    Spelling and Grammar

I am completely fine with people doing it, but I refuse to dumb myself down like that just because I'm on a computer. I freak out just from having a typo, let alone making all of my words completely not understandable by using one letter to represent a word, or in some cases, a few letters to make out a sentence. What is grammar anymore? Only 10% of people on computers even have the decency to put slight capitolization on people's names, let alone how many are understandable.

I use different grammar based on where I am in the internet and who I am talking to. On a game, I'm not going to use perfect punctuation and spelling, nor am I on, say, certain parts of this site, but in the SFA and places like that I tend to spell better on more serious topics when being understood is important..

It gets quite annoying. Especially when I'm in a trade, and people pull that shit off " u , r " I just don't trust them simply because I think they're kids.

I hate when people are so fucking retarded they think that using shit like "u" and other single letters makes them cool. It doesn't. I actually find it much harder to force myself to type sentences that barely make any sense. 4 exampel if i tryd 2 type lik dis id look rly dum rite? But if I actually typed like this, I'd look a lot more like I have a brain, and the post in general would look a lot nicer. People that type like they are absolute retards and think it's cool absolutely fail to realise that for one, they look fucking stupid, and for point number two, it's actually harder to type like that. If I read a book and it's written in plain English with proper grammar, I'd enjoy it. If I read a forum post written in retard, I want to punch the guy in the face.

    /thread

When one puts "can't", your mind gets the point of "meh, he can't". When it's lengthened to "I CAN NOT", you get a lot more of an impression on the "CAN NOT" and it's a much stronger image.

    If you're a Brit or a Canuck, it's capitalisation.

I don't really care about people forgetting apostrophes, or a mispelling here and there, but once it starts getting to the point where people are exchanging numbers for letters Ex: i h8 u, it becomes incredibly annoying. Also, in places like the black market, it also annoys me sometimes to see leechers trying to use perfect grammar, and sound like they're all prestigious and such, but you can always tell they're a leecher when their titles has capitals at the beginning of every word. Currently, the ones who use text-speak abbreviations are primarily of the younger generation, since they're the ones using instant messengers and text messages. When I see people using poor grammar and 1337speak, I therefore make an assumption about their age and character - much like I do with PEOPLE WHO THINK IT HELPS TO TYPE LIKE THIS.

To me, it says they are immature, and do not care to be perceived as an adult.

    ^ Amen.

It's rather annoying in my opinion. For some odd reason it makes me feel like I'm talking to a child whose comeback is "0mg ur m0th3r!".

I'm not a grammar Nazi, but I try and type normal.

I type with correct grammar most of the time, (or at least as close as I can get). The things that bother me are the words people shorten, but the shortened version is 1 letter off, or doesn't make sense. IE: "plox" instead of "please". How would someone get "plox" out of "please"? A lot of the time I use abbreviations for things like "wtf" and such.

This has to be the worst place to be if you don't like poor grammar (this board is based on Runescape.. COME ON!) personally I hate it... but I can deal with it. It's just hard to take anyone seriously when there 'talkin lik dis lol'

    Arghhh!

It's really a pain and all. But i'm sure people just use it because they don't really know how to spell the actual word and are afraid of looking stupid.

I study in a chinese school and everyone uses the short words like "u" "dem" "luv" and so on. Half of the time, I don't even understand what they mean. :)
