Actually, yes. Once officers have evidence that their or the life of others are endangered they have the authority to use as much force as necessary to contain the subject. The 90's PCP was fairly new to the community and was abused by African-Americans.

The crime rate of black's nearly doubled with the use of PCP. 90% of convicted felons, african-american where under the influence of PCP. Subjecting themselves to the danger of the drug that gave people "godlike" ability's.

People could tolerate exceeding amounts of pain, more then an average person could take if he wasn't experiencing the conditions of the drug.

They had no proof Rodney was not taking PCP at the time. His actions showed otherwise and gave them more evidence that he was then wasn't.

Police are simply citizens who are more equipped to fight crime than others. Do not regard them as anything more, because they are not. They have absolutely no judicial or executive power, either. "Rodney King was a criminal, high on PCP. Anyone who has never dealt with a person on PCP would have a hard time understanding why six officers could not control this person. 15 years ago I worked in a county jail when a prisoner was brought in high on PCP. He was placed in a solitary cell for his own protection. He attempted to hang himself and required officers (approximately 8) to reenter his cell. The PCP gave him unbelievable strength and he felt no pain. Three officers were sent to the hospital. Understand that this was a controlled setting, Rodney King was in the general public and would have been even harder to manage. The reason these officers were found not guilty is because if you watch the video, the officers only struck Rodney King in pressure point strike zones in an attempt to get him to comply. He did not comply to officer commands and was repeatedly struck in an attempt to gain compliance and to insure officer safety. This was in accordance to police training. NOTE: They did use a Taser, but it was a first generation type that only worked on the pain compliance theory. With the PCP, Rodney King did not feel pain and therefore, pulled out the probes and beckoned the officers for more. Of course you didn't see this portion of the tape. The news media only showed a small section of the video tape and sensationalized this event for their own purposes.

Speed of chase, mind-state, or previous actions never condone a beating to subdue. A simple tase, or an easy take down, while 2 people hold him down, they could have just cuffed him. But cops came running at him OUT OF THE CAR to go and beat him.
