which will attract more people to the website, and Sythe gets more funding through the tax if you will.... (rate could be slightly higher if need be).

I feel like that was a fair suggestion instead of a complaint about application processes or inactive CDT members.

It's not a bad idea, but I don't think the CDT is responsible at all for raising money for sythe. Also, this would require quite a few people to buy in.

I think the CDT should get some more publicity. Something that could generate a ton of participants for events is to have a CDT banner. I'm not sure if its possible since the Food4rs advert was just added, but something there that is placed every time a CDT event was active would've gone really far in getting people to participate in events. Of course, this is more of an upper staff decision

As you've acknowledged we've done a lottery in the past that ultimately failed due to inactivity.

I don't see a problem doing one, raising the buy in a little, and at the end rolling regardless of the number of participants.

I'll bring it up, thanks for the suggestion.

Probably won't happen, the advertising banners are quite expensive and purchased for a month at a time. However we are trying to make events more visible. News post, signature campaigns, posting in multiple sections, and potentially even using the sythe logo space.

I do agree that the CDT is not solely responsible for raising money for sythe, however no money is being raised besides donations... This would increase the amount the site gets...

I also agree that the CDT needs more publicity and I was about to suggest adding a banner at the top of the site with upcoming events. But nobody on the site really knows who the CDT members are unless they go searching for it. I feel as though if we were to add a rank (such as sectional mod etc. rank) for the CDT members, this would allow users to not only see who the people are that make the community work properly, but it will also generate interest in the users who want to know what the CDT is (leading eventually to more active participation).

Trust me, I'm pushing hard for this. The community voted yes on a rank, the entire CDT is in agreement about it. But I haven't been able to get a response from Sythe on it. There may be a minirank but I think its too little.

yea minirank too little. TBH nobody really cares about them because usually they come and go each week depending on participation. I only ever look at a minirank if its one I haven't seen before. A full sized rank gets everyone's attention like flash donor ranks and SVU.

I think the site stopped this because of the difficulty to constantly update and change ranks like that with each event. However I do think it would be cool if someone could be in charge of that. (Minirank system probably easier to implement tho...)

More publicity from the members and better ideas to engage people across the forums. Takes effort and time, from all CDT members, not name sake ones.

Fun ranks were a joke in the UE system.

People only made an effort to get the rank and it was a flawed system.

Bond holders would fall under he same category. We only have miniranks and it works just fine. Although we do have the user center redirecting to our threads I don't see any need to give the CDT fun ranks.

We can still do that, just prefer to do it sparingly. Maybe in an event this year or the final tournament =]

    1) Ranks are apparently being worked on and are towards the top of the CDT to-do list (behind getting new members). They'll probably be miniranks though.
    2) I got the sticky in Sythe.org News created for this reason. Also we try to bump our threads often in comm gen/wherever else they are and post in the spam forum letting people know what's going on. What else did you have in mind? I feel like the banner is overkill since there aren't THAT many events (making this no longer be the case would be great - working on it...)

    3) Crowdsourcing is my #1 complaint about the way CDT functions now - it's being worked on as well. What, for example, were you envisioning?

I know we have a sticky in Sythe.org News but not many people visit that section it seems. Perhaps we could have a weekly newsletter that gets pm'd to members say Sunday that lets them know what's going on. Transparency is a big deal with black market sites. So maybe in the newsletter we include a weekly scam advisory (just inform users who may be new and haven't read stickies), a notable banned user section (some people want to know who went where, plus would add action to the where did they go thread...), Upcoming events section with links, etc.

I know personally I'd rather have the news and what's happening on the site come to me so I do not have to scan for days for it all. Plus, if I was informed about the events rather than relying on actively seeking events, I'd be more likely to participate.

I've got too many ideas that I could post up, rather not double post on thread lol so might just make one long ass reply and call it a day

Expand small prizes beyond rs3 gp and a minirank. Incorporate different markets, like Cs:go, graphics, and LoL, plenty of members there that could be reached out too. Ask community leaders to display the event in popular threads and/or sigs.

Incentives need some upping, and it needs to be talked about from the dev team. People should see why they should participate.

Here are some of the ideas I talked about:

1: My previous post about revamping the sythe.org lottery

2: Previous post about CDT member rank to increase intrigue about what CDT is:
[IMG] (I know I got the font wrong but it is a fitting representation of what CDT does)

    3: Sythe.org PM'd newsletter as previously suggested

4: Possibly include a charity of the month which users can vote for each month. We could take a collection of RSGP and other non-refundables (like RS does in game on charity events) and sell it at charity auction. Maybe the price of the sold gold would end up going for $0.55/m or however high it gets. But we donate the proceeds to the user voted charity on behalf of the Sythe.org community. Just a small way we could possibly bring some good out of the website.

5: Upcoming Syther of the Month maybe? Different from a member of the month, because we focus solely on newer members who are earning a very notable reputation over the month. This could be voted on by CDT members and a 1 month long mini-rank could be given to the winner. So that others know that they care about being involved and legitimate.

6: Sythe.org Talent show? I recently started a thread where I asked people about their hidden talents (http://www.sythe.org/general-discussion/1809971-hidden-talents-sythe-org.html), it's actually taken off fairly well within the community. I was thinking we could do a quarterly talent show where the top 3 winners will receive a mini-rank until the following show. Essentially the users will do something as a "talent" such as make a sculpture, painting, cook and display an amazing meal, etc. They hold a sign with their username on the photo for entry. Put them to a vote among the community and see who wins. I'd personally like to know more about the people on the website so that we eventually can become a family of sorts instead of a group of random buyers and sellers who intermingle lol

That's all I've got for now if I think of anything else I'll let someone in CDT know about it I'm sure.

We only had 1 event this past month, and the thread got 800 views. Better than nothing imo. And personally, I like your idea of a weekly newsletter. The only problem is that that sort of thing is hard af to coordinate. No single person is going to write it, and relying on 3+ people will nearly always result in people being late with xyz, so things quickly deteriorate. But still, I think it's a good idea. Maybe we can just link several threads in the newsletter instead of writing a custom thing each week? Hm. Maybe post a feedback thread and see what other people think.

It's sometimes tough to come up with prizes. Most of our funding comes from rs-related sites/folk, so that's why certain prizes are the way they are. In terms of other markets, what were you thinking? Post threads there? Or host events related to those markets? Either is fine by me... I would prefer it if there were a "things you should click on" section of the forum where all this interesting CDT stuff/events/competitions/news/whatevers could go so we can all go there instead of making things forum-specific. But feel free to elaborate if I didn't quite understand. And what are you looking to get out of the dev team?

    @ Oculus's above post:
1 - I think this died out because of the way it was set up. I'd be down for reorganizing it and trying it again.
2 - Personally I prefer the fun rank over the mini rank, but you'll have to take that up with someone like Roary. I think that was my first suggestion when I joined CDT lol.
    3 - See above.
4 - Crowdsourced charitable giving is tricky for a variety of reasons. I have about a year of experience consulting for a huge charity rating org, so I can attest to this personally. Probably not the best way to go.
5 - This was part of MotM (member of the month), and I think the "noob of the month" or whatever was also one of my early ideas about getting more people involved. I think there was no winter MotM because it's very similar to the annual sythe awards. So I think it should be back around the end of this month? I know there was previous backlash against the idea because the same people were voting over and over again, but hopefully we can move beyond that.
6 - Sure, why not. Fyi you can host this sort of thing without being in CDT (see Bogla's thing in the spam forum for example), but a community-sponsored thing might be okay too.
