Circumcisions, Your thoughts?

How about an adult wanting to be circumcised? Does anything change; is it then ok?

 

Sure. They have to deal with the consequences of their own actions and they can, unlike a child who had it forced upon them.

 

Alright, so, mutilation is not the main problem. The main problem would be consent.

Would you desex a dog? Would you vaccinate a child? If the answer is yes, then what other reasons do you have aside from consent?

 

I think a long time ago that circumcision was performed because otherwise, you were running a health risk. That excuse just doesn't fly these days anymore though. We live in a society where it is becoming increasingly evident that circumcision is cruel & unnecessary, and many children do not want to be unnecessarily mutilated at birth. That is a part of your body that you will never get back, and yes there are many risks.

Check out this famous case of a guy named 'David Reimer'. He lost his penis during a horrible circumcision accident, and so his parents decided to raise him as a girl and sexually reassign his gender. As you can imagine, he lived a pretty terrible life and committed suicide during his adult life. As long as parents educate their children about how to properly clean themselves when they are no circumcised, then I don't see why it should EVER pose a health risk, or a problem at all. The only circumstance that would beg to differ is if somebody suffers from "phimosis", which is an unnatural tightness of the foreskin. Often this can be reduced over time with exercises until the foreskin pulls back freely and effortlessly, but other times a circumcision is necessary. I actually have a friend who had phimosis in highschool, and was circumsised just a few years ago at 17 or 18 years old. For him, it was very necessary as it was a health risk and he was embarrased and ashamed of his penis before the procedure was performed.

 

I was circumcised as a baby and have never had any regrets (I am glad it was done). But I don't really agree with not having the choice. I guess a parent knows best.

 

It's done at birth, because it's easier to do it at a young age. It becomes more dangerous when the subject gets older.

 

Vaccines have a purpose; circumcision does not in the modern world.

It is dangerous as an infant as well and it serves no purpose. Why put extra risk on a baby when you don't have to?

 

I'll assume your answer to be yes. So, consent is not the be all end all, and mutilating is not the be all end all. What is this purpose in simpler terms?

There's just one thing I've always heard about and wandered about. I've heard being uncircumcised causes some males to develop some types of psychotics. Like make them crazy. Anyone have any knowledge of this?

 

That lie was developed to scare parents into doing it. That right there should be enough to tell you how fucked up the people were that started this outside of the jewish religion. Oh btw the guy on the first page talking about studies that if your cut lowers your chance for stds. well studies show that The USA has the highest std rate and the highest circumcision rate. england has the lowest std rate with the lowest circumcision rate. studies are fun arnt they . It's a awful thing to do to a baby. How could a parent sit there and watch a baby be mutilated? seriously go google all the child deaths and amputations. There was just recently a man committed suicide because his parents got him circumcised as a baby and his was cut so badly he never recovered.

 

Cutting sensitive body parts from newborns can't be defended. This laceration takes time to heal, all the while trapped in a diaper filled with waste. Bleeding. Infections. Trauma. Hundreds of baby boys die every year in America due to circumcision.

 

I personally wouldn't want it removed. I'm happy with how I am, and have no problems.

If someone else wants to take a scalpel to the penis, then so be it. It's not my place to make comments on such a matter.

 

I think that it's wrong to do it to babies. Why should they have their body mutilated because someone else deems it necessary? If you reach an age where you are responsible and able to make decisions for yourself then you should be given the choice to be circumcised or not, I don't think it's a decision for someone to make for you when you are too young to have a say. Unless there is going to be a significant medical consequence for the child if they are not circumcised their penis's should be left well and truly alone. Personally I'd be really angry if my parents had decided that I should have part of my knob chopped off without my consent. >_<

 

Overall interesting thread guys. I myself am happy I am still intact. It was embarrassing younger, but then again, I was uneducated on the matter.

 

Whats funny is that the reasoning of doing it at such a young age is because when you are old enough to make the decision there is no way in hell youd let someone cut your dick. thats why they do it to babies. Imagine if someone cut a chunk of your dick off. they do it to babies on the regular.

 

Yep it is mutilation like all those things, however this is mutilation, even torture as you are doing it without the childs consent.

a vaccination is hardly a surgical procedure to remove part of a childs genitals, is that really something you can compare it to, let alone a dog ?

Someone should at least post some historical, religious background on the procedure. I do believe this was condemned by the Roman Catholic church at one period. However, I know for a fact it was heavily practiced in Egypt. In my opinion, it's obeying God's orders, I'm circumcised and nothing negative has occurred because of it. Take five minutes to read Genesis 17 thoroughly, it's an excellent read regardless of your standpoint.

Also "Stabbing" a child to prevent them from life threatening illness is hardly comparable to giving them a shiny skinless knob(or killing them who knows which thats what makes it exciting) through the pointless removal of something that 'doesn't matter anyway.

I view self mutilation to be bad in any way and likewise do i view pointless mutilation of ones own child. One day when you are a parent you will understand... If you still want to slice you kids dick then i feel for you.
