Yup. He's actually working for Jagex.
Yup. He's shutting down servers.
Yup. He's really going to take legal action on some servers.

My server is not being shut down, not until I decide I want to, because there are loopholes.


This is a warning to anyone not wanting to get into legal shit, if you got a notice, I advise strongly you shut yourself down, especially if your webhost got the notice, unless you know ways around the problem, like I found.

Pass this on to any server owners you know.. This is serious, and until this asshole stops, you best stop your servers, unless you don't care about the chance of a lawsuit.

I've seen a lot of rumors and commotion about Jagex beginning to take more action regarding Private Servers....

*sigh...* First they ruin botting and now RS Private Servers ?

This has been happening a lot with servers I always played Best suggestion, stay away from 508+ Servers. They're targeting them more and more now due to their updates every week ha. You Jew, any idea why servers such as Dodian.com and RougeX aren't shutting down? They have a massive amount of people and they do charge membership fees.

 

Both of those are a matter of time. I think RougeX is gone already, Dodian got the notice a week ago from what I hear.

The servers that were targeted this time around were high standing 317/377/474s. so 508s aren't the only issue.

Well, here's my input on the subject:

Before the last time CheatScene went down (lol) Jagex sent me a letter. Yes, a physical letter, and it cost them around 6 British Pounds to send me for some reason according to the stamp. They said they were going to take legal action against me for copyright infringement, making available RuneScape botting programs which hurt their profits, promoting and assisting with the cracking of RS accounts (which I didn't, lol) and things of that nature.

I told them to shove their letter up their asses and if they contacted me again I would consider it harassment.

I didn't hear anything back from them and they never sued me.

Jagex's legal threats are usually weak. Has anyone EVER heard of them actually taking somebody to court? No, and I don't think they will. Hopefully this is all scare tactics.

NickV: Assuming they're actually planning on taking legal action against private server owners who don't regard the DMCA notifications, you're fucked. There are no loopholes when you're using Jagex code and 3D models and 2D graphics. It's their intellectual property.

 

Adding onto what Repentless said, unless you don't have runescape items and don't use their names (which would then not be a rs private server) then it is copyrighting their images.

 

You're still using a modified version of their client code, and the code is their property as well. Even if you change all of the 3d models and items and characters and quests, you're still screwed if you're using their client. And even if you did that, it wouldn't be a RuneScape private server anymore, and you'd be better off writing your own game from scratch or getting a RealmCrafter license.
