Can an admin explain reasoning behind 500 private messages?

well if it is, all the more reason to give us more space.

Sorry for the grave-dig but I believe that this is still relevant. Was going to make this suggestion again myself but Grave seems to have already made it.

 

Multiple suggestions for increased PM space have been made here.

 

Not sure why inbox space has to do anything with longevity. If Grave's calculations are anywhere near correct it should be reasonable have a much larger inbox space.

 

It's time an admin answer this long-posed question.
If they actually take up such little space, I see no reason why everyone's cap shouldnt be raised...

 

Because that's what its been at for a long time and they all hate change.

 

There really is no real reason to keep it at 500. Then again, there's no real reason not to. It's easy enough just to download all your messages as a text, XML or CSV file if you're that concerned about archiving them.

That said, if you download an archive of your PMs, it'd be crazy easy to edit the contents and there'd be no proof if you needed it.

 

Exactly the issue, once you delete a private message it can no longer be used as proof even if you download the xml file. For people that are getting 50+ PM's a week your inbox can fill up pretty quickly and if a trade goes bad from a couple weeks ago you're shit out of luck.

Also it is obviously a highly requested change, so the way I see it if there isn't a reason not to, and lots of people want it - then why don't we have it already?

 

I mean, I suppose there isn't really much reason why not. But honestly I don't even use 500 at a time normally lol. If it's life or death an admin can search it up after it's deleted.

 

It's a matter of changing some numerical values in admincp for some usergroups... that would take 5 minutes at most.

 

I've seen multiple suggestion threads on this topic with various amounts of support. I think the fact that it keeps being brought up says something.

1) If deleted private messages are still being stored why can't we just have access to them -.-

2) As laptop said all that it would take is 5 minutes in the admincp to edit the allotted PM space that we have. Although you may not see a reason for it, the fact that its been suggested so often speaks for itself. Its something that people want.
