[Approved] Archive Something For All

THERE ARE STRICT RULES IN THIS SECTION - Read before posting to avoid a forum ban!

SFA has really gone to hell over the years, and we could probably warn for 90% of the posts that have been made there in the past year. Back in the day, we had intended for it to be for neckbeards intellectual discussion only, but clearly people don't have much of an appetite for that.

I think we should rename SFA "Serious Discussion" (akin to the reddit "serious" tag), remove the sticky linked above, and rewrite the other sticky to align better with serious discussion (no spam posts, no "I agrees," etc.)

 

So.. Maybe even something along the lines of a "debate" section? I think that would be cool. "Something for all" to me is like somewhere I'd go to post a cooking recipe, find random photos of dogs or whatever, and find life hacks.

 

I agree, a section where you put in thought to your response and have brain cells would be appropriate for our forums. I think an important thing to add would be allow criticism or contradictory statements.

 

It doesn't look like this forum is really interested in serious discussion. The section you described (SFA) looks very dead with one or two posts every few days. Why not merge general discussion and SFA and have a serious tag under the new general discussion for people who want to debate?

Renaming it to "serious discussion" doesn't really do anything. You're just putting a new mask on an already dead section. Makes the forum look bad like you said and I'm not really sure what you're hoping to accomplish with this suggestion because renaming it won't do anything.

 

Perhaps moving it more towards the top of the website itself would attract more participants. I feel like some people are to quick to actually read descriptions which is why you see individuals posting scam reports, sales, and other topics in wrong sections.

Moving may not be the best option but perhaps a whole rework on how to look at the site. But that’s a lengthy process.

 

Tbh I kind of prefer @brad545's approach. Maybe the best option is removal.

 

I think that merging general discussion with SFA and having a serious tag under the new general discussion is the way to go.

This way you would have more activity as well as serious debates for the people who want that!

We're archiving SFA because it has gone to hell. We moved a couple video-select (TM) threads to general discussion. What a time to be alive.
