American Police State

Nope, never been exposed to tear gas. The cops were blocking the way while the group was exposed to the tear gas. They moved after.

 

The police have the right to fight back if the students throw something at them. The police are using self defense and trying to keep other people safe from the things being thrown. If anyone gets close to the police and saying or about to attack them they have the right to self defense and take their actions.

 

This happened, and still they didn't take the hint. In my opinion, they shouldn't be there in the first place, and even after being gassed they didn't go inside.

 

They're on an outside staircase, at the side of the street. Not in their residence halls.

 

Ok, so after they've been standing there long enough for the police to take an alternate route, the police show up and gas them and go away. That is not police brutality, that's a hint. None of them were hurt in any way, they just went into martyr-mode. Tear gas is nothing to cry about (well, it's hard not to, but nothing to whine about).

And I'm still waiting for the back story of this whole event. I'm sure the riot police and military didn't just start marching in the street because they had nothing better to do.

 

Basically, yes. There is a riot, with riot police and window breaking and whatnot. They are hellbent on standing outside while this is going on and, unlucky for them, it gets more real than they wanted it to.

Don't get me wrong, I would be standing on the staircase in their situation as well. But I wouldn't act like a civil rights martyr afterward.

Governmental injustice? There is a riot, and the police step in to contain the situation.

The rioters have it easy. Anyone with a black suit and a helmet is fair game, and if they can hit one with a brick, they think they've hurt the gov'ment. While in reality, Bob Cop is doing his job that is calming down the situation. He is there to stop the vandalizing and violence going on, and all he has to show for it is bumps in his helmet.

It is so easy to see the police as a collective bad guy, but as soon as these "observers" get caught up in it because they are standing too close and rioters don't wear uniforms that distinguish them from other civilians, they get all whiny about it. Like the ass wipe at 4:40 in the video.

 

I'm still puzzled by how this guy thinks tear gas "isn't that bad"

if it isn't "that bad" it wouldn't be effective in dispersing large crowds of people you fucking idiot

Police's job, is to contain, and contain only. Not to hit back once struck.
