Buying and Selling - Post Count - Suggestion

There's still people that care about post count?

 

No support, lets say for example a guy, who is here to purely sell and not to discuss (as we are now), has 2,000 posts and has been an active seller since 2007, it shows dedication to the forums as they have been active. This will help with trades as he posts regularly and has been a part of the market system for a long time and hasn't scammed. Therefore should be more respected.

but I wouldn't mind if i didnt get post counts for a simple "Bump." I dont want it, I just get it.

The problem with this theory is that it falls back on people relying on PC to determine credibility, which is what the community does NOT need to do. Credibility is NOT based on PC, so this outlook does not work. Trust is built off of good trades and credible vouches/support, not PC.

I am not going to trust some guy more that has 2000 when the majority of his posts are "bump".... I would look at his vouches and his successful trades. In other words I would trust a guy a LOT more if he only had 250 posts but had 50-60 vouches for good trades. Also, if I were ever hesistant I would still use an OMM. This shouldn't even be an argument, there is NO reason why any user couldn't just "bump" a thread with a click, even if this is on the "DNS" list. the sticky says dont suggest unless you have a valid argument. I feel that I do.

Look at all the Marketeers, the majority of them have 1k posts plus! Why? Because they "bump" their threads 3 times a day. Imagine if you will, a user can bloat their post count 21 times a week (3 bumps a day for 7 days a week), multiplied by 52 weeks, and that equals 1092 POSTS for one year of bumping ONE THREAD.

Now take that figure and multiply it by how ever many threads they have selling things (GP, Items, Names, LoL Things, Xbox, IRL Items) and this is why all marketeers have a hyper-inflated post count. So the new users wont even LOOK at the average joe selling his stuff, because they go on User X's thread and first thing he sees is the guy has 2543 posts and a fancy thread. That user need not look anywhere else. Even if User X's thread is selling a similar thing for MORE money. That new user is more inclined to trust a guy with a high post count because of this.

The suggesttion is to eliminate the need for posting "bump" and instead clicking bump and bam, THE SAME THING HAPPENS!! (the main thing that invalidates all of you guys' arguments). Hell, it even saves you the time of actuallly typing it out, and also on an Administrative side of things, its less POSTS for the database to store. It is beneficial either way you slice it

 

The problem with this entire suggestion is that you've built an assumption on the basis that post count is a major factor of trust. Of course it plays a small roll, as does join date. But those two determining factors hardly make impact on a users final decision to trade anyways. I don't see any point to eliminate the need for bumping (in the form of a post), mostly because if you view a sales thread that has 500+ posts (which may be all bumps) it is clear that the user who runs the shop has put the effort and motivation into bumping his thread on a regular basis. If you add a "bump button" you're removing that stamp of effort which shows how much consistent work was put into bumping the thread every 8 hours. For example, my names shop has nearly 600 posts. Without even visiting my shop it's clear that I'm a dedicated salesman that puts an effort into keeping my shop more visible than others. While my point may be contradictory here, it is not. "Bump" post count servers a functional purpose in the area of credibility and dedication of THREADS rather than the trust and responsibility of USERS.

Just like Cas said, when you get into the nitty gritty of post elimination and making certain sections not count, it gets way to complicated and this doesn't serve a functional purpose or fix whatsoever.

The only issue is you didnt read the link I provided.... The bump addon lets anyone see how MANY TIMES you have bumped the thread. Essentially doing what it is that you want other users to see. They could see how many bumps you have done, just like they could see how many "bump" posts you have posted. Yet again the addon does exactly what you guys ALL want from the market place, but WITHOUT altering the post counnts

 

Still seems like the most unnecessary thing I could even imagine. Things work great as they are with regards to all of this.

 

This just shows I did prove my point. Whether you think it is useless doesnt mean that it is in fact useless. it is the SAME THING, albeit without hyper-inflating PC.

People arguing it creates a sense of trust, or something similar; trust is subjective. Also, we aren't going to create bias by intervening in the market and making it so that market orientated users loose out.

 

WHat are they losing out on? I dont get it?

 

Sephiroth878,the gold buyers/sellers make Sythe more active and everyone knows that. By doing posts site is more active to the new members and it not looks like dead market.
I do believe no one care about his post count,but when it helps to the market with activity,i believe a bump system won't replace that.
Since this is "Post Count - Suggestion" and posts going off topic to "Bump system", i suggest you to open new thread about that "Bump System" you need.
But i believe there is no reason to lower the site activity with less posts.

 

4 posts a day per thread.. anyone can get that elsewhere in a fraction of the time without waiting 8 hours. It wouldn't solve any problems; people will just get it elsewhere.

 

There are so many add-ons for a "bump button" in vb. all you need to do is click the button to bring it to the top. No post needed.

 

It's practical, but from a site growing perspective, it's not good. This won't happen.

 

Definitely no support, it'll give lots of users unfair advantage and tons of people will post as idiotic things as possible to get their postcount up

 

Gotta agree with this guy. Posts are important for activity.

 

Mods you can go ahead and deny this/close it/burn it to the ground lol. Farcast and SuF make very valid points, and I guess if it aint broke, dont fix it lol. Thanks for enlightening me though nonetheless guys.
